I got you babe...
Apparently Creed VANISIA is worn by Cher of Sonny & Cher fame, who graced American televisions way back in the 1970s. Poor old Sonny passed away some years ago, and now Cher is left behind to do, well, to do whatever it is that aging pop performers do. It seems that many of them just keep performing. So let's hear it for Cher: "I got you babe.... I got you babe..."

Obviously, my fondness for Creed VANISIA has nothing to do with Cher Bono, and it is even possible that knowing that she wears this perfume might have deterred me from trying it--as silly as that may sound. Fortunately, I encountered VANISIA before finding out that it was Cher's signature scent.

I first reviewed VANISIA back in the midst of my Creed sample blitz, in which I endeavored to find out for myself whether Creed was a great perfume house or just a bunch of bunk and hype. Through my testing, and later acquisition of a number of bottles, I have obviously been won over to the pro-Creed camp. Creed perfumes smell great, and anyone who does not recognize this fact has either been sniffing fakes (which abound) or perhaps has ingested a nasal-passage transmogrifying volume of either BEYOND PARADISE or INSOLENCE.

Believe me, I the skeptic to question all skeptics, would have loved to join the ranks of the naysayers. But the facts are there, before my nose: Creed perfumes, on the whole, smell a hell of a lot better than designer perfumes and also than many of the newfangled niche "stuff" being produced today.

VANISIA is no exception to this rule. It's a strange composition, I'll grant you that. What exactly is it? The name makes it sound as though it's going to be a vanilla-centric fragrance--which it's not. What about the 'isia'? What is that supposed to mean or suggest? Iris? Well, there's none here. There is a nice dose of ambergris, so maybe that's the meaning of the 'is'. In any case, it doesn't matter. VANISIA is not sweet, not very flowery, and not very spicy. It offers a gorgeous layer of ambergris and sandalwood tinged with a modicum of rose and embellished with a touch of unsweetened vanilla.

Vanilla perfumes of every permutation abound. I know of no other perfume which smells anything like VANISIA, and every time I wear it I reconfirm my belief in the quality of Creed perfumes. This creation is subtle but seductive and substantial, as contradictory as all of that may seem. The longevity verges on pure perfume strength, and as VANISIA heats up on the skin, it just smells better and better...

"I got you babe!"

Beautiful Amber Vanilla

The ingredients in this eau de parfum are very exclusive. You really smell this. The combination Amber and Vanilla is delicious. It is stylish and elegant and you can wear it to chic occasions. Sometimes I wear it at home to enjoy the smell myself. It is also a comfort scent. I have been looking for a spicy vanilla scent for a long time and came to Vanisia. Highly recommended and one of the most beautiful scents of Creed.

Cat Pee? Never!
I didn't want to write a comment today. It's late or early and I'm tired, but this fragrance is tempting me to do so! Thank you Ergoproxy for the sample. And I must tell you, if your cat's pee smells like this, then I would adopt her immediately, because then she could pee on my skin and I wouldn't have to buy Vanisia. Unheard of savings! Does she like Whiskas?
Well, maybe it's also because I'm a Chypre lady and I like spicy scents, even though I can't quite categorize Vanisia on the first sniff. A brief citrusy start (no cat pee). But then jasmine and rose come in strong. Hallelujah! The heart note hits hard, and if you like close-to-the-skin, sensitive fragrances: hands off!
A proper thick, greasy whale vomit (and I mean that seriously!!) in the base. How can you imagine that? Amber smells oily and dark, almost greasy. Along with sweet and very heavy musk. Vanilla from the pod!
What a fragrance! I'm switching to the Creeds after Zeeta, the second one that blows me away!
Addendum: While searching for the prices of Vanisia, I received the following information:
Vanisia was launched for the first time in 1948 and created for the Spanish Queen Dona-Maria Christina of Spain. (Cat pee, pfft) Furthermore, Vanisia was one of Romy Schneider's favorite fragrances.

