My favourite from Brécourt
"Ambre noire" opens with a strong and harsh note of lavender combined with hesperides. Some glimpses of galbanum add to the generally fresh impression of this boisterous start. Since the fragrance is called "Ambre noire", I expected some deeper notes in the well-known, even notorious "amber style" to take over, and indeed, after 15 min, I smell a woody-ambery heart blended with pine-wood and cedar plus a touch of incense. The drydown features those cedar-notes from the heart which linger on for a long time - all in all a fine scent - well done! Not as hackneyed as I expected when I read the name. Like it a lot!

Even when the bonfire threatens...
Magic and witchcraft, the dark knowledge of primal powers. To summon them and ignite passion was the skill of witches - those solitary women who are still surrounded by an aura of fascination today. The witch and her dark, viscous tinctures, mixed to enchant the senses, to draw the beloved into obsession, to force reciprocation. In the gloomy forests, surrounded by thickets and ancient trees, once hid those women who were said to have had power over the living and the dead with the help of the devil. On secret paths came to them those whose souls writhed in flames. Unrequited love and desire often drove women to seek out a wise one to give fate a nudge in the right direction. How tempting the prospect of plunging someone into desire from which there is no escape! For this, seekers sacrificed jewelry, gold, valuable possessions, and not least their fear of God.
The room is dark, smoky, and filled with mystical objects. Dried herbs, grasses, flowers, clumps of feathers and blood, resins and stones surround the hearth - the heart and soul of the witch's house. The petitioner is torn between fear and trust, between the urge to flee and the prospect of success. The longed-for is just a spell away - and yet the witch seems to be from another world. She places the cauldron on the embers, and her nimble fingers crumble all the wondrous stuff into it that is needed to rob the man of his senses. Smoke rises and hisses. The witch murmurs and calls upon the elements. The poor lovesick woman cannot take her eyes off the embers. The name of the beloved hovers a hundred times over the cauldron, dancing with the smoke, whispered, called, conjured by the rough voice of the witch, the voice of a woman who rarely speaks. The scents are foreign and never smelled before, and yet they touch the deepest parts within. The witch sways back and forth, her lips forming the secret words, her eyes glowing like the embers beneath the cauldron. It bubbles there, labdanum and amber melt, and myrrh, in which branches, flowers, and wood splinters sink. The figure of the seeker is now just a shadow in the smoky room. Her mind is enchanted, confused, detached from fear and reality. She is no longer who she is and is becoming more and more like who she wants to be for him. The witch scrapes the viscous lump from the cauldron.
It is dark brown, velvety-soft, and it smells as it looks - of forbidden desire, of dark magic, and of the devil's power. The witch wraps it in green leaves.
- When the moon is full and the night brightens, go to the brook at midnight. There wash yourself three times and rub a small piece on your breasts, on your thighs, and on your belly. Let your hair dry in the moonlight and return to the village. Stir a small lump into sweet wine. Wake him up and let him drink. Be with him.
The woman nods with reddened eyes and pulls out a golden coin from her warm bosom. The witch reaches for it and urges her to leave:
- Take the path under the old oak over there. Pull your shawl low over your face. And be careful! No one must know where you have been!
The woman quickly walks between the bushes, and only a few moments later her steps can no longer be heard.
The witch rubs her irritated eyes and goes inside to prepare for the next petitioner. Even when the bonfire threatens, desire is always stronger than fear.

The White Crisp*
I recently stumbled upon this new fragrance line by chance and must say, I am pleasantly surprised that the Brecourts are not bad parents at all.
Unfortunately, a little gremlin has crept into the pyramid. (Apicius!!)
It should actually say: Top: Chocolate, Heart: Chocolate, Base: Chocolate. And specifically white chocolate, the delicious one from Aldi, the one with the puffed rice crisp in it, the stuff that, when consumed in excess, turns your tongue into sandpaper.
Great inspirations: Bond So NY, Loukhoum Eau Poudrée but also Gres Ambre Cabochard. Gourmand, sweet, soft, cuddly, couch-potato-like, creamy, if not even milky and absolutely vanilla-like.

Nappo-lade, and the big Greens
I'm still drooling! And at first, it wasn't even clear what direction this thing would take.
Wow! As clear and simple as Harâm seems, this Brecourt creation is crazy. It starts off quite harmless, somewhat fresh yet not. You can sense that there’s more to it. Delicious already, but in a side-by-side comparison (Ambre Noir on the left, Harâm on the right), I initially preferred Harâm.
This little black beast has a lot going on beneath the surface. It drifts along harmlessly for a while, then suddenly reveals the woods lurking behind the scenes, which are still green, as my nose detects in the middle: green softness, fresh yet dark, so dark-fresh.
And again and again, this balsamic treat in the middle. Suddenly, I spontaneously crave a BIG green Nappo. But I don’t have one. The comparison to crispy (Louce, here it is again!) chocolate is good, but Nappo resonates better for me. The dark chocolate around the gooey, crunchy white core!! Rhombically good.
But that’s not the end of it. No, no, no, no, no. The bergamot woods dipped in chocolate come back into play. And over all the treetops hovers patchouli. Brecourt seems to be quite taken with this stuff. Harâm is also clearly equipped with it. And the description on the French site is too cute: the creators apparently associate patchouli with eroticism and a mysterious aura. All the goths will moan in horror, especially if they could smell this chocolatey patchouli.
Ambre Noir is a wicked sweetness, with edges and corners, slightly smoothed out so it doesn’t press too hard. Hmm, Hmm, Hmmmmmm! Delicious.

Chocolat Blanc
Lolita is right: with all the chocolatiness in Ambre Noir - this here is white chocolate! Not the brown, cocoa-like, certainly not the bittersweet one. While dark chocolate melts so beautifully softly in the mouth, with cocoa notes that sometimes still hint at their dry-oily-powdery origin, white chocolate has a completely different taste and texture. It tastes and feels more like hardened oil, solid butter, or frozen cream. That’s why DeGes image of the Nappo is so fitting: the very thin melting outer cocoa layer quickly gives way to the white, though hard, but simultaneously creamy-sweet interior of the puller from my youth.

Ambre Noir is therefore a very exciting gourmand. It is - yes, indeed - delicious, sensual, yet refined and, despite all its depth, also a bit weightless, and despite all its culinary strength, it is also very gentle. A very skillful smoky-sweet note in the background adds further stimulating dimensions. Finally, a Brecourt that exhibits a complexity where the contained fragrance notes can retain their individuality and do not drown in a dull uniformity.
The woods hold back their strength for me, as does the patchouli. Instead, the balsamic notes can fully play out their potential and contribute a creamy softness on which one can float. In my perception, the scent is light and bright, yet still very cozy.

One should not be misled by the strange opening: an unusually intense bitter-fresh note at the very beginning disappears quickly and makes way for this gentle and soft delicious scent that the Brecourts have managed to get just right.

Fluffy sweet and cotton-soft, a subtly spiced,

The sweet amber note has a distinct but not overpowering cumin sweat note added, giving the fragrance a certain twist.

Completely lulled, I fall into a soft dark amber-musk-vanilla bed. Getting up is out of the question! Very perfect, no edges.

Should this be "my" amber scent? Rarely have I smelled something that merges with my skin so intimately, warm-spicy like a part of me.

A lot of powdery amber in the style of the '80s. Le Madame de Moulin Rouge.

What a wonderful, soft, warm amber, slightly vanilla-sweet; I want to wrap myself in it. Unfortunately, it has weak sillage on my skin.
