True gem!
Another peculiar, distinctive and quite appealing forgotten mainstream gem. The opening of Magnetism says it all already; a bittersweet, wine-ish, syrupy fruity accord, but with a peculiar sort of abstract, translucid texture, shiny and slightly “outdatedly modern” like the box itself (not sure when it was the last time I saw a holographic packaging...); something like grapefruit basically, posed on a balmy, velvety base of black suede, nutty notes, amber, vanilla, incense and clean, creamy, powdery notes (of violet?). Overall it’s quite on the sweet side, but also dark, weirdly “gothic” almost. Quite nondescript if you ask me, in a totally positive meaning: you definitely get Almairac’s taste for “softness” and his ability to make powdery-creamy notes play with darker-bitter ones, colouring them here with a red-violet-black palette. Magnetism can be defined as a powdery- ambery-balmy-fruity Oriental, but what’s fascinating is how it changes its look; you sniff it once, and it smells playful, sweet, fruity and velvety; you smell it again, and it appears dark, drier, austere, a contemporary gothic. With a carnal vein of wine coming and going. The balmy-woody notes are deep and pleasant: discreet, nutty, much aromatic and slightly spicy-medicinal – a bit “Coca Cola”, shortly. This woody-nutty-medicinal-ambery axe may make you think of early M7; even if Magnetism is overall completely different, I think they share a common ground to this extent. The wine feel may instead remind you of several Frapin scents, and if you’re a fan of that brand, chances are you’ll like this. The drydown is gentle and more focused on amber, vanilla, balmy-cashmere woods with a hint of powderiness. Really peculiar, classy, distinctive. Just a slight tad tacky perhaps, but... who cares for once. It’s creative and smells great: give it a chance!

Zoot Woman – It’s Automatic

Magnetism opens like a fizzy grape soda. It is a blend of strong Iso E Super manifested by pepper and sparkling cedar, and supported by Guaiac wood. The saffron is perfectly harmonized with strong woody nature of Magnetism. In the background, I can sense some leathery undertones, giving this composition dark and mysterious vibes. The balsamic base is composed of resinous Tolu, soft but comforting amber and pale vanilla. A real sexy, dark, vibrant clubbing fragrance. Perfectly named and perfectly matched to its bottle.
Magnetism is an example of carefully tweaked saffron/woody/leathery fragrance. A perfume structure almost depleted in the designer section today, but very often found in houses like Montale.

This must have been a gamechanger when it came out...
Magnetism for Men is distinctive and very fresh with quite some sweetness. After the grape-inspired opening the heart and drydown somehow gives off a slightly powdery, fizzy "wine and cola" vibe that is really hard to explain - because it's really not similar to anything else I've tried. Leather, woods and amber mixed with pepper and saffron makes it somehow lean vaguely oriental. Fruity, suave and really unique - and I suspect it could smell truly delicious on women as well. I imagine it would be perfect for younger guys, especially when clubbing or in other informal and playful settings. Projection is good - do not overspray - and longevity is pretty outstanding with easily 8 hours+.

Truly one of a kind!

Strong and medicinal
I had heard and read so many rave reviews from both men and women regarding Magnetism for Men. So when I saw this fragrance selling rather cheaply in a chemist the other day, I immediately tested it on both my skin and a tester card believing that I would be walking out the door with a purchase.

Unfortunately, (I must be the first woman to say this), I didn't like it. Magnetism for Men, was in my opinion, far too sweet and strong.

I like sweet scents on myself, however on a man it just doesn't seem right. Magnetism for Men, opens with an overly sweetened smell of glace cherries, which somehow smells medicinal to my nose, like that cherry flavoured cough syrup I used to take as a child.

The leather note is not strong enough in my opinion and it tends to be rather synthetic and rubbery. The scent, although unique, has been composed in such a strange manner.

I do agree that this fragrance is dark and in some ways sensual, however it is not my idea of a sexy scent. I would have liked to have seen more spiciness and richer woodsy notes.

The lasting power is very good, very lasting on the skin. And as you may have guessed, the sillage is extra strong. The only thing I can manage to say in conclusion to testing Magnetism for Men, is that you really should test before you buy.

Unique in its own bizarre way
Unlike most reviewers who rave about this one, I didn't wear it back when it was readily available, so I have no nostalgic attachment and emotional bias towards it.

This is an unusual blend of mostly dark berries and a little bit of fountain pen ink. It has a very warm woody base that's slightly powdery. A mature fragrance for sure, but not my type.

Magnetism For Men is unique in its own bizarre way. If you fell in love with it before it got discontinued, there isn't much out there that's similar. John Varvatos OG comes to mind, only because of the dark fruits up top, but Magnetism isn't as sweet.

Projection is moderate at best, but longevity is good.

Masculinity Level: Travolta in Get Shorty.

The best thing this scent has going for it is it's unicorn status. To my nose this is Coca Cola through and through. It's ok: 6/10.

Either Tolu Balm or Amber comes off too piercing in this one for me. It's okay but I don't love it.

A very good spicy oriental. A powdery opening and a sweet and cozy drydown. Nothing crazy but very solid release. 3/5

Poured into the powder box Cherry-Coke, stirred and used as a mask. Long-lasting, balsamic, and creamy. A big hit from Escada.

Reminds me of dark berry soda, beautifully sparkling and spicy. Absolutely unisex. Why was this discontinued? Great scent!
