Smoky honeyed tobacco...
Very interesting and seductive scent. I really like this one and find it intriguing. A very seductive scent which has a combination of all my favourite notes. Iris, honey, tobacco. All work together wonderfully in this.

This reminds me a little of Chergui by Serge Lutens. I think it has a very similar vibe and I find it intriguing. The iris note is great and I always appreciate iris in a perfume. It does smell like tobacco smoke, or at least a sweet incense. I find this would suit winter and autumn the best in my opinion, especially in the Eau de Parfum. I think if you like amber, incense or tobacco themes in fragrances, this is one to check out. Unisex and very noir, this is a great mysterious fragrance which would smell great on a well-dressed elegant person with style. Intriguing, seductive, and quite special.

Underrated warm spicy gem
Diptyque has so many good spicy scents, and so many good woody scents, that Volutes gets overlooked very often. In my shop, people are usually dazzled by the sparkling Orpheon, the popular leather note in Eau Rihla or the incense in Eau Duelle (which is another one of my favourites, don't get me wrong). But Volutes is a cosy gem of its own, and one that I wish more people would notice.

The combination of cinnamon and honey is like no other that Diptyque makes, and since cinnamon is a sweeter type of spice, it blends with the honey very smoothly, and almost makes you feel all cocooned and wrapped up in an olfactory hug. Additionally, the honey note isn't too common in Diptyque perfumes and it really makes this scent special for it.

And then you have the resinous opopanax grounding the whole composition, so it never comes across as too sweet or heady. I find that Diptyque does resinous notes really well across the board, and Volutes is no exception. The iris isn't perceptible to my nose, but it probably helps keep the scent well-rounded, brightening it where the opopanax darkens it.

Volutes projects just enough to be noticeable, yet not too much so it never gets overwhelming. It has a pretty satisfying longevity too! All in all, a really well-done warm spicy fragrance that works just as well as a daily winter scent as it does as a bedtime olfactory blanket.

Volutes EdP
The EdP opens with more creamy-powdery iris and less dried fruit/tobacco/immortelle than the EdT. The fragrance is again smooth and creamy, but has a better balance between sweet/powdery/herbal notes. The woodsy-herbal base does not dominate the orris note, but enhances its vegetal-rooty nature. The EdP is less warm and sweet than the EdT and it vaguely reminds me of Chanel's 28 La Pausa. They share the same peppery woodsiness in their bases, but otherwise they are totally different. Volutes is a lot denser and opaque than the 28 La Pausa. Just like the EdT, Volutes EdP quickly dries down into a generic woodsy-herbal blend ( with an unpleasant acidic facet) and then into nothingness.

The perfume of an elegant misterious gambler
Today I was in a Dyptique store and this one is the best of all I tried so I have to write a review of this beautiful journey although I am a little confuse reading the rest of the reviews because my journey was different with different phases!

I have learned that with this house you need to let develope the fragrances because most of them change a lot! And with this one it happens too.

First I wasnt very impresed. It smelled nice, leading masculine. Sour and mentholated. I thought it was the nicest licorice note with something menthy because it smelled green and fresh but with something dark that makes it misterious. It wasnt for me but I needed to keep smelling it while I was walking under the iluminated streets at Christmas. I had like 4 fragrances on me and this was the one that I wanted to keep smelling. I had to say that with Chergui (Serge Lutens) it happens to me that in my skin opens very mentholated while in the paper was beatifully sweet and like a cherry note, very complex, but in my skin it gets mentholated. With Volutes I tried directly on my skin and I got something similar to Chergui but more smooth and more unisex (although leading masculine)

After 1-2h it became smoky, the tobacco was smoke tobacco! Stronger but still very nice, with the typical Dyptique dna that can't offend anyone.

During my return to home it was more tobacco-honey and spicer. At this point I would love to smell it on my pairing but I wouldnt wear it...

Then it became very sweet and adictive, but the sweetnes came from the honey, not sugar and with something misterious and sensual. I really loved it!

And when I thought I couldent love it more (I was sniffing my wrist at this point) I started to smell the powdery iris, like vintage makeup (I love this kind of fragrances). It is very elegant and not cloying at all (but I am a Francesca Bianchi fan so if you are not used to stronger and more challenging things be careful!)

It is a very interesting perfume, I love when they keep changing and taking you to a misterious and exciting journey!

The title of my review was because I love spending time reading about perfumes here and playing to adjudicate it to my own fictional characters and this was the one I thought it would be perfect for a misterios elegant gambler ;)

Hide and seek powder
Something strange is going on with Volutes for me. I spray it on, I really enjoy the first impression, and then it... Goes poof. Just nowhere to be found. Not smelling a thing. Actually that's a lie, I can feel my nose bumping up against *something* it can't quite make out. I tried spraying more or less, no difference.

But! I got compliments throughout the day. And then when I grabbed my sweater from the day before, it suddenly smelled deliciously powdery and grown-up.
So something certainly is happening and some people are privy to it, just not me for the most part. I might still decide that's good enough to justify a decant, cos man, the tantalising bits I get of it are good.

A hyper-active, swirly honey-iris-tobacco combination. Similar to Chergui, but sweeter and a more simple composition. Fantastic quality.

Despite the sweet opening of honeyed tobacco, a rather mild powdery/floral female-oriented Fall fragrance, on a soft spicy-resinous base.
