Salt does not emit a scent...
Although my brain has the irrepressible flaw of reading "citrus fruits" and thinking of "fruitiness," this fragrance has fought for its place in my modest collection.
Citrus hesperidia usually do not smell like what I understand by "fruity." The term is firmly stored in my mind with something sweet, juicy, and delicious.
I think of luscious deep purple Bacchus grapes, golden cornucopias overflowing with overripe elegant fruit towers, and tastefully exciting vibrant colors in red, yellow, blue, and green.
Thus, during the first test in the perfumery, I was undeservedly shocked. To my shame, I had no idea what pomelo was and expected something orange-juicy. What I got were sour, bitter-refreshing, and greenish notes instead of Spanish sensuality.
Fortunately, I still let this fragrance touch my wrist, and lo and behold, a completely different fascinating scene unfolded.
The pomelo reminds me of a dense green canopy of low-growing exotic trees. Yes, there is another note, an undertone of balsamic aromatic... wood? Before my inner eye, a bright little forest appears, stretching to a white sandy shore.
A gentle breeze blows, carrying with it this salty trail of sea spray that breaks against flat dark rocks.
The sun hovers as a bright gray ball, obscured by clouds in the slightly hazy sky, and the waves gurgle animatedly.
What geographical location could it be?
Where do pomelos grow?
In this sense, I also get slight vibes of the opening scene from Pirates of the Caribbean 1, where Captain Jack Sparrow sails into Port Royal with his sinking hovel of a boat.
The scent feels a bit rough; it is fresh, exotic... and after a while, slightly soapy. As if one had pressed the beautiful scene into a foamy sink with a sweater and let it swell. Or sniffed one of the strictly uniformed Royal Navy soldiers. If you don't like this clean, piercingly slightly masculine flair, it could be a downside.
Nevertheless, it was definitely my favorite office companion in the summer of 2022; with it on my skin, no one felt stepped on.
Moreover, I could enjoy the surprise every time of getting such a vivid mental imagery from such a non-sweet fragrance.
This has only been achieved by the completely overpriced Wood, Sage & Sea Salt, so hats off!
