An elegant Cocoa fragrance
I've been trying to write about this fragrance, thinking too much, probably way more than needed, everything about this fragrance is beautiful, the inspiration Ludovic love story, the work by the perfumer Clément Marx who did an incredible achievement here, it's not easy to find a great cocoa fragrance, much less a great one with elegance, and I'm happy to say, this is it. Honestly, to me, the best creation Bon Parfumeur has done until today.

The main notes I get from Iris Cartagena are cocoa and cedar/papyrus, this are the protagonists, yet, there's enough complexity to make it interesting without going overboard. The iris helps give it a romantic aura, alongside the vanilla which provides a backbone to the fragrance. The textured cedar note gives a slight sharp nature to the perfume which helps giving it character, with some green facets which I guess may come from papyrus helps further provides a beautiful balance to the cocoa.

This one is stunning and very much deserving of all praises it is getting, a comforting fragrance that not only provides a complex nature yet easy to enjoy, it avoids the over saturated gourmand territory with their ultra synthetic sweetness and manages to create something unique without being strange, easy to love and creates such a beautiful aura of scent around us. Yep, if you can see my enthusiasm, you can tell how much I love this one, honestly, one of my favorite cocoa fragrance I've come across in my scented journey. I can only say, bravo to the team behind this creation!

Sweet powdery butter
This fragrance is all over Instagram for some reason so I thought I'd give it a try to see what the hype (paid or otherwise) was about. I was expecting, at least from the name if not from the notes, a "carribean" type of scent with rum, sugar cane, cacao, plus the namesake powdery iris.

What I was not expecting, and hadn't really seen mentioned before is the butteriness of this fragrance. Not orris butter, but cow's milk butter. Smells exactly like a kitchen after melting some butter in a pan or in the microwave. Even gives off a bit of popcorn vibes just from the butteriness of it. Sure, the iris and cacao are there and provide a bit of sweetness and powderiness but the butter overwhelms. Not really my thing.

office gourmand (real) ((not clickbait))
gourmand lovers with a 9-5 rejoice, this is a classy, balanced, powdery gourmand that sits close enough to your skin to not fumigate the general public. this is not sillage-negative, you can at least smell yourself, but this is simply not going to create a bioweapon scent bubble in close quarters, which is an underrated quality for a fragrance to have. the iris is present, the cacao is distinct and warm without being cloying or bakery-adjacent, the rum adds a sensual mysterious smoothness, and the woods are not the awkward generic and unblended woody base slapped into a lot of sweet fragrances.

i can't say at this time that i'd buy a full bottle but this is really great for itching a gourmand nagging in a demure fashion when you don't want to be a walking cupcake. this is also very unisex to me and probably would be really fantastic on a man as much as on a woman.

502 Iris Categena (Smooth Iris Scent)
Just spent some time with Bon Parfumeur 502 (Iris / Cacao / Papyrus) and honestly, I think this one’s a hidden gem if you’re into cozy, powdery scents with a little twist. To me, it opens like soft iris petals dusted in cocoa powder—not overly sweet, just this smooth, creamy vibe that feels super comforting. The papyrus adds a touch of dry, woody contrast that keeps it from feeling too soft or floral. I’d say it kinda sits in that same family as Prada Infusion d’Iris, but with a warm, edible edge that reminds me a bit of MFK Gentle Fluidity Gold, minus the projection. In my opinion, it’s more of a skin scent—intimate, warm, and perfect for chill days or when you want something lowkey but still interesting. It doesn’t scream “look at me,” but it definitely says “come closer.”

Elegant mostly-gourmand of iris/cocoa/coffee
Sampling Bon Parfumeur – 502 Iris Cartagena, part of the house’s extrait line and a 2024 release that I first smelled at the brand’s introductory event at Perfumology a few days ago, though I’d previously ordered samples from Olfactif. It’s fittingly led by iris but mostly a gourmand, a blend of cacao, rum, vanilla, coffee, and woods, so the sharp yet buttery iris plays against the sweet, creamy, dark blend of gourmand elements, modulated by woods. It’s neither a full gourmand nor floral but something somewhere in between, classy and innovative. I’ve not quite smell an iris/gourmand crossover like this, even though the concept has been explored before by other houses, as I recall. The execution on the concept is very strong.

502 Iris Cartagena is extrait concentration and is priced at $220/70 for 100/15ml, sold in the US via the house website as well as great boutiques like Perfumology, Olfactif, and Ministry of Scent, to name a few.

Overall, I find this pretty captivating and high-performing, and I find the 15ml option a great way to try out before buying a full 100ml, or to have a travel-friendly option available. I very much like when brands offer bottle sizes less than 50ml for more modest consumption, less investment, particularly if/when there are several fragrances in a catalogue that I like to try out some more or if I cannot pick a favorite.

Sweet boozy opening, with a bitter mix of cocoa and petitgrain. Proceeds to a woodier base with faint coffee, enveloped in powdery orris.

Elegant, powdery cocoa scent with notes of cedar, iris and a touch of vetiver. Dry, woody, creamy, gourmand without being overly sweet.

Vetiver covered in dry, dusty chocolate and orris. Semi-sweet, earthy, smooth, but so powdery it makes my nose tingle like a sneeze.

So buttery thick, it's heavenly. It's got a denseness that reminds me of peanutbutter somehow!

Soft iris meets cocoa and rum—creamy, powdery, and pleasant but lacks strong identity or depth.
