Jasminum Sambac Chloé 2019

Yup, it's me - I don't like jasmine and I have it in my collection. This one is completely different than any jasmine perfumes I know. It's very elegant and will stay with you all day. I think that the whole Chloe Atelier line is really good and worth to try. Magnolia, Chedrus, Immortele and our pretty Jasminum are my TOP 4.

Jasminum Sambac is a lovely jasmine from the Chloé Atelier des Fleures collection, created by Louise Turner. All the floral fragrances in this line that comes in transparent pleated white-glass bottles have same characteristics. They are all essentially single note perfumes, “each with a unique signature rooted in the perfumer’s memory” according to Chloé. This caveat absolves them from producing an exact copy of the floral aroma. The main critique of this line is that many of them are indistinguishable for the average nose. This review was written for a 10 ml travel vial from a Chloé set.

This perfume relies on the perfumer’s memory of jasminum sambac flowers that she smelled in Bangkok. I can vouch that it is a good proxy for the jasminum sambac in my mother’s garden in India. The slight green nuance and a certain watery quality that exists in the flower are captured well in this perfume. There are no additional notes in this perfume, so it can get boring over time. However, it is a very clean and accurate jasmine that will not offend anyone.

The performance of Jasminum Sambac is very good on my skin. It lasts 4-6 hours with moderate projection. Because of the moderate projection, it becomes an intimate scent after four hours. It is fine to wear this at work, but it won’t get noticed if there are other stronger smells in the air.

In summary, this is a good choice if you are looking for a jasmine soliflore. I am unsure if I need a full bottle because of its monochromatic nature. It will not supplant my favorite favorite jasmine scents such as Dior Jasmine des Anges and Givenchy Desinvolte. However, Chloé Jasminum Sambac is a versatile and elegant floral fragrance. It is not a cheap perfume as even discounters sell a 50 ml bottle for over $100, bringing it closer to the Dior and the Givenchy. There is a five-perfume 10 ml travel set that contains Jasminum Sambac and other good fragrances from Chloe, which is a good starting point.

I have been really impressed with this collection from Chloe. So far I have Vanilla Planifolia (which I absolutely love), Jasmin Sambac, Ylang Cananga, Cedrus (the only one I’m unsure of) and I’m now awaiting Magnolia Alba & Herba Mimosa to complete all the scents I wanted from this collection. I find them very light, airy and feminine.

Jasmin Sambac has a beautiful, soft, freshness to it. It actually reminds me a bit of Angeli di Firenze by Santa Maria Novella, which is one of my favourite spring scents. This is softer and not as soapy, but overall this is a beautiful scent. I’m pleased to have it in my collection.

My favourites from this collection are Vanilla Planifolia and Ylang Changa, with Jasmin Sambac coming in 2nd. I have blind bought Herba Mimosa so hoping that it’s as good as the others.

This is the most beautiful realistic soft jasmine. So many other jasmines have a sharp fizzy feeling, but this one is soft and lovely. Very true to the jasmine we have in New Orleans.

It lasts a long time on me too. I put it on in the afternoon when I got it and could still smell it in the morning.

It immediately hits with the same walloping jasmine in Do Son Eau de Toilette. (Though, I wonder if that's only because I'm so familiar with Do Son. It's was my mom's scent for a long time, so it's super recognizable to me.)

After that initial jasmine flare, I get the greener facets. I know I sound repetitious, but similar to the other Atelier des Fleurs scents, this too is delicate and subtle. Surprisingly so, actually, since jasmine feels like one of the headiest floral scent profiles. The sparing touch makes it feel refreshing compared to other jasmine-forward designer fragrances.

For the person who finds designer or mall fragrances too "perfumey", this might be a pleasant alternative. It's like a familiar song, played on a low volume, filling in the background.
