Cherry in Japan Escada 2022

Well, maybe this doesn't smell exactly the same as Escada Cherry in the Air from 2013 or Britney Spears Fantasy in Bloom, but it gives me the exact same vibe. From what I remember, it might be a tad fresher than Cherry in the Air though. Cherry in Japan starts out quite shampoo-ish with clean florals and an unlisted green note. But the cherry and cherry blossom quickly kick in and become the central notes. Later the tonka bean shows up, and really, they could have called it a marshmallow note, just like in Cherry in the Air. It smells sweet, fluffy and kind of dense and powdery, just like a marshmallow. The spicier facets of tonka are not showcased at all here.

I find this okay, but a little boring and weak. To me, Escada summer editions are at their best when they smell like a tropical fruit cocktail. Everytime they go for something more floral, I'm not impressed.
It's a harmless spring scent, nothing more, nothing less.

Cherry in Japan starts out sweet and heavy. Not only do I smell cherry, but it also smells of berries. It stays heavy and sweet for about 3 hours, after that this fragrance tones it down to a pleasant cherry blossom and jasmine combination. The heavy start is honestly too cloying for me on hot summer days, so I'd prefer to wear Cherry in Japan in spring.

While it smells very pleasant once the heaviness fades away, I still miss a little something. It smells a little one-dimensional, almost focussing solely on the smell of cherries. Of course, this should not come as a surprise. However, it could have used a bit more notes to give it that little something extra! Now, it's almost generic smelling if not for the top stage of heavy sweetness. I don't smell the tonka bean at all, and it could have used some vanilla in the dry down. And perhaps another flower note?

But alas, the purpose of this fragrance is to smell like cherries. Which it does. So it does what it's supposed to do. I enjoy wearing Cherry in Japan, however I can also see myself getting bored with it.

Either there were still a lot of cherries left from the 2021 fragrance, so they were quickly packed into the 2022 fragrance and in the end a little bit of Cherry in the Air was added, or an absolute cherry lover, who never wants to do without cherries, was at work. The joy during the eagerly anticipated first sniff was accordingly absent - nothing new! For the 2022 fragrance, I - at least - will not spend a tired cent. Where have the delicious fragrances gone that brought joy year after year? It's a shame, but hope dies last, as they say. Maybe next year, maybe then a gourmand fragrance once again... Taj Sunset. Maybe!

I don’t know if it’s because I am extremely sensitive to smells, but this scent gives me headaches. At first, I was excited and only caught a whiff of the delicious cherries. However, that changed when only the jasmine remained. On me, it just smells musty and bitter, and I can only think of old vanilla on a 40-degree hot summer day. I will test it again in winter, but for now, I wouldn’t buy it again.

This Eau de Toilette from "Escada - Cherry in Japan" was a blind buy that I absolutely do not regret.
Since I really enjoy cherry in perfumes, I was quite sure that I would like it... and that’s exactly how it turned out :)
Sweet fruity cherry that makes you feel good. For 20 euros, it's a real bargain.
