Impoverished sister
Agaressence feels like a toned-down sister of Aoud Rose Petals by Montale. Since I was looking for an alternative to the expensive Montale, I decided to buy a full bottle of Agaressence, which is not a bad fragrance, but nothing out of the ordinary. Very, very sweet, girlish top-notes.
OUD or AGAR can now finally be reproduced by some new aromachemical element, which took quite a while to develop, but which seems to be ubiquitious at the moment. Hence the explosion of Oud-scents on the market. None of these scents contains any genuine "essence" of the rare and very precious (i.e. ultra-expensive) oud bark. Brecourt's Agaressence certainly uses the inexpensive new aromachemical. Staying-power is average.

Fruit Bomb
The funny thing is, I have never associated the perfume name with Aoud. The hint "Agar" referring to agarwood somehow escaped me. In fact, my brain always turned the perfume name into something like "Agrar" while reading it - and I have no idea why.

Even when applying the sample and taking the first sniff, there is no trace of Aoud. I actually like that, as I’m not fond of the bitter and pungent wood. Only when reading the other comments here does it click: Agar is supposed to be in here. Really? I quickly checked directly with Brecourt: indeed. This would then be the first Aoud fragrance that works for me.

I don’t find Agaressence as bad as my predecessors do. It is indeed a massive fruit bomb, but I don’t find it that flat or cheap.

The perfume starts off quite sour-fruity, and I briefly think of “L’Impératrice” by Dolce & Gabbana, which also has that grapefruit-like bright red fruit note, and I want to mentally pack Agaressence into the summer drawer. That’s when the scent starts to vehemently resist this categorization and lays all the fruity flamboyance on the table. The perfume now becomes deep dark red, voluminous, and intense. Patchouli is present, but so subtly in the background that it only provides hold and depth. Its own scent note is not given off. The sweetness in Agaressence is not sugary, but comes directly from the fruits. There is a bitterness opposing the sweetness, which also comes from the fruits, so the scent doesn’t become sticky, but simply dark. After a while, it becomes calmer, quieter, and more subtle, settling on a rather simple base. The longevity contributes to Agaressence quietly fading away. Without ever revealing anything Aoud-like.

Boring
Agaressence has a very nice fruity-sweet opening.
Although the blackcurrant liqueur comes through well, it doesn't smell too alcoholic.
I can smell a bit of rose, but I don't notice any oud either.

Unfortunately, this fragrance doesn't develop like some of the others from Brecourt. It remains fruity and sweet. Only the hint of patchouli prevents it from drifting too much into sweetness.
As a result, it becomes boring over time and is not an olfactory highlight.

Names are often just sound and smoke...
Agaressence, just the name made me drool as an Oud fan and I absolutely had to order a sample of it. I wanted to test it sooner rather than later, I was even close to making a blind purchase.
It only took a few days, and then it was here... However, the excitement quickly gave way to disappointment after applying the fragrance. What is this? A cloyingly sweet, pretentious scent hit me. Oud? Not a trace of it, just this sweet, definitely wasp-attracting smell of sugared blackcurrants, topped off with a splash of cheap liqueur and decorated with a few rose and patchouli leaves.
No, I can get that cheaper...

2011... yes, it was already totally in vogue, that Oudh. Aoud. Agaressence. Here... sweet, stuffy, annoying.

Red fruits blend into oriental flowers and woods - neither bad nor exciting.

Drives with the handbrake on. The pyramid sounds so nice. Neither oud nor spices. Just very sweet and fruity. What a pity.

Surprisingly beautiful, especially as it develops - it's very versatile and has a green fruity, herbaceous, aromatic softness with just a mild sweetness.

Dreamy fruity top note... and then... nothing more! What a shame.

Smells good, but somehow it lacks something special. Shallow fruity notes and sweet wood shavings, nothing more happens. A nice scent.

It starts so beautifully... plump, ripe, red fruits, gorgeous rose, gentle oud, and delicate wood.
After a short time, it’s all gone, what a shame.

Very sweet and very fruity. The feminine classification fits perfectly. It was still worth a blind test for me ;)

"Wood, but not Oud", herb-sweet, floriental, back to the 90s -> never wear to a dinner invitation, a headache is guaranteed.

Sugar berries + lots of plums + saffron + wood sticks = sweet mainstream oriental. I can't detect the named agarwood here.
