Dark woody Patchouli
My Love Has the Colour of the Night is by Sophie Labbe, and a highlight for me of the Floraïku discovery set.

Predominantly a beautiful Patchouli, with Guaiac, Vetiver & Cedar.
Reminiscent of Hwyl by Aesop.
A dark, earthy and woodsy scent, perfect for rainy days and introspection.

It's a rare reach for me, but I love my little travel sized bottle for the days when I'm in a particular mood. I think the price point on full size is a bit preposterous given their simplicity, but the packaging is stunning, and the materials are high quality.

Return to Old Heights?
Unease is slowly creeping in. I have received eleven Floraïkus (thank you very much!) from Verbena and ‘My Love Has the Colour of the Night’… ugh… ‘MLHtCotN’… another ugh… let’s just call it ‘MyLo’… marks exactly the middle; as a business economist from accounting, I proceeded alphabetically. Did Floraïku shoot its powder too generously at the very beginning with ‘Between Two Trees’? None of the four subsequent candidates reached a similar altitude.

Now number six:

Dark patchouli, with a hint of spice behind it. Involuntarily, I think from afar of the Eugenol-bomb Vetivert by Angela Flanders. Not in the sense of a twin, the English one is much spicier and stronger. Only in terms of approach. And even there, the vetiver had to earn its position as the main theme.

The previous Floraïkus were often somewhat more or less floating-dotted, sometimes almost ethereal, as if they were catering to Central European Japan clichés. Today, a bolder representative comes along. The aura of the opening phase can be described as downright dark. Hints of leather and tobacco have already been reported.

The darkness, however, fades away; within half an hour, the colleague takes it a bit easier. An increasingly stronger emphasis on the vetiver theme during this general retreat steers the entire habitus in a more classic direction. Citrusy splashes, likely related to the vetiver corner (and presumably ISO-enhanced), provide a portion of freshness. Rough-sour-thickened-malty-woody patchouli (presumably boosted with Cashmeran) underscores that this is by no means a suit fragrance. To stay in the metaphor, it’s at best suited for a tweed jacket. But that’s just fine!

An intriguing interplay of light and dark emerges, stable over many hours. This seems - in the sense of an interim conclusion - to be another characteristic of Floraïkus: olfactory rollercoaster rides, any kind of “tempo” is avoided. Otherwise, MyLo definitely occupies a special position in its relatively rustic nature.

Even as the woodiness increases and it shifts to the lighter side, there is always something spicy-fresh on top. And no hardware store - plus point! Moreover, the shift fits perfectly with the fundamental vetiver principle and makes it tempting to take a sniff of the woody-spicy-herbaceous mixture throughout the entire afternoon. Towards the evening, it even develops a scratchy-earthy-smoky twist, yet cheerfully accompanied by a certain freshness. Very nice.

Once again, without wanting to talk about fragrance twins, mentioning the Flanders vetivert naturally brings to mind the corresponding Guerlain classics as stylistically related alternatives - I just know the Flanders better.

Thus, I lack the imagination to see what sets Floraïku apart so much that I would want to shell out a round quarter of a thousand euros for it. Such feelings are (third interim conclusion) not an isolated case with this provider. Still a good fragrance.

Conclusion: Curve achieved, well done! Now you just need to get a handle on the sprawling names. And while you’re at it, maybe recalculate the series.

Harmony, Respect, Purity, Silence
We were sitting at the venerable Okunoin Temple on a sultry summer night. The centuries-old cedars protected our silence, the incense of epochs enveloped us. Moonlight comforted me, and the chirping of the crickets reminded me to stay in the here and now.

My Love Has the Colour of the Night is probably the most Japanese fragrance I know. It always reminds me of that profound endless moment.

The opening is herbaceous-spicy, before Guaiac and Patchouli merge into a smoky note that carries a hint of amber and leather.

A scent far from the mainstream, yet wearable and elegant.

A Fragrance Black as the Night
My Love Has the Colour of the Night was originally one of the fragrances that never interested me, but after a nice Parfumo member offered me a sample, I thought I’d give it a try, it could be interesting.

It’s been just over a week since I received the sample. I have tested My Love Has the Colour of the Night twice during this time, and somehow I was fascinated by the scent each time. My Love Has the Colour of the Night really smells like the night, a fragrance pitch-black and somehow also symbolic of the unknown in a dark night.

My Love Has the Colour of the Night actually has very few notes, which is not a bad thing here and fits very well. I can smell pepper, patchouli, and guaiac wood. The vetiver adds just a tiny green touch to it all. My Love Has the Colour of the Night has a certain fascination for me. It’s a fragrance that I will probably never buy a bottle of because I would never use it up, but at the same time, I always want to own a sample of My Love Has the Colour of the Night.

The name My Love Has the Colour of the Night might be somewhat inappropriately chosen. I don’t know if it’s necessarily a good thing for love to have the color of the night, or for someone to have this color. The scent is also not suitable for a romantic date or meeting, even though the name suggests this.

The longevity is good for me, with just under 9 hours and a moderate sillage always just under an arm's length and after a little over 6 hours, it’s very close to the skin.

Dark. Mysterious. Hypnotic.
Floraïku is one of my favorite perfume houses. The scents are minimalist, clear, and yet profound. They tell a story and almost always find their way into my heart.
My Love has the Colour of the Night is no exception - and yet it is different.
The opening is unusually dark for a Floraïku scent, strong and with a lot of pepper. I almost regret having sprayed it on my skin right away. But only for a moment, because this unusual start makes me want to smell it on my wrist again and again.
After a few minutes, woody notes, patchouli, and vetiver take over from the pepper. It smells like a forest. Not a bright, sunlit forest with berry bushes and young deciduous trees. It is a dark forest with old, moss-covered oaks, tall spruces, and firs that barely let any sunlight through. The ground is covered with leaves, needles, and weathered wood. Moisture and resinous smoke hang in the air. I love forest scents with this mystical atmosphere. They relax me immediately. But do I want to wear this scent as a perfume? I only need to think for a moment. Yes!
My Love has the Colour of the Night is perfect for rainy autumn days, balmy summer evenings, at the theater, during yoga, by the fireplace, on a date, for falling asleep, in melancholic moments at home alone... The scent actually fits almost always. But most importantly, it fits perfectly with me.

Initially smoky/spicy, this slightly challenging dark earthy-woody Winter fragrance is tempered by its dark green base. Male-oriented.

Woody scent with a light leather like aroma, spices in the beginning. Versatile yet interesting enough. Signature scent worthy for men.

Happening in the sawmill: dry-woody, dusty, as if sawdust is just flying around, no damp patch. Postmodern styling at its best!

Very dark, full-bodied, woody-spicy patchouli scent experience with bright lights; pleasantly profound and thus also mysterious.

Patchouli is airy and fluffy, combined with warm wood and refined with a touch of pepper. Not too dark, but lovely.

It has what it says, plus a dash of pepper in the nose. Smells a bit like "Jubilation XXV Man."
