The Golden Beauty
I can't deny that it took me a while to come around to this scent. Back when I was just starting out, I sniffed the edt along with Boucheron's Pour Homme (which immediately gave me Azzaro Pour Homme vibes) and wasn't convinced. It reminded me too much of waxy, rose lipstick. For the over 60 crowd, you know. Years later, when online reviewers began to sing its praises, I revisited the scent and finally understood my original pressumptions. The rosey lipstick association was gone...and replaced with something else...

From the first spray, it's essentially a cosmetic mish-mash of heliotrope, lemon, spices and florals. The vibe is absolutely that of a hand cream my mother used to use in her bathroom. That was the original association. Smells just like it. In a few minutes the citruses move WAY back and the cinnamon, clove and vanilla come through. And that's when I'm in heaven.

You see, for a couple years now, I've been searching for a perfume that smells just like my favourite brand of organic chai tea (which will remain nameless) as it has the absolute perfect balance between vanilla, cinnamon, clove, pepper, cardamom and ginger. For a long time, nothing had really come close; but when I sprayed on Jaipur edp, within a couple minutes I recognized that vanilla-and-spice combo. It wasn't the same as my beloved chai, but it damn near nailed 40% of it, adding a good dollop of flowers, tonka and some crystalline candy sparkle.

And it's that benzoin sparkle that keeps it from entering the aged waxy territory usually created from a combo of florals, vanilla and patchouli. Within about 20 minutes, a bit of the woods come through as the spices remain in harmony with the sweeter notes, but the fragrance never really wears flat. For the entire duration of the scent (which is considerable >>> 10 hours+) you get a decent pop of warm vanilla, with a few notes thrown in here and there. And it's classy stuff. Bit 90s-ish, very elegant and perhaps leaning more feminine than most masculine-targetted fragrances, but it's an absolute gem of a blend. 100% unisex and superb value; nothing short of what I would expect from Menardo.

In all honesty, I'm disappointed I never gave Jaipur edp a fair shot in the past. It's a real winner for the cool weather and a delight to wear with a sweater or turtleneck. Head and shoulders above nearly all designer releases these days, and currently available for an incredible price. I'll be sad to see this one eventually disappear from the market, probably because it doesn't smell like shampoo or bubble gum. But looking past the cheap, plastic cap that fits way too tight on the collar (a common complaint and one I heartedly agree with), it's a fantastic fragrance. Just don't tighten the cap all the way and you're golden. Autumn here we come!

The Perspective of an American College Student
This fragrance already has many helpful and accurate testimonies of its overall experience and ethos in the fragrance community. Briefly, Jaipur Homme EDP opens citric, floral, and soapy with warm and nutty spices that support and bloom in the drydown. I'll stop there to avoid rehashing what has already been scrupulously described.

Why am I even writing a review? Because there are few to none from people to whom I can easily relate. As the title states, I am an American college student, freshly 22 years old. I am a relative newcomer to this community. I've been sitting on a bottle of this for a couple months now. It was a blind-buy (NOT recommended) that marked the beginning of the end of my rite of passage into the fragrance world. I, like many others discovering this hobby, endeavored to get my nose on as many scents as possible, much to the dismay of my already barren wallet. Thus the cheapies began arriving en masse. If you are in a similar position, you are the target audience of this review: I'd pass on this one.

If you expect a more gourmand-leaning experience with warm spices and vanilla, you will be disappointed. If you expect to smell like the Gen Z social media schema of "old money," you will be disappointed. If you expect even just a sweet, floral oriental, you may still be disappointed.

This may be obvious to the more initiated, but Jaipur Homme is truly an "older" scent. To my young nose, this scent is associated with old money. I hesitate to say "old money" because among my generation this title has become a bit of a buzzword and faddish aesthetic, à la social capital. By old money I mean mature (bordering on elderly), refined, gala-like pomp and opulence. The descriptions of this smelling like a bar of hand soap you would find at a luxury hotel are oddly accurate. I imagine this is because luxury hotels amended their soaps to better match the popular fragrance DNAs of the aging population, but I digress.

I don't dislike the smell (I gave it a 7 after all). I just can't figure out when I would ever want to wear this in lieu of more modern options. There is a suggestion below that it should be reserved for tuxedo levels of formality. I'm inclined to agree, but again for the younger guy there is no paucity of modern, classy crowd-pleasers. Despite the attractive price-to-performance ratio, I regret my purchase. I suggest a skip on this one, and in general a strategy of saving up for one expensive fragrance rather than impulse-buying multiple cheapies.

I've worn this a handful of times since receiving it in hopes of warming up to the scent. It has yet to happen. Maybe a decade or so will change my mind. For now it will sit on my shelf, and every few days I will give it a sniff and be reminded that if all the highest reviews of a fragrance are from seemingly older folk, my 22-year-old self should give it a second thought.

Conspicuously Inconspicuous
First off, the scent: it's spicy, it's resinous, and it's a little sweet. This sweet accord is not trying to be conspicuous with any loud, screechy fruity or floral notes. It is a sweetness that's just there and not trying to offend anyone. Or impress anyone, for that matter.

Performance wise, sillage is at arms length and longevity goes way past the eight hour mark with only two sprays.

So, what kind of man would wear this sweet, spicy, resinous fragrance that is not vying for attention? In my opinion, a man who is ostentatiously reserved. A man whose presence is inevitably noticed, but at the same time does not care. This scent is strictly for the man wearing it and not for those around him. If anyone passing by has an opinion of it, who cares.

Curious? Okay, can you maybe go be curious somewhere else? I'm trying to enjoy this scent.

Smooth, Sweet, Spicy Oriental...
This is a very nice fragrance. I have the Eau de Parfum version. Jaipur is the first fragrance that I've tried from this house, and I'm very impressed.

I detect a mixture of cold and warm spices (including cinnamon). I also get a clove like note, which I think is the carnation mixed with a hint of cardamom. The spices here are blended so well with the powder, it's fantastic. You also get the myrrh, the amber, tonka bean and vanilla and it is extraordinary. This reminds me of Habit Rouge (more so the Eau de Parfum, as it has that Guerlain powdery vanilla vibe to it (Jacques Guerlain once said: "there is no good perfume without vanilla"). In that respect, I find Jaipur an exceptional men's fragrance. The quality here shines through. It's an Eau de Parfum for men launched at a time when that concept was very rare. It is probably a more formal perfume and would go well with evening events and events in cooler weather in general. I wear it casually as well as I love the smell so much.

Overall, I think if you are someone who considers themselves a "gentleman", and you appreciate well-made perfumery and fragrances for men, you should check this one out. This one isn't to be missed as the quality for the price (designer level) is very high here. One wouldn't expect anything else from a talented perfumer such as Annick Mennardo the queen of myrrh, resins and balsams. A wonderful oriental composition in almost every sense of the word.

Don't understand the hype
It smells like a little child perfume to me.
So it's good if you are under 14, but if you are over I don't understand it.
It's a good perfume, performs well and price is very attractive but the scent is as we say in French "cul cul la praline".
Definitly not for me.
But I would offer it to a 8 years old child.

The very best oriental scent for men, IMHO! Very rich, sweet floral and delicately spicy and creamy. An ideal scent for the cold season. Sim
