From bar soap to church walls to velvet gardenia petals
Not my style, but a very interesting, contrasting scent. Thw opening comes across as old-fashioned and soapy to me. Imagine a vintage-inspired bar soap with an incense and white floral scent. At this point, the scent is floral, but doesn't smell decidedly like gardenia.
But after a while, the thick, creamy, velvety character of the flower really starts to shine. To me this is more of a frankincense than an olibanum scent. It reminds me of old stone church walls at times. But then, a moment later, it suddenly feels much warmer and more balmy. It changes all the time, while gardenia steadily lingers in the background.
I'm a bit confused about the top notes, I really don't get the summery, fresh scent one imagines from neroli, coconut and lime. Just gardenia and resins. It's more of a winter scent to me, with a bit of a retro feel to it.
It's always hard to rate a scent that is good, but not to your personal taste... I settled for a 7 because I kind of like this and enjoyed sampling, but really wouldn't want to smell like that myself.
