The mint you must know!
First of all, this is a great patchouli scent. Second of all, this is also a great (if not the best) mint fragrance. It's a charming fragrance with quality materials.
Cartier is one of the best designer houses out there and one of the few independent ones. They've released great fragrances over the years and this is an excellent example of it, but, unfortunately, is already discontinued.
There's not many good mint based fragrances out there. It's not a easy note to work because of the toothpaste associations. One great example of a good mint based scent is Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Herba Fresca (a good but weird scent, combining green tea with curly mint) and Heeley's Menthe Fraiche (which sits in the same ballpark) but that's it. We also have Le Male (but it's more about lavender and vanilla with mint as a support note, mainly in the opening).
The genius Mathilde Laurent (who had created Herba Fresca almost 10 years before) tried to create another mint based fragrance but with a different direction, which was the patchouli-mint combo. I think she nailed it.
Roadster starts off with an authentic, strong and crisp mint note with some woody Vetiver undertones. Soon the earthiness of the patchouli gets bigger and with the herbal aspects of the mint, create a very alluring, rich, fresh, woody, masculine and distictive smell. As it dries down, the vanilla appears but never cloying or in the front. Just there to round the composition and make it a bit modern and alluring.
The fragrance it's a bit linear but very well done and always interesting and captivating. In fact, the sillage of this thing is beautiful. Very present and enveloping. I would say that the smell is in the same ball park as L'instant de Guerlain, as far as vetiver-patchouli contemporary scents, although this one is mint driven with vanilla undertones instead of the citrus-anise-hibiscus combo.
Overall, a great mint fragrance that I recommend you seek for a bottle. A masterful work by Mathilde Laurent who has given us some fantastic fragrances such as L'Envol, Herba Fresca, Pamplelune and this one. Longevity is good (8h-12h) and it projects moderate with a great sillage. A must for mint lovers or anyone who wants to delve into Mint based scents
