A lovely yet inexpensive incense and rose fragrance - recommended for great value.
There is a collection of perfumes named a very unimaginative La Collection Boucheron that connects a note to a city or region. This collection was developed by Inter Parfums which currently markets Boucheron perfumes. This collection includes perfumes like Iris de Syracuse, Oud de Carthage, Néroli d’Ispahan and many others. Rose d’Isparta is the rose representative in this group. Unfortunately, this collection is not advertised much, perhaps lost in the complicated marketing and ownership arrangement between Inter Parfums and Boucheron. Perfume lovers are advised to seek them out and test them, because many members in this collection offer excellent value. Rose d’Isparta was created in 2020 by Sonia Constant, a perfumer affiliated with Givaudan. Moonlight Patchouli, another creation from this perfumer, is a favorite of mine. This review is based on a full bottle bought from a US discounter.
The notes listed for Rose d’Isparta on the Inter Parfums website are ginger, frankincense, ambrette, cinnamon, Turkish rose, saffron, sandalwood, musk and amber. Parfumo has additional notes – freesia, hawthorn, vanilla and tonka bean – that are not perceptible to me. According to my nose, the opening notes are frankincense, ginger and ambrette, but the latter two pale before the intensity of the incense. Within a few minutes the damascene rose starts appearing, enhanced by cinnamon and saffron notes. The base notes of sandalwood, musk and amber are good, but not impactful. Both the base notes and the dry down ends up as amorphous woody notes with some rose in it. The overall vibe of Rose d’Isparta can be summarized as incense-rose-woody, which continues from beginning to the end with minor changes. This perfume smells fantastic on a paper blotter but feels a bit generic on my skin. So, adequate on-skin, at-home testing is recommended.
Rose d’Isparta lasts long on my skin. The intensity and projection in the opening hours are excellent, bordering on excessive. I can smell the incense and rose even after 6-8 hours, but there is a drop off after the first few hours. If you are planning to wear it at work, start early and in small quantities. I would spray at least two hours before you walk into any closed space.
In summary, Rose d’Isparta is a beautiful incense and rose perfume that is moderately priced. If you over-spray it, it takes on the personality of a cheap rose incense sticks that I am familiar with from my childhood in India. I am happy to have a full bottle as I currently lack a good incense-rose perfume, but this may not a sufficient reason for others. This is a value-based recommendation from me, as it costs less than $74 at the discounters in US.
