Marvelous
Nowadays his good taste is often called old-fashioned and his good manners are mistaken for poor performance. People rave about the top notes and them being gone too soon. For me, that is where it all starts to come together: The yellow lemon, the cool aromatic-spices and that vanillic note that seems slightly out of place at first. A quick but fascinating transition takes places and leads the whole into a steady state of both warm and fresh elements: A comfortable woody-moss base spiced up with basil and ginger. Intelligent, well-groomed and equally well-mannered, a true gentleman.

A Man for All Seasons...
What to say about this understated masterpiece? A true, grown-up gentleman's fragrance! I suppose there is not much more to add than what has already been said, but put simply, EVERY man should smell like this!

Chanel pour Monsieur was made at a time when men were expected to be self-assured, professional, kind, caring individuals who treat women with respect, seldom raised their voice, always held doors open for people, offered a woman an umbrella in the pouring rain, who remembered to stand up when she entered the room. They were not meant to be ultra-macho or overly assert themselves in the face of others, because a real gentleman was secure in himself and did what he did because he believed in being a good human being.

Created in 1955 by the great Henri Robert (the man behind the famous Chanel no. 19), he was master of the understatement, and understood the value of having simple, high quality ingredients that came together to form a whole picture, making the wearer feel self-assured and good about themselves.

Rather than only having a single, overpowering note, the fragrance itself is extremely well balanced, so it's hard to pick out any individual notes, however the opening is one of a citrus/oakmoss wave that is both invigorating and at the same time extremely calming.

What follows is (in typical Chanel fashion), a slightly bittersweet, almost (to my nose) singiature aldehyde-like hint, to which ginger, cardamom and fresh herbs come through. All before drying down to an amazing vetiver and cedarwood finish, which settles on your skin for the rest of the journey, as well as maintaining the oakmoss vibe throughout.

There is nothing about this fragrance which is loud or in your face. This is in no way a powerhouse, it's very subtle and understated, but always lets you know that it is there (without overpowering those around you). It would be perfect on any formal occasion, along with a crisp shirt, suit, tie, and well-made shoes.

There is also no reason to suggest that the adult men of this day and age should not wear this fragrance either. Because the values that were expected of men in 1955 are still relevant today! I believe that any man wearing this fragrance would also display a high level of maturity and exude self confidence, because he wouldn't need to assert himself upon those around him, instead he could simply relax, be at ease with himself, and do what he has to do in life without over-proving himself to anyone and everyone.

In a word, a TRUE gentleman's fragrance! Perfect for all clean, relaxed, confident men out there!

Classic!
Pour Monseiur is a classic fougere. Heavy on oakmoss and cardamon, it opens with a citric burst and slowly fades to a woody oakmoss base.

Definetely a classic that worth at least a try.

Sillage, lasting power and projection are average.

Extremely suave and exquisite masculine
I've got the new Chanel pour Monsieur EDP 75ml. And it's not easy to convey how it smells in words.
It sits right between the EDT and the Concentrée version, I mean, less citrusy and less sweety/vanilla like. But it does remind me the original, or the most recent version as I bought my EDT last June. However, Pour Monsieur EDP is very smooth and so discrete that it's hard to find someone young wearing it. Although it still doesn't smell dated, and quite modern for a chipre, Pour Monsieur EDP is running out of the present times fashion and trends. The notes are very well blended making it impossible for me to pick any one of them individually. CpM edp doesn't scream, doesn't offend, doesn't invade. It sits very close to the skin, very soft, almost powdery, but lasts for a long time. This wonderful smell follows you thoughout the day as an invisible cloud of goodness, of manhood. Too austere for work place, I've tried, unless you work in a very upper class office of any business but a serious one. I expect many could complain about silage and projection, but with Chanel pour Monsieur EDP, or the EDT for that matter, that's a good thing. Very good, indeed.

Impossible not to think about other scents like Mitsouko and Profumo, Boucheron pour Homme and even A Scent by Issey Miyake, Eau Sauvage and Miss Dior, and the green scents from Chanel itself like No 19 series and Cristalle. Those who love them will find a new friend in pour Monsieur EDP.

Pour Monsieur ~ Chanel's Gentleman
Absolutely stunning Chanel! I thought I would never find a true classic my nose would be drawn to without labeling respectfully "old man vibe" but Pour Monsieur has done it. I do believe this will compete with my first love Platinum Egoiste as my "Upper Class" formal scent? The lemon balanced with the oakmoss makes this a real charmer that just oozes with Gentlemanly style in any decade or era.
Over All ~ 9/10 on first wearing! Maybe higher on the second?

Seemed like the more classic one next to the edp. This one’s fresher, edp has more spices. The bottle is absolutely shite though.

Gentlemanly, ageless, unfortunately it lost the patch - sandalwood - oakmoss drydown. Not bad, but get the vintage for the real deal.

Smells like a cocktail of Azzaro pour homme mixed with Dior eau sauvage edt. Fresh citrus tomed down by some ginger and spice.
