Mauvais?
Mauvais Garçon (nothing “mauvais” in here really) is a warm-spicy scent with a “barbershop” floral heart (lavender and other floral notes I personally don’t detect clearly), a head accord of bergamot, something minty-green, something balsamic, spices (the pyramid is trustworthy – I get tonka, cumin, cinnamon, nutmeg), cedar and sandalwood on the base. The evolution is close to zero, it all goes lighter and softer. Honestly it smells much mainstream to me, in the negative sense: it reminds me of several cheaper scents, and I don’t get anything in here which shall be a “niche” feature (no particular high quality/creativity, and so on). Among others it reminds me of a couple of Cacharel’s, from Pour Homme to Nemo – just more floral, more herbal, incomparably less fascinating and less rich. Just a spicy-woody resinous floral scent without praise or blame... which I wouldn’t consider “bad” at all, rather just “nicely” mediocre.

Clean Debauchery
Why do I love this? It's tobacco accord for me, sweet and resinous and deep and smokey-honey, but with a tiny edge of medicinal sharpness. It's not barber shop. It reminds me of summer nights in Barcelona, and Paris. The first thing I thought of was being in your 20s and going out for the night in the summer in Europe. But it doesn't quite smell the same, it's like a hint of that plus the club, and the sweat from someone you danced closely with, and a bit of a sweet cigarette smoke that your clothing absorbed, and some rum that you spilled on you. And despite all of that, and the long night of debauchery, you still smell under it all like you just showered.

A sweet vanilla for sweet boys!
Mauvais Garçon is actually quite a sweet one!

I smell a vanilla oriental here, lush and at first glance way too sweet - pure sugar water. The citrus opening fades quickly, then woods come in. Indefinable spices are noticeable. Everything is too strong for the lavender to be perceptible on its own. I smell none of this herb, and yet it’s there! I felt the same way with Serge Lutens Gris Clair; and Mauvais Garçon is not far from that.

No, on the sprayed spot, Mauvais Garçon is not nice at all. Mauvais Garçon only works in projection: attractive, masculine, and later also powdery musk notes come into play - powdery musk seems to be a trademark of Brecourt. And the lavender also serves its purpose in projection and lets everything float beautifully.

Well, I don’t really need this scent. There are more exciting options in the vanilla direction. Mauvais Garçon has too much Givenchy Pi and too little Jicky, Jaipur Homme, or Dior Homme for my taste. It lacks that certain something. I think Mauvais Garçon will still find its buyers, as it is not bad. Sweet and heavy as it is, I would recommend it for use in the cold season.

As for vanilla-oriental men's perfumes, these sometimes have a strong contrast to the vanilla opulence: Boucheron’s Jaipur Homme EdP would be an example with its strange medicinal top note. However, this does not make perfumes in this direction any less demanding. Mauvais Garçon has dispensed with that - which makes sense: the vanilla-woody-powdery sweetness doesn’t need any further complexity. I admit - after a certain initial phase, I find Mauvais Garçon quite likable.

The sexy name of this fragrance is not poorly chosen. I see young women as the target group here, looking for a delicious perfume for their boyfriend.

So, I have now tried all the new men’s fragrances from Brecourt. My conclusion: You get decent quality for a not too high price - that’s more than with many common perfumes in the Douglas range. Brecourt is not only looking at the mass market in terms of price but also at mass taste. Aside from Mauvais Garçon, there are even cautious fragrance experiments that never really violate a convention. Can Brecourt position itself well with this concept?

Passable
Well, this fragrance is not exactly an innovation, but quite passable. I think they want to attract fans of Le Malle and similar scents.

The scent development has already been described in detail, and I will refrain from providing another version.

The differences to the dominant fragrances on the market are rather subtle, and I think Brecourt should reconsider their marketing strategy.

The brand presentation is oriented towards various niche brands and offers all fragrances in the same bottle. However, all the scents I have been able to test were far from that and merely well-crafted mainstream.

The average consumer needs a visual difference from the scent of their average partner (as sweet as this guy smells, she could use it too). How else is he supposed to recognize that it is a men's fragrance, and who wants to read early in the morning?

By the way, I was surprised by the mediocre longevity of such a fragrance concept. This could mean another knockout criterion in the mass market.

Not bad!
So, I have now tested the third fragrance from Brecourt. After having a very positive overall impression of the first two scents, this one further reinforced that.
In my opinion, this is also an excellent fragrance, well-crafted and distinguished by its versatility.
At first, I detected a very fresh, citrusy, and fruity note that was also quite sweet; then the sweetness remained and was complemented by vanilla. Generally, this is exactly my fragrance direction, but in this case, I would have preferred if this citrusy fruity scent had lasted a bit longer, as it truly had something very interesting.
Unfortunately, the longevity of this fragrance is only mediocre for me, and accordingly, there’s a deduction for that; ultimately, it gets a solid 70%.

Light lavender scent with a subtle sweetness in the base, reminding me more of refined gentlemen than bad boys. Pleasant!

Indifferent woody, chocolatey/sweet, linear. Maybe I suffer from vintage syndrome, but this one smells like 100 others.

Great scent - on my skin with lots of spices, fresh herbs, cushioned by warm sweet tonka and vanilla. Definitely unisex!

Pleasant lavender scent, you can't go wrong with it! Nothing more, nothing less! Personally, a bit too unremarkable for me!

This "Bad Boy" should be called "Bad Girl" because the scent is way too sweet for a boy. However, it's spicy at first and woody at the end.
