Actually, I wanted to stroll leisurely through the streets, but I passed by the YR store. Hoggar immediately came to mind. Wasn't that the one with the desert in the advertisement? I directed my gaze at the store. Should I or shouldn't I? You can always test it! No - never mind, I have enough right now, it's probably not worth it, I thought to myself.
Then at the bakery, sitting with a cinnamon roll and strong coffee, it came to mind again. There I sat like a madman, staring obsessively at my cinnamon roll. The newspaper only half in hand, my gaze fixed on my sweet pastry. My thoughts wandered somewhere in the desert. Automatically, I thought of my trips through Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Morocco. Mhm.. It could fit with Casablanca, I thought. That one thought - and yes, I had to get it.
So I bought Hoggar on Saturday right after breakfast at the bakery. At 9:00 AM, I stood in the YR store. An extremely nice, elegant, and attractive lady asked me if she could help me, and I asked for Hoggar. She raised her eyebrows and nodded. "Yes, I have it, come, I'll show it to you!" She led me to a counter, where she gracefully rummaged Hoggar out of the drawer. To my surprise, she mentioned the fragrance notes and the direction it goes in. A fragrance consultation at YR? Yes, it seems to exist! And what a consultation it was. The lady chatted with me for a solid half hour, sprayed the perfume on my wrist, and also on hers, as she said she liked this fresh, yet spicy, but also warm men's fragrance. She then honestly (!) said that the perfume wasn't world-class, but still an extremely successful one that you can wear well. The fragrance notes appeal to me and are exactly my thing. The price is, of course, unbeatable. For 75 ml, I didn't even pay 35€. I thanked her and left.. What do you expect from a perfume? Well.. not particularly much.. or maybe? Perhaps just average... More likely there, but a bit above.
I applied it immediately in the store. Citrusy fresh, with a fine sweetness.. that's how it settles in at first. It has no strength in it at all. It's a bit overdone at the beginning with its sweetness and freshness. A tad too much for my taste. But first, it’s time to wait. The freshness is subdued, and the tonka bean settles in. Cedar mixes extremely intensely with the tonka bean. It seems as if they are swirling around each other. The freshness is initially lost, and a really gentle undertone spreads in the perfume. The lemon always remains as a support of the pyramid and presents it straightforwardly. No note slips away or really dominates the play. Everything stays somehow on one level. Only, in my opinion, the sweetness and the citrus change. The warmth often plays tricks on the cold. Sometimes the scent gets really warm, then again it rises into the cold. Just like the temperatures in the desert ;) The fragrance notes, however, do not. They do not oscillate up and down but are, as described above, on one level. I perceive the bergamot as extremely neat and really elegant. The scent is extremely pleasant. From beginning to end, it has not made any immense developments, only set itself up warmer or colder, but ultimately it is a warm woody scent, surrounded by hot sand and a faint hint of cold wind. I didn't particularly like the beginning, but after a short time, I found myself with a turban in the desert. You can really wear it somewhere in the sandy states during summer days. Yes, the advertisement hit the mark well this time. I can even imagine it for a trip through Casablanca. Although you would have to spray it more often, as the longevity is not particularly good, but for the price, you really can't complain.
I see Hoggar, pictorially, standing like an hourglass in the desert. The clock is surrounded by hot sand, and the sun makes it suffer quite a bit. The scent flows through the clock, always the same, but slowly, occasionally drifting when you shake the clock. Somehow I find that Hoggar is patient. It flows so beautifully, takes its time.. It doesn’t need to conquer the whole world or the desert for itself. It doesn’t want that either. It wants to be perceived and enjoyed quietly, as it is by no means a monster of perfume extremes.
But it is a good proof that you can smell good even for little money. One more plus point - the fantasy it awakens in me. These colors, this play of the advertisement with the desert. It is successful. However, the cap of the bottle is very cheap and not particularly beautiful. Well, but the content has to be right. And it is. Not 100%, but Hoggar certainly doesn’t want to be perfect.
