A good serviceable neroli fragrance but nothing out of the ordinary
Bon Parfumeur 001 Orange blossom, petit grain, bergamot is a prototypical neroli and white floral fragrance, created by Nathalie Koobus. Launched in 2016, it does not cover any new ground, though this is not necessarily a defect. This review is based on an original sample that I bought from Jovoy Paris.
The official notes listed for 001 on Bon Parfumeur website are bergamot, lemon, mandarin, petit grain, orange blossom, lavandin, musk, jasmine and rosemary. The opening notes are bergamot and lemon according to my nose, with little mandarin perceptible. The transition to the heart notes is smooth and barely noticeable. The petit grain and orange blossom continue the fresh citrus accord from the opening. The lavandin note is there, but it runs the risk of being overrun by the petit grain. Lavandin is a plant closely related to lavender from the Lavandula family. It supposedly has a stronger scent than lavender, though it is barely noticeable in 001. The base notes on my skin are hints of musk, jasmine and rosemary, mixed with the remnants of neroli. The musk is much more vivid on my clothes than on my skin. These unoriginal notes and the absence of any significant progression during its life on the skin makes this a very prosaic perfume. However, I do not want to deride 001 too much because we all need an innocuous neroli in our lives.
The performance of Bon Parfumeur 001 is exactly as you would expect from a typical neroli fragrance. It lasts 4-6 hours on my skin with a soapy personality. It doesn’t project much, but still detectable at close distances. I feel this is the perfect perfume for healthcare workers; good, mild and inoffensive.
There is a niche for Bon Parfumeur 001. It is a good fit if you are looking for a safe perfume for workplaces where strong scents are frowned upon. It is good value perfume if you can get it around $80 for 100 ml. Unfortunately, Bon Parfumeur sells it for $140. I like Bon Parfumeur 001 also as a good substitute for many expensive neroli fragrances big-name houses such as Guerlain, Tom Ford and Matière Premiere. But there are other inexpensive neroli fragrances to consider, like those from Essential Parfums, Chopard and countless others.
