Warm amber oud
Bin Shaikh by Ahmed Al Maghribi is a very well blended spicy amber fragrance. It was a blind purchase based on the praise of online reviews, which I do not regret.

It opens with a sweet saffron and warm amber, supported by natural oud that remains quite linear on my skin. It has great longevity, easily staying over 9-10 hours, and good projection and sillage for the first 2-3 hours.

Not a daily scent, but it has an addictive quality, the more I use it, the more I like it.

From Stinky, to Sauna Infusion, to Beautiful
The first 10 minutes start with a stinky/animalic oud. If you can get through these 10 minutes, I feel like I'm in a lavender sauna infusion. This lasts for about an hour. After this hour, more fragrance notes join in and the perfume continues to evolve. The oud remains present, but for me it is very pleasant. The longer you wear the perfume, the sweeter it becomes, and the sugar becomes more pronounced. The saffron note adds an oriental touch to the perfume. The interplay is very well done for me, and I love this perfume. For me, it sits perfectly in the air; it is loud but not too loud. You notice it, but for me, not in an annoying way.

Sillage and longevity are also very good; I sprayed the perfume yesterday at around 9:30 AM, and by 11 PM, I could still perceive the fragrance and occasionally caught a whiff of it.
I can really recommend this perfume to any oud/lavender lover.

It definitely has similarities to "Oud for Greatness (Eau de Parfum) | Initio."

Oud for Greatness in a more oriental version?
I became aware of the fragrance through various reviews and videos as a "more oriental" version of Oud for Greatness by Initio, and since I consider this scent to be a great entry fragrance into the world of oriental scents, I was really looking forward to trying it.

First of all, I must say the packaging is really impressive for the price, even though the case strongly resembles the Xerjoff packaging, and the bottle is also quite beautiful, thick glass and interestingly designed.

Is the scent now a "more oriental" variant of Oud for Greatness? Not really, in my opinion. In the opening, the fragrance is definitely challenging, especially if you are not used to this scent direction. For the first few minutes, I get an animalic opening that makes you doubt the fragrance at first.

However, after these first minutes of spraying, the animalic aspect completely recedes, and I first get a saffron note that reminds me of the saffron note from Oud for Greatness or even slightly of Baccarat Rouge, just without that strong sweetness. Alongside it, there is a very earthy note, which potentially comes from the patchouli or the orchid. Over time, the fragrance transforms into an almost gourmand scent with this earthy note, which creates a really exciting combination.

In my opinion, the fragrance is definitely not a dupe or clone; it has similarities to Oud for Greatness or at times even to Baccarat Rouge, but it is completely independent and definitely has its own DNA, forming an exciting mix between sweet sugary notes and earthy notes. However, the sweetness is never too strong, like in the case of Baccarat Rouge, but rather at a very pleasant level. You have to like it; it's certainly not for everyone, but it's something different.

Regarding longevity, you only need to look at the glass bottom, where you can see an oil content of 55%, and you can already imagine where this is going. The longevity itself is definitely decent, but I don't perceive the fragrance as a projection monster; it rather wafts around you. The price-to-quality ratio is almost unbeatable; I paid €55 for the fragrance, and for the quality and oil content, it is definitely a clear recommendation for fans of oriental scents.

However, anyone expecting an alternative to Oud for Greatness or even a clone will likely be disappointed. Even though I can see the associations to some extent, the fragrances are completely different, and in my opinion, one does not replace the other.

Something for "Experienced Noses"
“Bin Shaikh” by Ahmed Al Maghribi is an extremely mature fragrance that occupies a special niche in the Oud genre. Although I am not a fan of the well-known "Oud for Greatness," I still own it and decided to order this perfume blind, hoping it might be a softer interpretation. Do I regret it? I don't want to jump to conclusions.

The similarities with "Oud for Greatness" become clear quickly, but with an additional, distinctive animalic note. This animalic depth gives the EdP a certain wildness and clearly sets the fragrance apart from other Oud compositions. Citrusy notes are present, but they remain far in the background for me, as the animalic facet quickly dominates and other nuances are, in my opinion, almost completely overshadowed.

Upon the first spray, I almost had the impression that an exotic animal had left its scent mark on me - an impression that developed into an earthy, woody note reminiscent of fresh mulch after about two hours.

I suspect that “Bin Shaikh” requires a certain maturity and a pronounced sense for artistic fragrance compositions. I recognize the artistry behind this and can imagine getting used to it. I could also envision this fragrance being perfect for an elegant, mature man with a white beard.

In summary, “Bin Shaikh” is not a fragrance for everyone, but if you appreciate "Oud for Greatness," this scent could offer an interesting, even deeper alternative, especially when considering the price difference.

Small update: After a few days, I was able to "get used" to the scent of Bin Shaikh. The Oud is about as perceptible as in OfG (if not slightly stronger). By now, the sweeter notes are also noticeable, but the animalic and Oud aspects still stand out strongly.

Update after about 5 months:
Yes, I have grown so fond of the scent that I am providing an update after several months. It may have taken a long time for it to develop on me, or perhaps my nose has simply adjusted to it. The Oud is and remains of absolutely the highest quality. Overall, the fragrance still smells strongly of mulch, especially in the opening, but the most expensive mulch! Sweeter, slightly citrusy notes are now also clearly perceptible. Although it has gotten really warm by now, I don't get headaches - quite the opposite. In the evening, when going out, I really enjoy wearing it. My girlfriend loves it too. It is simply the perfected Oud for Greatness. 10/10

Bin Shaikh smells like Oud for Greatness with slightly animalic oud, stronger saffron and the cotton candy of BR540. Woody, sweet, resinous.

Here you get the "OUD for Greatness" with a hint of animalic notes and a saffron opening. It transitions into a touch of rose and gourmand. Beautiful scent.
