The evening ...
or why the mainstream of that time is the real niche today. I wrestled with myself for a long time to see if it would make any sense at all to write a comment on a fragrance that had been discontinued for a long time. What good is it if I write a comment on a fragrance that is no longer available? Just for the sake of nostalgia? What would be the benefit for the readers? Nevertheless, I would like to write a few lines about Escada pour Homme. First of all, I have to say that this fragrance has only been in my collection for some time. This is solely due to the fact that some time ago I was tigering through the nearby town in the evening, actually with the aim of replenishing urgently needed shaving utensils in my regular perfumery. As a faithful wet razor you need a lot of accessories for a perfect shave. Shocked I had to find out that my perfumery will close soon, because according to the owner (a wonderful mature lady) the business is no longer worthwhile and it is now finally time to retire at the age of nearly seventy. That's all the more dramatic because I like these small owner-managed businesses and this in particular very much. Fortunately, I still had my usual shaving utensils in stock (usually the big chains fail here, or one is looked at with an expression of horror when asking for alum stones, shaving soap and badger hair brushes) and so I was able to refill my stock for the time being. After the obligatory conversation, the owner went briefly into the "cellar" (the perfumery is located in a half-timbered house from the 16th century) and immediately returned with a box full of older perfumes, which had recently been found while cleaning up the storerooms. I couldn't believe my eyes because what I saw made my heart beat faster. A whole box of originally packaged fragrances that haven't been available for a long time. Unfortunately a lot was not to my taste, but luckily two original packed 50ml bottles of Escada pour Homme were still available (and the whole thing at a more than fair "sell-out price"). But now back to Escada pour Homme. Now that the heat has clearly subsided and the evenings were pleasantly fresh, I had to test the Escada directly.
Escada pour Homme opens extremely alcoholic with strong notes of cognac, which is truly not everyone's taste, because I was disappointed at first and the fear that the fragrance was tilted was suddenly present. Now I have nothing against a sip of cognac but I want to smell penetratingly after it now also not. Fortunately, after about ten minutes I noticed how lemon, bergamot and orange mixed with the cognac and gave the whole thing a pretty tangy fruity twist. I find it particularly nice that the sweetness of the fruit or the oil was not discussed here, but rather the feeling of freshly torn zest was combined with the cognac. One could also describe the impression as a tippy citrus fruit. After about thirty minutes, the spice cabinet gradually begins to open, whereby here not a single spice but rather a kind of warm spicy "bouquet garnini" spreads its aroma. The tipsy citrus fruits are grounded and dimmed to a tolerable level. Associations of autumnal aromas spread and the radiant notes of cognac, citrus fruits and spices warm you from the inside out. But the actually best part takes place with the beginning of the base note, because here sandalwood and spicy vanilla fire from all pipes and give the fragrance a completely new impression. The citrus notes are completely sparkling in favour of sandalwood, vanilla and spices, giving the fragrance a more woody and slightly tobacco aroma, which then lingers on the skin for an eternity. Escada pour Homme is, according to my impressions, an absolute autumn fragrance that not only captures October with its golden colour, but also presents the golden October in a wonderfully unagitated olfactory way through the composition of the fragrances. With the exception of the five-minute cognac bomb at the beginning, the fragrance is extremely warm and polished.
From my inner eye I imagine a well dressed man on an autumn walk in the city park, bright foliage lies on the paths and the sun bathes everything in warm light. The fragrance radiates a calm and serenity, it does not demand courage or courage from the wearer except for the beginning, it wraps itself around him like a fine cashmere scarf, everything seems extremely flowing and balanced. I will now take great care of my two flacons and use the fragrance primarily for my own enjoyment, preferably on cool evenings, whether alone or in pairs.
