Clean florals and cinnamon
Yeah, it’s a little like potpourri but there’s also the undercurrent of clean fresh roses florals with a bit of soap. It’s a complex fragrances that starts off very spicy and almost masculine but then becomes a more unisex, floral fragrance. I really like it, it’s complex and old fashioned but also works in the modern perfume landscape.

Don't Judge a Scent by its Clove
First off, before I get ridiculous, this is an excellent signature scent for a man or a woman, very wearable and beautifully structured. It's a smooth rosy clove that stays fresh and stays spicy all the way down to the end. I just realized I love cloves, L'eau makes me realize that it is not simply a reminder of winter holidays. This is a moderate sillage fragrance generating an approximately 6 inches (~15 cm) radius. While the fragrance remains solidly grounded on my skin it is not overwhelming and it is a veil of class and style rather than a heavy sweater on the wearer. If you're trying to decide between L'eau and Diptyque's L'eau de L'eau, the major difference is going to be the added fresh citrus created by a mandarin grapefruit lemon triad that is touched with petitgrain, lavender and orange blossom, giving L'eau de L'eau a distinctive fresh sunny summery feel over the beautiful gingery clove, benzoin and tonka base. In contrast, L'eau is a simpler but warmer composition cinnamon and clove over a green geranium which disappears after a while to reintroduce more clove with a soft warm sandalwood base. I now realize I need both of these in my collection, but anywho...

I was very excited to receive a full bottle of this for my birthday a couple of months ago, but I immediately put it away for Winter time. It's getting a bit cooler at night here and suddenly I am shivering with the antici...pation of wearing this one soon. There is something so Goth and naughty about clove, perhaps it's my association with the cool kids in college and clove cigarettes blending with worn leather and other secret herbs and spices, who knows! I do know that this is both a perfect daytime or night scent for a refined gentleman of any age as well as a gorgeous, clean spicy scent for a woman of any style or age. I'm going to be wearing this through out the cold rainy months because it both calms and intrigues me simultaneously. It seems to take that damp chill right out of the air and replace it with a thrilling warm and lively vibration. I can't stop hearing this line from Tim Curry's spectacular invitation to his unexpected late night guests, to come in from the rain and "stay for the night, or maybe a bite..." in the Rocky Horror Picture Show. He goes on to say (I hope my translation is close):
"So kommen ins Labor
und sehen, was auf der Platte
Ich sehe, Sie zittern mit Vorfreude
Aber vielleicht der regen
Ist wirklich schuld
Also werde ich beseitigen Sie die Ursache, aber nicht das Symptom."
"So come up to the lab
and see what's on the slab
I see you shiver with anticipation
But maybe the rain
Is really to blame
So I'll remove the cause but not the symptom."

Smells like dove or generic handsoap. Not bad. Nothing exceptional

Geranium and ginger up front, but the dry down is all spicy clove. Fresh and warm, would be a great day time winter scent.

It's odd, but strangely appealing. Like a cross between Irish Spring soap and Close Up (cinnamon) toothpaste. I'd enjoy it more on a man.
