Black tea shot
It seems Olfactive Studio works with the big names of the industry; Duchaufour, Ropion, Lorson, Fontaine. Yet, somehow this brand never really appealed to me and I kind of ignored it so far. But when I read they called in Corticchiato for this job, I realized it is time to get acquainted. Smoky Soul is the first perfume I tested, so I do not know if it represents the house style. At the same time I do not recognize anything typically Corticchiato in this either.

Smoky Soul comes across as a focus on black tea. Several components are brought together: Smoky woods, spicy black pepper, dusty patchouli. The clarity of each of these notes is impressive. At the same time they are fit tightly into a frame that represents the smoky Lapsang accord. Dark and smoky, but not too dense. Especially in the first minutes the smoky-dusty-woody feel is highly reminiscent. There is a lovely radiance that -for a change- does not come from bergamot but from osmanthus.

There is little to no development. The smoky and dusty parts wear off, but nothing new emerges to replace that. In fact every note wears off pretty fast. It feels like a lot of effort went into getting that initial shot of smoked tea right and much less in the development over time. Not that the drydown is a generic base musk or anything, nothing like that. It still scores high in clarity and radiance, but that is to be expected with a fragrance high on osmanthus and vetiver. I had hoped for a bit more perfumey composition and drama. Oh well.

Masterpiece
One of the most beautiful perfume ever. The first time I tried it in beautiful Barcelona, I fell in love. I immediately bought a 200ml bottle.
Coromandel is very sophisticated, unique and classy. The epitome of French perfumery.
The opening is amazing, white chocolate, aldehydes, patchouli, beautiful.
The base is dominated by amber, patchouli, vanilla and woody notes.
I know this perfume is classified as patchouli and I understand that, but Coromandel is the most beautiful amber for me.
Performance is outstanding. Coromandel has strong projection and longevity.
Every time I wear this fragrance I get a compliment.

On the buses
Growing up in the 80s (I also have faint memories of the late 70s) I remember that you could smoke everywhere in most public places. back of planes, back of the train and to the left of cinemas, restaurants and some pubs ( I have no idea why), and on the top deck of buses. (In the UK not just London has double decker buses. One of my earliest memories is playing with the cigarette butts on the floor of the bus.

Also there was a little metal thing on the back of the seats which was used to extinguish your cigarettes.

On the bus memory thing when I was a kid; my mother and I were going into town for some shit and I was promised an iced bun (right I really need to ask who was the genius baker who put icing sugar on a hot dog bun and sold them as a treat, as that’s all they are!). Anyway I remember the bus we used to get would sometimes pull into the bus depot near where I lived and the drivers would change over ; sometimes quickly but most of the time they would waddle off into their 'lounge' cigarette hanging out their mouth, money drawer and thermos in hand and a copy of the Sun tucked forcefully into the crook of the armpit. This day the bus we were on broke down, so we were told we had to change buses, we didn’t have a bus waiting for us and we didn’t have a driver so we had to wait inside the drivers lounge (which they ,the drivers, were not fucking happy about - which they let us know about). An old coach was found to take us, it was older than Croesus, the ghosts of many sixties day trips and backsides haunted the air in the coach. I remember the horrible dusty, cigarette smoke marinated fabric.

This fragrance smells like that coach. The tang of the worn metal the stained steel and ash. This has that fusty musk of the well worn butt soaked fabric. The image of a Tyrannosaurus Rex? Hmmmmeh that feared predator of the Maastrichtian age? The star of so many Jurassic Park movies?

No I don’t get that from this, I do get is Bradley P. Richfield. Don’t know who that is, well for me that’s the personification of this scent, this is who would wear this scent. Not ‘Alpha Male’ but hunched over pot-bellied bully. The weird thing is I can get some appeal in this I can understand how you could wear it.; I honestly am impressed with the concept of this fragrance. but it’s a lot to ‘dig through’ and excavate for a fragrant concept and idea to be appealing. As a work of art this works, as a fragrance kinda. It’s like a pair of leather trousers; great in concept and worn brilliantly by imaginary characters on screen. In real life? No.

Incidentally the driver of that coach, the one they couldn’t find, was sat in that lounge smoking, drinking and loudly talking to the other drivers for 15mins until he stood up hoisted his trousers up over his belly and then said “O’rite who’s waiting to go ta TAHN!!! This way then!”
He looked like Bradley P. Richfield.

The mysteries of Peking
As time goes by, I consider Journey to be in their top five. Opening with bright red sweet pepper that reminded me of Chinese restaurant (Sichuan duck ) and strong boozy aromas of gin with nuances of lemon. Gradually and magically the freshy/spicy opening turns into a tobacco/leather scent that reminded me of Dark Rebel Rider heart notes. At the same time, there are distinct green elements of juniper that rather remind me of pines in the style of the "dense" costa azzurra edp. 'Incensy' dark green/musky finale. All year round scent and comfortably signature worthy

Most artistic and under the radar Amouage?
Amouage Myths Man is the kind of scent that's got a vibe unlike any other, think of it as the soundtrack to a stylish, somber ceremony. With its unique mix of smoky ash and floral accords, it’s like paying tribute with blooms to someone who’s turned to ashes and the only thing that a left is the Myth.
Setting a mood that’s introspective and a bit melancholic. Yet, its not all gloom. There's a beauty in the sorrow, like finding solace in memories or the peace of a final goodbye...
It’s perfect for moments of reflection or when you want to wear something that’s as complex and profound as your thoughts.

P.S Sadly discontinued :(

The Perspective of an American College Student
This fragrance already has many helpful and accurate testimonies of its overall experience and ethos in the fragrance community. Briefly, Jaipur Homme EDP opens citric, floral, and soapy with warm and nutty spices that support and bloom in the drydown. I'll stop there to avoid rehashing what has already been scrupulously described.

