Cuir Beluga's salty child
This starts out quite similar to Guerlain's wonderful classic Cuir Beluga. It has the same powdery texture, the same cozy level of sweetness and ambery warmth, and a closely related kind of vanilla. Even though it's not listed, I also smell the same cherry-like heliotrope as in the original. Cashmeran Vanilla is missing the leather note though, and it's not quite as refined when you compare them side by side. That's a high bar to pass for a cheapie though, the vanilla fragrances in the Guerlain L'Art & la Matière collection are really one of a kind, so I don't let that detere you, this still smells a lot more expensive than expected.
At first I thought naming it Vanilla Cashmeran was kind of random, because in the opening I don't get any cashmeran at all. But it comes out in the drydown, along with the salted caramel note. A smooth, creamy, woodsy and salty sensation takes over in the base, as if Cuir Beluga had a child with Calvin Klein Reveal. I would never have thought of this combo, but it works. Maybe I'll try layering these on my own, as I have both.
The bottle design is atrocious, just like the other bottles in this line. It reminds me of the 90s in the worst way, the male/female sign looks like something on a CK One knockoff or a sketchy pheromone oil. But if you can ignore that, this is a real hidden gem and a lovely budget alternative for Cuir Beluga.
