As a fragrance quite nice, as a sandalwood fragrance a disappointment
I call some sandalwood oils from India (including Mysore), New Caledonia, Sri Lanka and Indonesia my own. In search of a good sandalwood fragrance, the sandalwood not only as a fixer, but as a dominant note, I came across this perfume at @StolzerOskar. A bottling had to make.
Right up front: I find the fragrance as a composition not bad. He is pleasantly portable.
However, the fragrance has not much to do with sandalwood in my opinion. The opinion expressed here again and again, that he smells like real and even high-quality sandalwood, I can absolutely not share. Indian sandalwood also smells quite different. But from the beginning.
From the bergamot in the top note I notice nothing at all, about which I'm not angry. "Indian Sandalwood" starts for me with a distinctive patchouli, but not too intrusive. So I find patchouli, which I dislike as a dominant note, quite pleasant. It blends in well.
Then the sandalwood should kick in. And that's where the disappointment begins for me. Why? Well, maybe I'll describe how I feel about real Indian sandalwood first. I put one on for comparison. It smells woody, buttery, a little creamy and slightly tart. Most sandalwood oils combine these four scent characteristics. I find the New Caledonian one to be slightly less acidic, which is why it is my favorite. However, it is also not, as with most sandalwoods, Santalum album, but Santalum austrocaledonicum. That only in the margin.
"Indian Sandelwood" on the other hand is also creamy. But that was it already at sandalwood properties. The buttery, woody and sour one looks here in vain. Instead, it is very sweet, a quality that real sandalwood oil completely lacks. Sandalwood oil is not sweet, but on the contrary - as already mentioned - slightly acidic. Sandalwood also has tremendous depth as a fragrance with many nuances like those mentioned. This perfume is also completely lacking.
All in all, "Indian Sandelwood" has not convinced me as a sandalwood fragrance. I have it nevertheless with 7/10 points rated, because it is a pleasant fragrance with good durability and sillage.
Last but not least: If someone knows a really good and authentic sandalwood fragrance, I am of course very grateful for tips.
