Bel Respiro
This fragrance opens with a delicate floral note that is tender and sweet like the scent of a well-tended garden on a spring morning. I see lilac and hyacinth mixed with vegetal green notes, the accord is light, elegant and luxuriously clean. As the notes bloom on my skin, the accord becomes warmer and woodsier, as if changing from a spring to early summer. The floral notes vanish to be replaced by green tea. This note is still green and radiant, but it also contains touches of wood and anise. From this moment on the scent does not change until its disappearance.

A much improved version of Chanel No.19
While all the Chanel Les Exclusifs fragrances are outstanding in their own unique way, I find Bel Respiro to be the least memorable.

Perhaps it is the fact that green scents don't usually appeal to me, with Chanel No.19 being a scent that I truly despised and wished to forget. Bel Respiro although similar in style to No.19 is much nicer, more complex and a touch more floral.

While crisp, dewy and green, Bel Respiro reminds me of the smell of a fernery after a heavy downpour of rain. It has a delightful sense of watery greeness and subtle herbs.

There are some floral nuances throughout the composition that are more like wilted, soggy blooms rather than the bright, lively, overtly scented ones.

The leather features quite prominently during the heart and towards the drydown, however I don't find this note as nauseating as the leather clashing with the green notes in Chanel No.19.

Bel Respiro is the essence of Spring in a bottle, evoking the sense of a pretty sun-shower. Despite being marketed towards women, I find this fragrance equally wearable for men. The powdery aspect in the drydown is the only thing about Bel Respiro that I'd call feminine.

It's a fairly polite scent, in other words not as bold and daring as let's say Coromandel, No.22 and 31 Rue Cambon. However, with that being said, I find it to be a nice additive to the green floral category, one that I can tolerate and enjoy.

Bel Respiro
The mossy green note conjours up an english
garden in a early misty morning
smelling the wet orris ground sipping
earl gray tea the leather note conjours up
an mysterious lady who allways wear black
an icy couture an ireapporcible
goddess. this is an scent for a girl
who has an old soul refind and elegant
with an air of agatha christie or the
cold ellusive British Aristrocracy
stuffy like dust covered grand piano
or books of the 19th century.

A Unisex Dry Grass Chypre
Chanel BEL RESPIRO strikes me as an entirely unisex scent: very grassy with a touch of citrus in the opening and a comforting vetiver-like drydown. The leather here is very light, more of a garnish than a focus, I think.

BEL RESPIRO compares favorably with some drier, low oak moss chypres beloved to me, but with poorer staying power and lighter sillage. Since this Chanel creation costs considerably more than the grassy chypres in my collection, I'll probably stick to my old standards, which I can spray away with reckless abandon!

First subtly green, then gently sweet!
Dear readers....
this time there are no amusing anecdotes!

For no comment has yet been written about this fragrance;
the scent has not yet been deciphered by the Parfumos and "deflowered" by a comment.

And before I reconsider three more times whether I should tarnish the comment section with my unrefined half-knowledge
or rather discreetly backtrack,
I will simply bravely share my impressions, hoping that
the more experienced Parfumo noses won’t tear my head off.

The fragrance is named after an estate in Garches near Paris,
which was purchased by Gabrielle Chanel in 1920 to spend weekends there "à la campagne".
Respiro means breath/breathing space... and in a broader sense, respite/grace period.
It was probably a break from the breathtaking Paris that Mademoiselle Chanel hoped to find there.
It was also a symbol of having arrived, being established in a social class
where it was a matter of course to maintain a country estate outside of Paris
to receive friends and guests relatively casually.

Bel Respiro starts green and fresh, just as the aforementioned fragrance notes promise.
However, not with a bang, but with noble restraint and without smelling strongly of herbs.
I can’t detect any crushed leaves either,
as Chanel promises in the "Les Exclusifs" booklet.
Once I briefly had the impression that a bit of woodruff was hiding in the greenery.
Chanel and Monsieur Polge are certainly not forthcoming regarding the ingredients.
And so I think I smell a fragrance component that is referred to as green tea in current fragrances. (Although I find that green, Japanese tea smells quite different)
In addition, there seems to be orris root, which softens everything with a powdery touch and allows no sharpness in this green idyll
with a gentle breeze.
There is nothing, absolutely nothing, to smell from the leather.
The whole thing appears strangely ethereal in its shy subtlety,
less like a real garden in spring, but rather like the idea of a spring garden,
which has been olfactorily resurrected from the drawing board.
Then, as the green mist gently settles, a bouquet of flowers joins in,
the individual blossoms of which I cannot precisely identify, except for a single blue hyacinth,
which, however, starts blooming three gardens away.
There is, like in the Eau de Parfum of Cristalle, a fruity note; but no peach.
In my opinion, it is pear(?), which is slightly overripe, but remains as diffuse and weak in dosage as the hyacinth in the floral note. The whole thing remains quite fine and reserved, without punch, edges, or corners. In the development, the floral bouquet quickly takes over the scepter, the scent becomes slightly sweet and creamy, which personally doesn’t suit me as much.
In the base, it then becomes slightly soapy. But not unpleasantly soapy.
For it actually reminds me of the "Thé vert" soap from Roger et Gallet in combination with the soap from Mitsouko.
A delicate scent away from all the noise,...
but I have - as with the Eau de Cologne from this line, the suspicion,
that many lovers of a fresh, green direction - whether Chanel fans or not - will prefer the EdT of No.19 or the EdT of Cristalle (don’t hit me, but I don’t like the EdP!)
and especially Cristalle Eau Verte to the Exclusifs fragrance Bel Respiro.

It smells like a bouquet with the heads cut off: green, fresh stems. I like it! Wearable for both women AND men.

Grassy green & pollen, lifted by a silver musk cloud, finely dispersed; soapy, softly ambered. For skin & space. OK.

Unlike La Pausa, Bel Respiro is not feudal and elegant, but natural, created for leisure and vacation, and wearable without a dress code.

Sunspots peek through the already slightly discolored leaves. It smells warm-woody and powdery-green, almost a bit dusty.

Freshly cut, juicy grasses on a sunny terrace, warm woods, and somewhere not far away, wildflowers - a lovely summer scent.

Meadow flowers - fresh grass - sea: a soft, slightly powdery light green and yet casually elegant fragrance. The perfect signature scent!

Powdery-green-plant scent in the typically soft Chanel style. Leafy, stemmy, green-floral, grassy. Between Sea Energy & Eau de Campagne.
