Generic woody scent
Indian Sandalwood had a high bar to reach since I really like Acqua di Parma's Sandalo EdP (black bottle). Unfortunately, it didn't come even close. There wasn't a whole lot of development of the scent after the initial citrusy opening. Indian Sandalwood dries down into what I can only describe as a subtle, generic woody scent. Nothing that induces me to buy a bottle. The longevity is also quite weak. I got around 4 hours. Yeah, I could get a faint whiff if I put nose to skin, but nothing more that I could enjoy or others could detect, even when close. Projection was about arms length for maybe about 30 minutes and then it became quite intimate. So, with the scent being only OK and lackluster performance, I'll pass.

Handle with care
I hadn't used a fragrance in a long long time. A bit of curiosity made me enter the perfumery during a fun day in de big city, and I noticed these beautiful bottles of Dunhill. So that's the signature line heh? They look so classy, heavy, nice cap too.

I smelled a couple of them and sprayed on the one that I liked best. It's a scent that clearly stood out. Warm, smooth incense, a bit boozy. Well that's different from what I was used to! After wearing it for a day I completely loved it and decided to buy the bottle.

Stoked as I was, I sprayed a couple of sprays. But now the sharp woody scent kicks in and becomes a bit overwhelming. Gone is the smoothness. So handle this one with care. Spray on a littlebit, from an armlength away, and you're good for a day of smelling terrific and classy.

What could have been, but sadly was not for me . . .
Dunhill Indian Sandalwood is quite the beautiful fragrance even if it is not made with real sandalwood. Just so creamy and warm with a what I consider a masculine and professional scent. I love the smell of this and the feel in the morning when I put it on prior to dressing for work. That said, I do not love how weak the longevity is. I wear it to the office, I don't need to project much more than the few feet around me and really don't want great sillage either. No worries as the projection is minimum for the time I spray it on for maybe the first hour and the their isn't any sillage to worry about. But my biggest gripe is that this is gone in three to maybe three and a half hours after spraying it. I am being generous with that time period too. Additionally, that is with around ten good sprays.

So in short, lovely scent with horrible longevity. Can't be that upset with this blind buy as it was only $53. I will search on for a sandalwood with staying power

Good performer, not my taste
Title says most of it. I found this to be a bit overwhelming, heavy and thick. For a somewhat similar basenote, I much prefer Explorer Platinum, though this has less of that green or some say dill than that. I found this punchy, in your face, harsh and nauseating. It lasts, and a little goes a long way. The wood character it has is deep and musty, almost like decaying wood to me. It is unique as far as I am aware.

As a fragrance quite nice, as a sandalwood scent a disappointment
I own several sandalwood oils from India (including Mysore), New Caledonia, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia. In search of a good sandalwood fragrance where sandalwood serves not just as a fixative but as a dominant note, I came across this perfume from @StolzerOskar. I had to get a sample.

Right off the bat: I find the scent as a composition not bad. It is pleasantly wearable.

However, in my opinion, the scent has little to do with sandalwood. I absolutely cannot share the repeatedly expressed opinion that it smells like real and even high-quality sandalwood. Even Indian sandalwood smells quite different. But let's start from the beginning.

I don't notice the bergamot in the top note at all, which I’m not upset about. "Indian Sandalwood" starts for me with a pronounced patchouli that is not too overpowering. I find patchouli, which I do not like as a dominant note, quite pleasant. It fits in well.

Then the sandalwood should come in. And that’s where my disappointment begins. Why? Well, maybe I should first describe how I perceive real Indian sandalwood. I applied some for comparison. It smells woody, buttery, a bit creamy, and slightly sour. Most sandalwood oils combine these four scent characteristics. I find the New Caledonian sandalwood to be a bit less sour, which is why it is my favorite. However, it is also not, like most sandalwoods, Santalum album, but rather Santalum austrocaledonicum. Just a side note.

"Indian Sandalwood," on the other hand, is indeed creamy. But that’s where the sandalwood characteristics end. The buttery, woody, and sour notes are nowhere to be found here. Instead, it is very sweet, a quality that real sandalwood oil completely lacks. Sandalwood oil is not sweet, but on the contrary - as mentioned before - slightly sour. Sandalwood also has an enormous depth as a scent with many nuances like the ones mentioned. This is also completely missing from this perfume.

All in all, "Indian Sandalwood" did not convince me as a sandalwood scent. I rated it 7/10 points nonetheless, as it is a pleasant fragrance with good longevity and sillage.

Last but not least: If anyone knows a really good and authentic sandalwood scent, I would be very grateful for tips.

Cloying opening with strong spices, patchouli and a buttery orris. The sandalwood is quite synthetic but gets creamy after some minutes.

I may be alone on this one, but after a while I kind of get a vanilla scent which is very nice.

Starts off boozy, rum raisins, very nice. Then dries down spicy, powdery, very inviting. One of my favorites in this signature collection.

The epitome of British conservatism: highly elegant fine wood, no frills, no hipsterism but an elder statesman in a tailored suit.

Pleasant patchouli scent with a fake sandalwood note. An undefinable note bothers me at first, but the base reconciles. Better than the generic stuff.

Soft creamy and slightly smoky sandalwood. Reminds me a bit of warm rice pudding with cinnamon and incense sticks. Sooo beautiful!

Warm, creamy, woody, and subtly earthy. An extremely natural scent where the sandalwood is beautifully integrated. Autumn signature!

At first, a hint of fresh vanilla, then mossy sandalwood cream with a nostalgic feel-good character. Very long-lasting and unisex - I like :)

Smells (almost only) of real sandalwood & feels high-quality, natural - if it weren't for this terrible mainstream synthetic wood in the background.
