Elegant granola mom fragrance
Bon Parfumeur's 106 is immediately likeable in its simplicity. It's rose, vanilla, and something distinctly "organic shop", distinctly "sustainable lifestyle but make it chic".

To me, this fragrance is a woman who shops at the small, local organic grocery store for quinoa, hazelnut spread, and clay-based shampoo. She is 36 years old, has 2 boys aged 5 and 3, a job in local government, and chestnut-colored hair that's naturally-dyed. She recycles and goes to protests and is an all-around solid person. She believes in healing herbs and also tarot.

I like to think, if my mother had been the kind of person to wear this perfume, my childhood would have been pretty blissful. Now I just wear it myself to feel grounded, kind, maternal, but still sexy in a herbal tea-drinking kind of way.

106 Damascena rose, davana, vanilla - A wonderful single-minded rose
Bon Parfumeur perfumes focus on three key notes, using ancillary minor notes to embellish these primary notes. Their perfumes typically are elegant and modest, never meant to cause ways. This review was originally written for a sample I received from Bon Parfumeur, in a tiny screw-top bottle. Later, I purchased a 15 ml bottle and updated the original review. 106 is a nice Damask rose perfume with minimal complications. The primary notes are damascene rose, davana and vanilla, which are included in its name.

The olfactory pyramid that I perceive is very close to what is reported on the Bon Parfumueur website. No pleasant or nasty surprises here. The opening tells you everything you want to know about 106. It is blast of damascene rose, darkened a little by the supporting actors. The perfumer says that these ancillary opening notes are amber seeds and pink pepper. I don’t know how amber seeds smell, but I do not get pink pepper. However, there is something distracting in the opening. But I am more likely to finger the papyrus notes bleeding up from the heart section as the culprit. The heart section also includes davana, according to the website, which is perceptible in the opening. The base notes are vanilla, balsam and sandalwood, all of which I can smell as a soft but nice homogenous blend. The damascene rose is clearly present in the base notes. Are all these other accords helping or hurting the rose in 106? To be fair, 106 is essentially damascene rose, davana and vanilla.

I like the longevity of 106, particularly as this has been a problem with some of the Bon Parfumeur fragrances. The primary notes are alive and kicking even after 8-10 hours. Sillage is good enough for a perfume of this personality. I would recommend this one if you are looking for a damascene rose perfume.

Let us talk about value. As Elie Saab Essence No. 1 Rose is available with US grey market sellers for $65 for a full bottle, I hesitate to pay $120 for a full bottle of Bon Parfumeur 106. For all practical purposes, Essence No. 1 and 106 are essentially interchangeable. Francis Kurkdjian’s rose in Essence No. 1 is brighter, but 106 has its own merits and the lovely davana note. Recently, I bought Tiziana Terenzi Delox, another similar perfume, for $68. Delox is also a bright vanilla rose with some interesting wine-like notes in the opening. This perfume also should be given serious consideration.

In summary, Bon Parfumeur 106 is a wonderful single-minded damascene rose perfume. It is worth the money if you can get 100 ml of it for $65-70. There are various sizes and deals available on the Bon Parfumeur website that are worth checking out.

Soapy Rose
The perfume starts off very green-soapy for me. I find it rather unpleasant, as if the soapy feeling settles in my throat.
After the first one to two hours, this strong, almost piercing soapiness subsides and alongside the rose, a bit of vanilla emerges for me. At this point, the scent becomes a bit sweeter.
I'm not thrilled, perhaps the fragrance just develops unfavorably on my skin.

A comforting rose-vanilla perfume that is made slightly green, herbal, medicinal even by this little unexpected touch of davana. Wow!

Balsamic warm, subtly spiced + with a hint of sweetness, a lush bouquet of roses warms here. Bright roses, resting on fine wood. It has retro vibes.

Very sweet candy rose. Caramel sandalwood rose. I prefer my roses greener & more natural. But it will surely be popular in the real world.

A nice, clean rose scent, but it doesn't quite convince me. It somehow lacks something special.
