Via Negativa
Yet another evasive creation from the house of Boucheron, JAIPUR SAPHIR is what I'd call a "via negativa" perfume, by which I mean best described in terms of what it's not:

Not flowery, not sweet, not sharp; not spicy, not aquatic, not dark; neither cologney nor aromatic; not loud, not fruity, not nutty, not woody; not resinous, not musky; neither dirty nor dusty. No relation whatsoever to its namesake and predecessor, JAIPUR.

The only non-negational thing that I can think of to say about JAIPUR SAPHIR edt is that this smells to me like a very subtle unisex niche composition with carefully measured components woven together to form a sort of atmospheric scent which defies deconstruction. I find it impossible to tease out individual distinct notes. It might be very lightly tinged green... then again, maybe not.

Definitely perfume-police approved.

Promising Fruity Oriental
Florientals have always had an easy time with me; I am scarred by 80s bombers, and years of using Angel and the like in the 90s have left deep marks in the olfactory centers of my brain, so I was filled with anticipation and goodwill when I came into possession of a fresh Jaipur Saphir bottle (thanks to Trixie!).
And it exceeded my expectations!
The top note is super beautiful, spicy-fresh, but also fruity, as the sweet white peach gives its best performance.
The heart note leans towards the classic Jaipur but stays on the path of cool, fresh spices, cardamom, cinnamon; all very yummy, but also refreshing, and not too sweet.
The special thing: Throughout the entire development, the scent remains creamy-exotic-fruity in the background, like a high-quality mango cream ice cream.
The base is pure cocooning, ambery, soft like a fluffy cashmere blanket, delicate and beautiful.
While the scent may be oriental, the perfect incorporation of spices and fresh-sweet fruits is skillful, not just intended.
A spicy fruity oriental.

By the end of the millennium, fruity florals were already in. This one mixed with spices, but no comparison to the original Jaïpur.

Heliotrope is particularly beautiful here, cinnamon pairs wonderfully with it, and the fluffy-vanilla musk rounds off the scent
A little in love... yes

A poem written with yuzu ink on a slice of peach. Commas made of mandarins, heliotrope, and cinnamon create separators, while the dots are made of vanilla.

Blue Brother - oriental without being overwhelming. Warm, soft, and cozy: Perfect! - unfortunately hard to find now :((

Cool, citrusy, shell-bitter start, then powerful-floral. Fades to sweet, vanilla. Musk noticeable, but subtle.
