There was a time when I was raving about animalic perfumes. Things could not get sweaty, pissy or greasy enough. I wish I was familiar with Russian Adam's work back then. But those days are over. I am still very fond of the animalic notes, but only if they are part of a broader concept and properly balanced with florals, woods and ambers. Exactly this is why I do not get along with many ALD perfumes. Their emphasis on powerful musks tend to feel off-balance to me. There are a few exceptions, of course.

Civet de Nuit is what I would like to call a dual layer experience. A top layer that appears as a full-on perfume by itself. It has a clear structure of powder, florals and woods. The initial scent profile is a mix of purple-yellow florals, quite tame, fuzzy and softened with almond powder and sandalwood. This develops over time and lets in some browner shades like tobacco and honey.

Then there is a sublayer, an ultra-low pitched undercurrent that keeps interacting with the top layer right from the start. This is where we find the animalic notes. Apart from a forceful set of musks in typical ALD style, we have the main character. ALD refers to it as "Antiquated Civet Tincture", which I find a bit confusing. The word antiquated gives a outdated, old-fashioned connotation, while that is not quite the case. We're talking a contemporary artisan setting with a slight vintage feel, but nothing what I would describe as outdated. The quality is evident and it has a waxy sweetness that is hard to get around. I get a similar feel from the civet in Souls on Fire - Osmanthus Floral, but this reaches a much deeper level in terms of that primal sensation, that urge to purr and roar.

Those two layers I mentioned seem to co-exist and not fully converge somehow. At the same time the combination does really feel good. The animalics are strong, but fit perfectly in this floral-woody setting. So yeah, this is definitely one of the exceptions that I am not re-selling after one or two wears, like I did with most ALD's. Not sure if that is thanks to the hand of Sultan Pasha. Maybe it is time to explore his work a bit more. Another quest ahead!

The scent is built on extremely rare 1970s distilled natural civet note. Civet, due to its age, has lost some of its "animalistic" character but gained creaminess and unique sweetness. The creaminess of the scent is further enhanced by (already banned in European perfumery) Mysore Sandalwood. The entire composition is surrounded by various natural flower extracts: Jasmine, Heliotrope, Ylang Ylang. In the base, you can find natural white amber, labdanum, and benzoin resin, which provide warmth, coziness, sweetness, and stability to the fragrance. Aldehydes in the perfumes transport us back to the good old 20th century Chanel times when fragrances still contained all-natural ingredients. The scent is unisex, leaning towards feminine.

Old school for real
Civet de Nuit by Areej Le Dore x Sultan Pasha

Old school opening, which already specifies where the perfume will go.
Over all I feel a powdery note, slightly almondy (heliotrope?) at times almost sugary like honey.

Once the opening has settled, you can notice a slightly animalic (civet+castoreum?) part together with dark floral notes, where a part of oak moss (!!) already comes out, something balsamic and finally tobacco.

In context I would say it can be a floral/animal/tobacco scent with many facets.

Masterpiece
“Civet De Nuit” another masterpiece by @areejledoreperfume in collaboration with @sultanpasha78. What about this fragrance? It has an incredible sweetness given by honey and amber which means that the fragrance is not excessively animalic as it contains ambergris, civet and castoreum. Russian Adam and Sultan Pasha have done a beautiful job here by merging their olfactory ideas together. It is a welcoming, warm and elegant scent. Sincere congratulations! I couldn't not have it in my collection!

Comforting fur!
It's Sunday, the morning is gloomy and foggy outside. Wearing Civet de Nuit, you are being wrapped in the gentle and warm feeling of the finest fur on your skin..it envelops you with it's softness and gives you a sense of comfort and security while the first drops of rain are gently touching the flowers in your garden under your window, the smell is divine! There are some rich heliotropes and ylang-ylang, which give an almondy and silky floral touch to the composition, then Jasmine comes to play and seductively dance with animalics like civet and even more prominent-castoreum, especialy at the very first spray!

Dark, floral, animalic and fuzzy where rich florals are the main players! Very cozy fragrance from Russian Adam and Sultan Pasha. Great collab guys! Bravo!

Animalic, urinal civet opening with vague vanillic, nutty heliotrope.
Civet calms a bit and lets ylang-ylang show itself.
Vintage vibes.

Sweet powdery heliotrope, aldehydes, a cozy fury civet and flowers. Musk, tobacco leaves and a bit too much frankincense in the drydown.

Its rich, animalic heart of civet and ylang-ylang is balanced by powdery florals and warm woods.

Can't get past that "dirty skin" scent. Personal preference. Some will enjoy it, most won't notice it.

In the opening, it's like back in the day, the civet with aldehydes is wonderfully soft.
Unfortunately, it's later overwhelmed by too much beaver and musk.

A beautiful, floral scent, clearly trimmed to be opulent and "old" with a contractual animal dosage. Musk becomes too much at some point.
