Painfully mediocre
What a bizzare release from Tom Ford. This doesn’t belong in the ombre leather line.

Smells like babycat from ysl with a heavier synthetic sweetness and a rubbery smell in the background. The first 30 minutes are okay, and then it’s just downhill after that. Just a glob of vanillic sweetness. I detect little to no leather smell.

Performance is just average, lasting about 6 hours. Projection is decent for the first hour.

This is not full bottle or even decant worthy for me. The 4 sprays i put on at Sephora are the most I will ever smell this.

Too much vanilla and too powdery
This is a combined review of Ombre Leather EdP, Ombre Leather Parfum and Eau d'Ombre Leather. I've been looking for a mild and versatile leather fragrance for those occasions where a strong leather scent won't work. Tested from samples. I had really high expectations for these, seeing how well liked they are.

Of the three, I preferred the scent of the EdP the best, although it seemed to be the sweetest of the three (but none are super sweet). The EdP is strictly leather but with the other notes softening it a bit and making it fresher and lighter. Where the EdP fails for me is in performance, specifically longevity. I got maybe about 4 hours out of it at which point it was a very subtle skin scent. I suppose it has been reformulated and watered down. Given the price, I expect much more.

The Parfum had better longevity (around 7 hours) with average sillage. The scent however is less leather. Or, maybe a better way to put it, it's leather plus a woody note and tobacco such that it's not very leather dominant - more of a well blended mix. I cared the least for the Parfum's scent.

Eau d'Ombre is the newest in the collection (released in 2024). It had the best longevity; got about 9 hours out of it. I'm currently at 11 hours and there still remains a very subtle skin scent. It starts out with a strong leathery scent which made be hopeful I had a winner here. I only got maybe about 3 to 4 hours of that. The fragrance then slowly deteriorated into less leather/more vanilla and powdery. Not my style at all.

TL,DR; Didn't care for any of them. The best scent was the EdP but it had dismal performance. The Parfum and Eau d'Ombre had reasonable performance but didn't care for the scent of either.

More than just leather…
Walking around the fragrance section of Neiman Marcus I eventually made my way to Tom Ford. I was able to test the new releases there “Black Lacquer” and “Eau d’ombrè Leather”
I had Ombrè Leather Parfum but felt there was no journey, the opening was the same as the mid and dry down.
With Eau d’ombrè leather (EdOL) there is a distinct journey. This is a EdT concentration which means it will project strongly but it won’t be as long lasting so 6-7 hours longevity it excellent.
The Scent: opens fresh (ginger/coriander and cardamon) still remains unisex also in the opening I immediately get the vanilla.

It’s not as spiced or incense heavy as babycat but if you’ve smelled babycat, you’ll think of it.

After the opening EdOL starts to feel creamier and smell woodier (sandalwood) and the rubbery leather smell (saffron) from RM5 shows up.
This creates a delicious spiced vanilla aura, strangely creamy and latex like- I really enjoy it.
So far everything is very smooth and very well blended.
As it dries, more leather and woods show up. Particular the cedarwood and Cypriol.

I enjoy the distinct phases of the fragrance and it created a wonderful scent bubble for 5 hours in very warm Texan summer night.

Unexpected twist to the series
Let me start off by saying this should've been a release by itself, and not a part of the ombre leather series, as it has little to no leather. This is the most un-leathery ombre leather out there, which also might make it the most mass appealing and palatable, which isn't always a good thing.

Powdery vanilla, a very soft cardamom and noticeable tonka bean with a teeny tiny leathery background, it is nice for what it is, a soft, powdery vanilla. But it is not what was expected from it by being in the OL line. Disappointing, but not bad in any way, a 10ml decant might be a solid pick for fall everyday use.

Ombre Leather Review in Plural
How many perfumes is Tom Ford going to churn out this year?, I ask myself. Should I also ask: how many perfumes are Estee Lauder going to butcher this year? That is more to the point.

I have stopped buying Tom Ford perfumes full stop. They are nothing like they used to be. Way overpriced and of poor quality. Having had over 50 different TF perfumes in my collection over the years dating back to 2007. It has made me conscious of how much of a change there has been in quality, direction, pricing, uniqueness and strength of TF fragrances.

Anyway with that said. This is about Ombre Leather, not just this EDT but all of them. I think it fair to say there are massive differences between them, but they are all from the same line.

If you have ever had the privilege to have had Ombre leather 16 (2016), then you will know what I am talking about. It had massive projection and longevity. It was smooth leather done to perfection. I sadly used the last few drops a couple of months ago and miss it dearly. Although it was an EDP it felt like a Parfum.

So when TF launched the parfum version in 2021. I jumped at the chance to buy a bottle. I didn't even sample it before. I should have not been such an idiot to be honest. I ended up not liking it at all. It reminded me of an unfinished perfume, similar to the launch of Oud Wood Intense. That was a disaster. I haven't tried Oud Wood Parfum yet, but what I read on Parfumo so far about it supports what I'm trying to say here.

This EDT is nice don't get me wrong. Much nicer than the Parfum. I could wear it on a daily basis but to be honest, the bottle wouldn't last long due to having to reapply it so often. I don't usually purchase EDT concentration but I can make exceptions.

The best since Ombre Leather 16 is the EDP launched in 2018. It was a bit weaker than the first but still had good longevity and projection. I would buy another bottle because I adore leather scents. The price point for the EDP is spot on and value for money which is a first for TF.

So to sum up. This is obviously my opinion and I completely respect all others.
From best to worst:
Ombre Leather 16 is 9/10 (If you can find a bottle it's a must for leather lovers)
Ombre Leather EDP is 8/10
Ombre Leather EDT is 7/10
Ombre Leather Parfum is 6/10.

Primarily creamy vanilla with light, sweet patchouli, the ghost of ozonic florals and violet leather is hidden deep, deep beneath it all.

100% my most preferred level of intensity for the Ombré Leather lineup. Clean, sophisticated, bold in a modest way

Spiced vanilla opening a la YSL babycat with a little of RM5 latex/rubber feel but the base is unmistakable TF Ombre Leather. Smells lovely

As soon as I smelled this in Macy's, I screamed "this is clearly Rosendo Mateu No.5!" Nobody knew what I was talking about.

I love the cardamom note specifically with the saffron and vanilla in the mid. The original DNA is still there and this is flanker.

Cardamom, vanilla and leather. The leather is toned down but it is much more wearable than the OG. A yummy warm spicy leather. Approved!