Why am I even writing a review? Because there are few to none from people to whom I can easily relate. As the title states, I am an American college student, freshly 22 years old. I am a relative newcomer to this community. I've been sitting on a bottle of this for a couple months now. It was a blind-buy (NOT recommended) that marked the beginning of the end of my rite of passage into the fragrance world. I, like many others discovering this hobby, endeavored to get my nose on as many scents as possible, much to the dismay of my already barren wallet. Thus the cheapies began arriving en masse. If you are in a similar position, you are the target audience of this review: I'd pass on this one.

If you expect a more gourmand-leaning experience with warm spices and vanilla, you will be disappointed. If you expect to smell like the Gen Z social media schema of "old money," you will be disappointed. If you expect even just a sweet, floral oriental, you may still be disappointed.

This may be obvious to the more initiated, but Jaipur Homme is truly an "older" scent. To my young nose, this scent is associated with old money. I hesitate to say "old money" because among my generation this title has become a bit of a buzzword and faddish aesthetic, à la social capital. By old money I mean mature (bordering on elderly), refined, gala-like pomp and opulence. The descriptions of this smelling like a bar of hand soap you would find at a luxury hotel are oddly accurate. I imagine this is because luxury hotels amended their soaps to better match the popular fragrance DNAs of the aging population, but I digress.

I don't dislike the smell (I gave it a 7 after all). I just can't figure out when I would ever want to wear this in lieu of more modern options. There is a suggestion below that it should be reserved for tuxedo levels of formality. I'm inclined to agree, but again for the younger guy there is no paucity of modern, classy crowd-pleasers. Despite the attractive price-to-performance ratio, I regret my purchase. I suggest a skip on this one, and in general a strategy of saving up for one expensive fragrance rather than impulse-buying multiple cheapies.

I've worn this a handful of times since receiving it in hopes of warming up to the scent. It has yet to happen. Maybe a decade or so will change my mind. For now it will sit on my shelf, and every few days I will give it a sniff and be reminded that if all the highest reviews of a fragrance are from seemingly older folk, my 22-year-old self should give it a second thought.

The scent of a reliable man
This fragrance is and always will be firmly etched into my olfactory memory. My father has been using this fragrance my whole life, and he still renounces any futile naive attempt made by my mother, me or any friend or family to introduce him to a new scent.

Some may say this stubbornness is annoying, but I commend it... For this proves to me two undoubtedly obvious things:

1. This fragrance is as reliable as it can get, it has accompanied my father through the best and the worst of times, through weddings, funerals, long work-days and joy-filled weekends. It has been there, accompanying this man on his journey through life. It has given him the comfort and self esteem when he had to take risks or make tough decisions, but it has also given him the edge to be a fun-loving playful father that he is to me.

2. This is how a man that embodies everything my father is to me smells like, and I would not wish my dad to smell any other way than this.

Platinum Egoiste has been the sole fragrance that sparked my interest in perfumery, it is a scent that symbolises everything a reliable, well-put together, well-mannered, elegant, sophisticated and, nonetheless, loving masculine figure is supposed to be like.

I have always had a mental image of myself as that kind of man, because that´s the man my dad is for me and my family. When I spray Platinum Egoiste, I feel like I am that man. I feel sure of my abilities, I feel sure that I can handle everything that comes my way, and I feel like my dad is there to give me advice if that is needed.

Platinum Egoiste, according to my beautiful girlfriend, smells like someone you can trust, the man that will hug you and tell you that everything is going to be ok, and that is exactly the man I want to be.

A Gentlemans Gem
A true classic of its time, when Jean-Claude Ellena created this fragrance, he must have traveled from the past into the future because this fragrance has stood the test of time. Not only is it beautiful, but so is the feeling that comes from wearing this timeless gem. I feel important, I feel grounded, and I know I am making a statement wherever I am. It's not overpowering, but it certainly cannot be ignored. Once you step into the room, you will be noticed. My daughter is now 21 years old, and since I fell in love with this fragrance 17 years ago, to this day, it has a place in my heart. I started wearing this fragrance a long time ago, and there's never been a time when I felt like I had had enough of it, I have lost count of how many bottles I have had. I am a fan of vetiver, patchouli, and pink pepper, which are all of my favorite notes that make up this extremely well-put piece of work. Seasonality is not an issue with this fragrance. I have worn it through all the seasons, and there is hardly a time when I feel like getting tired of it. Some fragrances change over time, but this has surely stood the test of time. It's a dignified gentlemans gem.

Circle of life
One of the most "challenging" from the previous (and best) era of the house, which I finally appreciated after a year and at least 10 testings, as a work of art. The opening is exclusively floral, with iris, reminding me the same iris that was used in black iris combined with piercing acidic chrysanthemum. During its middle phase, it is dominated by dry vetiver (slightly reminiscent of the vetiver of Gucci Guilty Absolute) with rose and rum which have been intergrated (as opposed to vetiver) at a very low intensity. However, in the drydown there is theplot twist, an 180° turn and it essentially becomes a different perfume, as it transforms its floral elements into ash and labdanum with a final base note of leather. That's exactly where you simply shout "Masterpiece!".

Salty Ivy
Green, very intense and fresh, characteristically bitter opening of a very photorealistic mint and ivy. A heart of sea salt and washed woods, but without turning its dna into aquatic or marine, it still has a strong green character that turns from bitter to earhy salty, a very rare combination with such a realistic effect. Base of vetiver, minimal incense and earthy patchouli.
It's not a summer scent, the title could be misleading, it's too intense and heavy for summer, but ideal for spring and autum. Lasts and lasts and lasts forever, never ever leaves clothes until they are washed, which is a great thing after all
