WTF, Floris?!
… not another franchise, was my first reaction to "007". Floris is one of the oldest perfume houses in the world and now a cheap marketing gimmick? What's next, a Marvel series from Floris?
On the other hand, Floris was granted the status of royal court supplier as early as 1820. The list of public figures who have worn Floris fragrances is long. Among them is Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond, who mentioned the perfume house several times in his books. With a bit of goodwill, one can therefore also attest a certain legitimacy to Floris for dedicating a fragrance to the spy who acts "in the name of Her Majesty."
So Floris has created the fragrance "007," which is supposed to capture the character of James Bond in olfactory form. Honestly, that sentence pains me. How much easier it is for me to write that the fragrance is meant to embody a stylish, equally masculine gentleman who appreciates elegance and understatement.
The fragrance starts, not surprisingly, with fresh and citrusy notes that gain a special liveliness through a subtle spiciness. In the background, earthy tones resonate, adding depth to the opening of bergamot and orange.
In the heart, an elegant composition unfolds from warm woods and subtle floral accents. A successful balance between masculine strength and stylish lightness. Notes of lavender and violet give the fragrance a classic yet unobtrusive aura, while it is rounded off with the softness of sandalwood and cedarwood. A hint of pepper and nutmeg adds a certain spiciness to the whole.
The base notes ultimately ensure a long-lasting presence. Warm tones of amber and musk lend the fragrance a touch of elegance and strength. The scent remains close to the skin for hours, giving its wearer an aura of self-confidence and sophistication. I would wish for a bit more presence.
Floris "007" combines British tradition with a modern, cosmopolitan world. The fragrance is not overly bold, but still expressive enough to make an impression. As wearable as the scent is, the name remains unbearable for me - I do not want to wear a perfume in this price category with the name of a drugstore fragrance.
