Cheap and cheerful
LONDON by ENGLISH LAUNDRY. Let's make no qualms about it: it does smell like AVENTUS. Not exact to my nose, but the inspiration is clear to say the least. But considering CREED's masterpiece is a shell of it's former self (and performs horribly)... why not dabble in a clone now and then if your interested or intrigued by the hype?

You can't do much better than this! The price is RIGHT and it smells excellent. The performance isn't great, but it does best the current state of AVENTUS. Taking the price into account, LONDON is a no-brainer.

You'll get a lot out of this frag when it comes to daily use, especially if you aren't against reapplying on occasion. You'd have to do the same with AVENTUS anyway!

For my money, the sale goes to ENGLISH LAUNDRY this round, and against hype.

A Simplistic Underperformer
After more then 25 years, AZZARO finally gave their timeless classic CHROME the eau de parfum treatment in 2022. When I caught wind of this release, I was pretty intrigued: even excited.

CHROME is one of the foundations of my fragrance journey. It was a popular perennial gifting item, stocking stuffer, and party favor for me back then. I was lucky enough to hoard more than a few bottles. The DNA was super clean, super fresh, and perfect for a late teen. I was hooked.

Since then, the AZZARO name has been synonymous with my fragrance collection and day-to-day scent profile. AZZARO POUR HOMME had long been my signature night-time scent. AZZARO WANTED was an instant go-too, and quickly got replaced by it's masterful flankers (BY NIGHT, THE MOST WANTED, MOST WANTED PARFUM). Needless to say, I'm a fan of this house. Many vital, irreplaceable memories are tied to AZZARO.

All that aside, CHROME EDP is a total misfire, and a blemish on the Azzaro name. The scent itself is solid, if underwhelming. The metallicy-fresh Showergel essense of CHROME is present; but it's less refined and even more synthetic than the original. For an EDP, it's immediately evident that this version is less strong and far less memorable than it's EDT lineage.

That's not just less strong as in smell. The potency of this juice is downright disappointing. Very little sillage out the atomizer. Close to no projection. As a skin scent, this is also a total letdown. On skin, 2 hours after application, there is close to no semblance of what I had sprayed. That's not acceptable. Even worse, I payed retail for this! Curiosity did indeed kill the cat.

With barely acceptable performance, and a scent that's simplistic to put it mildly, there is NO REASON to own AZZARO CHROME EDP.

If you want a better experience along with potentially nostalgic memories, just buy yourself a bottle of the original.

Blast From the Past
PHAT FARM ATMAN. Where to begin with this highly nostalgic relic? Well, back in the mid-2000s, this thing was EVERYWHERE; and since my everywhere at that time was High School, yes. It was all over that wretched place. Being that this was the time of Davidoff Coolwater, Versace Blue Jeans, and Abercrombie and Fitch Fierce (on the guys' side. Girls were most definitely drenched in Juicy Couture) , ATMAN stuck out like a sore thumb.

It wasn't fresh, aquatic, and playful. It was harsh, musky, leathery, and thankfully a bit citrusy. But most certainly adult. The "Axe" users would overspray this to the point of suffocation. Sure they did this with many other staples, but PHAT FARM ATMAN just wasn't that pleasant to begin with. It wasn't horrible, and I could see it fitting right in to my Grampa's wardrobe... but in first period English???

Boys in the mid 2000s were a strange breed. Between the socks-tucked baggy jeans and the lopsided flat-brim caps: they really managed to carve a historical niche for themselves.

PHAT FARM ATMAN merely added to their legacy.

How did THIS squeak passed quality control?
SUBTIL POUR HOMME... subtle. Almost like the name was an inside joke during the production of this EMBARRASSING cash-grab of a fragrance. I have NEVER crossed paths with a cologne this lackluster in it's performance. NEVER.

The scent itself is a solid one. A nice, fresh, gingery medley with a hit of sweet citrus. A flowery undercurrent is noticeable and indeed welcome... but that's it!

Once worn, you will be shocked to discover that in a half hours (yes. 30 minutes. Not a gross-exaggeration), the scent has all but vanished. Totally undetectable, my guess would be even to the dogs! No sillage. No faint whiff. Not even a scent on the skin. Nose to wrist; THERE IS NOTHING THERE.

What a total shame, because the smell itself is very pleasant. This could have made for a solid freshie indeed.

As is, SUBTIL PUOR HOMME is the most useless fragrance I have ever tried on personally. It wouldn't really be worth reviewing if not for the fact that there are still bottles in the wild, despite House Ferragamo seemingly discontinuing it justifiably.

Avoid at all costs.

With the Crustaceans...
That right there is what Dolce and Gabbana could have coined in the process of trying to name their blue marvel, LIGHT BLUE INTENSE (Pour Homme). A superb, SUPERB all-time Blue Fragrance that evokes all the colorful, sun-soaked whimsy of your last beachside holiday.

This is coming from someone who isn't that fond of blue scents. I find their over-reliance on citrus and under-reliance on performance too be par for the course and extremely frustrating. There are exceptions. BLUE DE CHANEL PARFUM is incredibly versatile, a little darker, and suited to all occasions; and performs extremely well. On the cheap side we have Nautica Voyage: an addicting, clean, fresh out of the pool experience that will never grow old.

Right in the middle we have D&G LIGHT BLUE INTENSE. It's not dark like BDC, nor as expensive, and compared to NAUTICA it's more authentically "Beach-side" then VOYAGE is. We do get the obligatory citrus, but it hits you creamily at the top, and quickly makes way to LIGHT BLUE INTENSE's show stopping marine notes. Though inherently they won't be to everyone's tastes (all you spicy/amber fans out there), these notes capture the oceanic breeze, the salty waves, and the crisp clarity of being at the beach (sand mites LUCKILY not included). It literally took my breath away on first wear.

I have since placed LIGHT BLUE INTENSE permenantly into my Spring/Summer rotation. Unlike many of it's blue counterparts, INTENSE has a surprisingly robust performance, and will be complimented for hours at the distance of a couple meters. Impressive.

Take a dip with the Crustaceans. Try out LIGHT BLUE INTESE when it warms up.
