A little story about an underestimated newbie
2002. Not only do I tour the wave and gothic clubs, but I am always in the front line when support is needed for the organization of an event. In another commentary I reported on the "Our Darkness" party series, which was hosted by a good friend of mine. The Future-Pop-Combo VNV Nation was very hip at that time and the guys also played in clubs from time to time. This is also the case here on site. Mr. Pollito and I were present and got to know the two whom we were to meet again in a few weeks' time, together with the organizer and his partner, at their concert in Mainz on April 4. In Mainz, however, only the two of us were on site. Our friend apologized, because a concert on this day was simply not conceivable for him. The reason: the icon Frank Tovey had died at the lecture, one of his greatest heroes. So we both met the two boys, Mark and Ronan, alone. Ronan took me in his arms and inquired about our friend. I took a very pleasant, deliciously fresh but also tangy and spicy scent to him. At that time I was not as fragrance-crazy as I am today, also because of the somewhat oppressive situation, I naturally did not ask what he was wearing. I liked it anyway, as well as the following concert, even though I was always with our grieving friend in my thoughts. I myself saw Tovey live and could empathize with him, but not like him, who, 10 years older than me, had experienced a completely different time of this star of the scene.
About four weeks later. Mr. Pollito and I are on vacation in Spain, sniffing fragrances in a perfumery. As my partner already owned the brand's Desire fragrance at the time, which we both liked, he sprayed the then new X-Centric on himself. And poof - there were the pictures again. Mainz, concert Ronan. I told that to my sweetheart and of course he wanted the scent even more when a musician like Ronan is wearing it.
X-Centric is really a somewhat underestimated fragrance, I have to agree with the previous speakers. Even if not yet discontinued, this pleasantly spicy newcomer, which never gets too loud, could not really assert itself. But it also has the advantage that you can't smell it on every corner. It always balances citric freshness and woody spice pleasantly, without a lager taking the upper hand. The flowers in the heart and the amber notes in the base make it soft and supple without making it too sweet. From beginning to end he clearly takes a masculine direction. Yes, this mix of spices and musk-based woods, which also has a touch of animalism, also suited my Mr. Pollito very well. A fragrance, which by the way is very inexpensive and even today still passes for modern, at least for my little nose. You don't always need an Aventus for over 200 stones :)
