quality for a fraction of the price
This is my first purchase from this house, and I'm simply stunned. I have never seen such high quality in an affordable fragrance. Honestly, I bought this for 20$, and it smells like a much more expensive scent. its not just the fragrance itself; the entire presentation, including the beautiful carved frosted glass and the pressurized atomizer, adds value to this hidden gem. Many fragrance houses could learn from AAM.
Scent wise, it opens up as a fresh, slightly sweet leathery fragrance. The sweetness, derived from bergamot, quickly fades behind a beautiful, masculine leather scent. Leather is very dominant in the scent pyramid and persists until the base notes. I also got prominent violet and patchouli as it lasted, but its not as oud-heavy as the name implies. In the drydown, it gives very similar vibes to Ombré Leather (2018) Eau de Parfum which I also own. what amazes me the most is how well-blended it is. Nothing smells synthetic, cheap or off- putting in this fragrance. (Interestingly, the bottom of box states it has 72% Vol, which means there's less alcohol and more oil in this fragrance than regular EDP's with 80% Vol alcohol)
The performance of this fragrance is about average. I had heard that AAM uses high concentrations of oil in their fragrances. well, this one, being a fresh, all year round scent, lasted around 4-5 hours on me with decent projection for about 90 minutes. maybe it needs to sit for a while just like most other middle eastern fragrances. Still, I feel the need to test it in more occasions.
--EDIT: okay guys. after letting it sit for near two weeks the performance has DRASTICALLY improved, most noticeably in terms of projection. now more than 3 sprays of it would be overpowering. I typically enjoy wearing fresh blue fragrances like BDC to the gym, and this time wore Blu Oud while the gym's heating systems were active. the scent didn't stop projecting until I finished my session and left the gym. I suppose the scent performs much better in heat. I'll save this one until the weather gets warmer.---
in the end I'm happy with this blind buy. I was worried that it might smell cheap for being a budget fragrance, but I was proven absolutely wrong. I will definitely continue exploring more from this wonderful fragrance house.