Grande Dame Romy Schneider (1938 - 1982)
This afternoon, I had the immense honor of testing "Vanisia" for the first time. Yes, I consciously speak of an "honor," because from the bottle of "Vanisia" emerges a Grande Dame par excellence. This perfume is neither for a gray wallflower nor does it suit a perfectly styled beauty blogger who willingly embraces every crazy fashion trend. It also does not fit a young girl who still needs to find her fragrance identity or a successful businesswoman who likes to use her elbows to climb higher on the career ladder. Instead, "Vanisia" is the ideal companion for a strong-willed, glamorous, seductive, and profound woman. "Vanisia" was the favorite perfume of Romy Schneider (1938 - 1982). Romy Schneider, an Austrian character actress, who in the German-speaking world was often unjustly reduced to the Sissi image she despised, was able to portray psychologically complex characters like no other in films such as "The Innocents with Dirty Hands" (1975). The perfume was released for the mass market some time after Schneider's death in 1987. I initially tried to explore the meaning of the name, and the only thing I could find was a Google translation. According to this, "Vanisia" means "vanity" in Maori. However, this meaning fatalistically misrepresents the true qualities of the scent. After a harsh citrus start (bergamot), the fragrance smells smoky, a bit dusty, mysterious, and enigmatic. The rose notes and flowers are light and in the background. After a while, "la Vanisia" calms down and becomes more vanilla-like, woody, and warm with each passing minute. It suddenly feels very inviting and luxurious to me. Even more: the longer you wait, the more inviting, warmer, and more seductive this fragrance becomes. You definitely have to give it time to reveal its true beauty. Due to the generously used sandalwood notes, "Vanisia" occasionally reminds me of "Samsara." Although I am not a "Creed" fan, this is a hidden treasure within the house. I will not buy "Vanisia" for now, but I will continue to cautiously circle around it like a cat around hot porridge and test it...

EDIT after further tests: Those who derive the name "Vanisia" from "vanilla" and expect a sweet gourmand like "La vie est belle," "Angel," or "Scandal" might be unpleasantly surprised here. "Vanisia" is beautiful, but as my predecessors have already noted, it is a not-sweet vanilla (similar to Guerlain's "Shalimar") that plays the leading role alongside amber and sandalwood.

Your Highness Incontinentia
I must confess that I have never tested a women's fragrance from this brand.

In my life, my luck in gambling has been rather modest, so I don't let myself be tempted to bet. But if I did, I would bet that the ingredient list is missing musk, civet, or even both!

Shortly after applying, the first thing that reached my olfactory cells was a piercing animalistic wave with a heavy dose of vanilla. I remember bergamot differently! Lovers of Vanisia, don't be mad, but the scent develops a urine note on me. More specifically, cat urine! Little kitty has peed in mommy's oriental potpourri bowl and then crawled under the buffet! I would spank her little cat butt, but she hisses and refuses to come out.

With the heart note, the urine smell doesn't get any better; instead, the entire fragrance becomes more floral and sweeter! Surely kitty isn't in the rose bed..? No, and behind the jasmine bush too! Did someone forget to clean the litter box? Only then do cats pee elsewhere! If I catch kitty, she will have to wear a cat diaper for the rest of her cat life!

With the base note, the urine smell subsides a bit, making way for even more vanilla, amber, and a little wood. Vanisia still doesn't want to smell really good. More like cat pee that one tries to cover up with a sweet room spray.

I must be fair! If it weren't for the pee note on my skin, I would like the scent. But as I smell with Vanisia, it must have been an incontinent noblewoman in the Rococo period who "scented."

What a shame! Oh yes, I've long forgiven kitty; in the end, she can't help it! Meow

Pleasantly intertwined vanilla with citrus.
Then the rose hits hard
and makes the scent feel 'old'.

In the sparkling aldehyde cabinet, a smoky-spicy vanilla kitten lounges on pomegranate-red rose velvet.
Warm vintage winter wonder.

A somewhat old-fashioned, floral powder scent with smoky vanilla. Very strong, very radiant, for a strong woman. Sexy and irresistible.

Version '87: Very "vintage" with a strong rose and creamy sandalwood with sweet vanilla. Pungent. Not in a good way.

Elegant - distant & spicy scent of rose & unsweetened vanilla. The oriental aspect of this fragrance doesn't quite resonate with me.
