Much more honey than plum

4711 have launched all kinds of uplifing and refreshing EdC-combos, most of them sparkling, exhilarating, green and citrussy and ideal for summer. But the new "Plum&Honey" EdC is designed for fall/winter and seems to cater for people who have a strong penchant for fragrances dominated by honey. "Plum&Honey" is an Eau de Cologne, but I had to scrub the scent off my wrist using soap and a brush. This is one of the strongest and most long-lasting EdCs I've come across in a long time... the sickly-sweet honey lingers on and on while the nice plum-note is gone after five minutes. This might be good news for you if you happen to love honey. I personally don't enjoy honey at all, therefore I was disappointed by the new fragrance from Cologne. But please do give it a try if you're into honey. The price of 19.95 Euros for 50 ml of a very long-lasting cologne (in a refillable bottle!) sounds like a bargain to me.

Viva Colonia

I often have my birthday on Rose Monday - but I'm still not a carnival fan.

However, since my guests expected it, I went with them to the "Rosenmontagszoch" - which is quite common in the Rhineland.
And when the "Kamelle" were flying, and the crowd began to sway and sing Viva Colonia, the spark also jumped to us down-to-earth Westphalians.

This "good mood spark" is also found in Plum & Honey.
Very advisable for those feeling down or in a "blümerant" mood.

The plum is buttery soft and gently tart - drenched in golden aromatic honey.

Manageable ingredients - but well and consistently executed.
The scent awakens the spirits of life - but today it's used as a bedtime treat to grant me sweet dreams.
Moreover, it stays close to the skin and doesn't disturb my husband's beauty sleep.

I hum Viva Colonia - and think of the colorful costumes and the Rhineland cheerfulness.

As I already mentioned in my comment on 'Hazel & Tonka', we currently have a fair - with all the trimmings.
And because it's fair time, we have a discount at our perfumery. I wanted to take advantage of this discount and thought I could ask if they already have these two new releases from 4711 in stock.
Lucky me - they just arrived.
So I quickly tried them - a paper strip sprayed with 'Hazel & Tonka', another strip with the other new release 'Plum & Honey'.
Both smelled good on the strip, so they went on my skin - 'Hazel & Tonka' on the left, 'Plum & Honey' on the right.
And while I immediately regretted spraying the left side, I am still enjoying the scent on my right hand.
'Plum & Honey' smells fruity-fresh and simply lifts my spirits.
Somehow clean - my daughter says it smells a bit like soap - especially when I compare it to the burnt almond aroma on my left hand.
This fragrance doesn’t really develop much either - it seems to share that with all the scents from this series. But that’s not a problem if it’s a lovely scent.
And in this case, I’m of course happy that it lasts quite a while.

P.S.: From today on, it belongs to me.

Good New Addition

Christmas market in Do. and a stroll with my daughter. She was drawn to a perfume shop for a gift for her sweetheart, and I tagged along. That’s when the new bottles from 4711 caught my eye, which I had been wanting to test for a while. I like fresh and not too heavy scents. I don’t want a fragrance to be overwhelming and enter a room before I do. But please not the 4711 in the turquoise/golden bottle. That reminds me of grandma and the 60s. Childhood memories. Now back to the present. I spontaneously decided to test the two new releases. They seemed suitable for the cold season. Hazel & Tonka on one wrist, Plum & Honey on the other. Hmmmm ... both not bad. After a few minutes, I reapplied and lo and behold, my decision fell on Plum & Honey. At first, a tiny hint of the Mama 4711, before it continues fruitily warm. I can smell the plum very well, and it lasts quite a long time before the honey makes its presence known, giving the whole fragrance a rounding warmth without taking away the freshness. Pleasantly long-lasting on the skin and can even be worn longer than autumn/winter.

4711 as Sweetheart

4711 as a brand stands for (grandma's) freshness, neroli & summer, soap, sun & fresh laundry, but in recent years it has experienced something of a small revival & seems to appear a bit less dusty than it did a few years ago. Not a renaissance, but one could say a 17th spring. No wonder that even Tom Ford looks clearly & boldly at the real Kölnisch Wasser with his Neroli Portofino. But not only for this reason has the long-established Cologne company come back into focus, even more so due to a few completely new, fresh & younger-looking perfumes. Among this new wave of refreshers, "Plum & Honey" stood out to me right from the name, alongside the nutty variant. Because a fresh sweetie is still not often found & is extremely difficult to pull off successfully...

Unfortunately, for me, "Plum & Honey" is exactly not successful & proves just this - how hard it is to give otherwise sticky-sweet components like honey a fresh touch. In the end, very little actually reminds one of the sweeteners in the name. 4711 Plum & Honey is a fresh, light hotel room scent, similar to some Bulgari fragrances, only more synthetic & inconspicuous, cheaper & in every respect more affordable. I also perceive neroli strongly here, then at some point a grassy-bitter note sets in, which is lightened by a splash of honey. However, this fades super quickly & I can't make out a plum at all, try as I might. Or is the sharp undertone at the beginning supposed to be a delicious plum? More like an unripe one from a test tube. Still wearable & not a disaster, but it hardly moves away from the grandma image. Then it is at most the mother image now. After 1.5 hours, a soapy musk remains, which could hardly be more characterless & straightforward. Only the fair price speaks once again for this one of the perfumery forefathers.

Bottle: actually quite nice in shape, but the stickers, colors & names are not exactly on Guerlain level.
Sillage & longevity: at most a bantam weight, almost a flyweight. Longevity is okay - 5 hours.

Conclusion: not as sweet as the name suggests & actually just a hotel refreshment for in between, with minimal honey. I had hoped for much more...
