Opulent Refined Leather
Now this is gorgeous and opens up with a creamy buttery ylang ylang followed by a very refined supple almost suede like leather.

As time passes you can smell jasmine, dry woods, iris all woven tightly together that the scent shimmers on your skin. Smell it one moment you get the leather, smell it again and you can smell the jasmine. It is a beautiful classy multifaceted fragrance.

Deep into the drydown after many hours I can even smell a soft and sensual animalic scent on my skin.

This scent lasted seven hours on my skin and the projection and sillage was decent.

I have to say this is one of the most luxurious and classy fragrances I have ever smelled. Bravo to Chanel this is just a beautiful refined gem of a scent. Big thumbs up!

Similar to Musc Ravageur .. old autobahn toilette smell
I know the Exclusif series and I am a big fan of Coromandel, I think it is in art form of perfume creation and just love to smell it both on a lady or on myself.

Today I went to the Chanel boutique to sample this exclusifs series and I liked Boy, Sycomore and of course Coromandel.

I tried the Cuir Russie for which I had big expectations, right from the flacon to the nose and I got a strong smell of dry pissoir, identical to the one from Musc Ravageur. Funny thing, I even see that Parfumo mentions Musc Ravageur as "loved by the ones who love Cuir Russie".

Maybe it is a nice smell, for the people who do not perceive this dry pissoir from the Autobahn scent.

very nice
The opening of this perfume is an open-handed slap of aldehydes and flowers in true Chanel style, reminding me very much of No. 5. The expected leather never arrives, however, because Cuir de Russie is a leathery scent, but not overly so. Once opened, the scent settles on a leathery yet not dry note, supported by floral/aldehyde notes that lighten it while leaving the animalic tone inherent in the olfactory profile intact. In the background of the composition, there remains a hint of smoke and resins that support the leather and make it more decisive, contrasting the lighter floral notes. The opening tends to be more feminine, while from the heart onwards, it becomes unisex, tending towards masculine; overall, truly beautiful and worthy of a bottle in a collection. Excellent longevity, with a contained sillage, especially after opening. Excellent perfume for spring and autumn; I don't find it too warm or too cold; I associate it with the transitional seasons. Beautiful!

Chanel's Russian Affair
"Cuir de Russie" has the classic opening of bergamot zest with light floral backdrop of the orange flower. Almost immediately comes a leathery-tobacco note, and one knows that this is not "just another floral" perfume. Tobacco is dry, without fruit or oiliness, which harmonises it well with the leather and birch. The name is in the pudding, as they say - Russian Leather almost never goes without the sappy woodiness of birch.
Did you know that the Russians, and other slavic people, collect birch "juice" (sap to be precise) in the early spring? It has a light lemony-sweet taste and makes a most refreshing and enjoyable drink. The care is taken not to take too much from the tree, as otherwise it will not have enough for its own awakening and growth. But I digress.
The florals step in tentatively, ylang-ylang powders over the leather, giving it a suede-like nuance, and jasmine supports bergamot, becoming crisp and refreshing, giving a pleasing accord of the white jasmine, rather than the oriental one.
Projection is not the strongest, and I would advise a somewhat indulgent spray application, to achieve a reasonable and pleasing scent bubble. Sillage will not be loud either, but the staying power is good, once the fragrance has settled on one's skin.
As a whole, "Cuir de Russie" is a beautifully composed and blended fragrance, with the olfactory notes weaved together seamless and smooth; they may not necessarily keep to their places in the pyramid, but that does not spoil the experience or makes it lesser in anyway. It is a perfectly unisex scent, as rose and orange blossom are barely detectable, and jasmine and ylang-ylang are very well balanced by the leather-wood-tobacco trio, which also creates a very light smokiness, adding depth and versatility.
"Cuir de Russie" is perfect for any time of the year and any setting, as mentioned earlier it is on a light side when it comes to projection, so generous spraying and re-application are perfectly alright. It lasts well as a skin scent and with time deepens and expends into resinous tones (which can feel sweeter in summer). I most certainly prefer it to Chanel No 5 as a fragrance of a modern, unapologetically unique and confident personality, unbothered about the fleeting trends and "cores", and ensuring that they leave their mark in this world on their terms and in their own time.

Creamy-soft leather with a subtly aggressive jasmine note
Lady of old nobility in the here and now. A bit out of time, arrogant, irritable, impatient with her staff. Just returned from the racetrack. Chanel suit, large hat, and sunglasses. Her butter-soft leather gloves, which she just held a bit too tightly, she carelessly drops onto a table. It’s probably best not to approach her today.
A softly creamy hint of leather, hand cream, and a bit of sweat gently wafts from the gloves.

Cuir de Russie (EdT) opens briefly with a spritz of bergamot and then transitions into a dreamily beautiful, creamy, and mandarin-like leather note. Since I haven't had much experience with this fragrance direction so far - falling prey to the misconception that leather scents would always reveal themselves to me as variations of Maggi - I now notice for the first time that in those scents that appeal to me, there is often an interplay of mandarin, birch or birch wood, and leather note, which then creates a wonderfully rich, not too clean, spicy creaminess overall. This is also the case with Cuir de Russie. However, the fragrance also has a very prominent, indolic jasmine note at its heart, which comes across as a bit too intense for me when I smell it at the spray point, while at arm's length it simultaneously radiates this beautiful leathery creaminess.
I have, however, become cautious with jasmine by now. The note is quite present for a long time on me. I can imagine that on a day when I might be stressed, annoyed, or angry, the fragrance could really get to me and I might condition myself to develop an aversion to it. I recently experienced how quickly that can happen with an impulse purchase that went straight back.
Beautiful, this Chanel... but this jasmine phase does instill a certain respect in me.
The fine leather "whiff" at arm's length is truly a dream.

After an hour, the jasmine is still present, giving off a subtly aggressive vibe.
The fragrance also comes across as a bit Chanel-aldehydic-soapy to me as it develops.

Conclusion: a very elegant, "clean" leather scent, which, due to the jasmine, definitely has a self-assured floral-animalic aspect. Based on my previous experiences that this particular note can also act as an unfavorable amplifier of negative moods for me, the purchase of the fragrance would ultimately be too risky. Here, I only speak for myself. Those who appreciate jasmine in fragrances will definitely find a very elegant perfume here that imparts a beautiful aura.

However, since the EdT is apparently supposed to be significantly less floral, I definitely want to test that as well, as I really liked the opening of the fragrance very much.

(with many thanks to Susan)

It smells like a honeyed church candle, especially the smell of smoke after the candle goes out! Very atmospheric, interesting bright wax

A soapy, white floral leather. One of the best leathers of all time. If you aren't scared of animalics, this turns pissy in the drydown.

An abstraction of leather in the classic French fashion, very polished and well blended. Cuir de Russie is unmistakably Chanel!

Very beautiful. Part of the jasmine is natural and you can smell it. Unfortunatly, mediocre performance

Kind of furry for a Chanel, but with the familiar floral-aldehyde blend. Great balance between rough and soft tones

Very nice leather scent with a soft floral and patchouli background. Not overly cloying or animalic like leather can be. Very safe wear!

I enjoy its beauty but I must confess I don't wear CdR as much as other of my leather perfumes. Something is missing, a glow, a surprise.

On me it simply did not last, even „Boy“ wears heavier. Good smell, awful performance.

Soapy ylang-ylang, with a little supple suede leather in the background. This is first and foremost a floral scent !
