Scary opening
I sprayed it on 3 hours ago and was quite shocked by the top. This is smoky and resinous yet green and balsamic. Smoke is more pitch black tar kind rather than frankincense if anyone is wondering. After 20-30 minutes it does settle down and you start getting galbanum, cedar, herbs and lavender. Unusual take on barbershop. Strictly for gentlemen and fans of old school classic heavy fougeres.

Don't let the opening scare you, pretty sure it was intentionally made and it backfires with most. Give it time and beautiful heart will show itself. Good idea to air yourself out a bit before you want to visit public spaces otherwise it will shock people.

An Amazing Fragrance
This fragrance reminds me of a description I heard of how David Bowie smelled to Will Butler of Arcade Fire:
"It smelled like if an ancient pine forest had a massive forest fire -- but like, a month ago. So you get the new growth of the grass and the moisture, but still, there's an undercurrent of pain. But also of smoke, so kind of like marshmallows...? It's powerful."
Bowie died before this fragrance was marketed by Floris, so that we can rule out this is what he was wearing. But the description could be for this. The opening is a huge release of several scents that is fair to call polarizing when reading comments on this fragrance.
It doesn't take too long for the smoky, green forest to come through. In its last stages, hours later, it can smell a bit creamy or like marshmallows, but the underlying greens and woodiness are there.
I use it on my skin. One spray to the chest just below the neck and one to my right wrist lasted 8ish hours with heavy sillage for the 1st couple of hours.
It was very pleasurable for me. I really got the feel of a well-crafted fragrance that had a lot of nuance and complexity.

This could never be unisex.
The sillage and longevity of this fragrance is unbelievable. It's a shame it is shockingly foul smelling. The opening made me nauseous, I couldn't wash it off at the time so had to continue wearing it for another hour (I had foolishly tested it in the crook of my elbow). The smell is reminiscent of old, putrid, liquifying plastic that has been set alight in a junk yard somewhere. It is revolting. During this long long long hour I waited for the heart notes and the top notes, even any of the base notes other than smoke to come through but it just got worse and worse. I'm a woman, but I am not averse to trying fragrances that are marketed towards men. This I could not stomach. I have had a shower, and washed and scrubbed the crook of my elbow until the skin was clearly upset. I can still smell something. God help me.

Inner Monologues on a Mimicry
A sample.
A fragrance that bears the name Vert Fougère
and is released by the British bourgeois label Floris…
“Such a thing will not enter my house!”, my 22-year-old student self bellows.
“Why did you even get a sample?”
- “No idea,” I reply,
“It was a nice exchange.
Don’t always be so hot-headed! Where would we be if everything always went according to your narrow-minded childlike ideas?”
Embarrassed silence.
- “See!
Relax! I’ll take a look. There.
The pyramid was interesting.”

Well then:
Sprayed on and chuckled.
(In these moments, by the way, everyone falls silent. That’s what makes perfumes so pleasant)

Sweet resin, light smoke, and ginger freshness
frolic around, initially accompanied by
bergamot,
on a vetiver base, which apparently cannot be one.
Fortunately, lavender outshines neroli.
Anyone thinking of soap here had a lovely childhood, as it doesn’t really get soapy; rather, a slightly woody note of fresh laundry comes into play.
Up close, the smoke returns, now accompanied by patchouli and feels slightly leathery to me.

What can I say?
Floris - since my experiences with "Elite (Eau de Toilette) | Floris," the epitome of reactionary clumsiness for me, has released a fragrance here that is neither green nor fougère and thus surprisingly gets a lot right.

Smugly, I scrutinize my 22-year-old student self:
“Well? What do we learn from this?”
Silence
“What have I been telling you for a quarter of a century?”
- “...Openness is rewarded”
- “And how many times have I told you that?”
- “But someone really needs to improve the name and design.”
- “Don’t change the subject. A hundred years ago, you wouldn’t have tested this in the store.”
- “Neither would you!”

That’s probably true.
And exactly for such discoveries, there is this wonderful network.

"That smells expensive"
Yes, I got to know this scent as a sample from Floris with my order of "Elite." I wouldn't say I was love at first sniff, but it was like imagining a hug from the British agent James Bond. I can't quite put into words why I like it so much. Let's start from the beginning.
It was about half a year ago when I received my package from Floris. The Elite was very positive for me, and the bottle, of course, was as high-quality as all other Floris fragrances. Now I looked at the included samples, and a certain "Vert Fougère" caught my eye. I took it and sprayed it on the back of my hand. I was somehow immediately smitten. Such beautiful elegance was something I definitely did not expect. The fresh citrus notes did come through, but I wouldn't really call this a citrus scent. It is so much more than that. Insanely complex and beautiful would probably be the simplest way to describe it. You can clearly recognize the English DNA, unmistakable. Right from the first sniff: It is a fougère scent. However, unlike I would have expected, vetiver is not listed as a note here. I could be mistaken, but I unmistakably perceive vetiver with patchouli and bergamot. And that consistently. I find the scent to be quite linear. No big surprises in the development, and I actually found that very positive. My girlfriend described it with the words "Hmm, that smells expensive," followed by "You can really wear that more often." A pleasant surprise for me; I wasn't aware that she actually quite likes fougère scents.

So what can I say in conclusion? I don't understand the rating here. For me, it is definitely one of the best scents from the house of Floris London.

Interesting, very green, can come across as pine. Less pleasant than creosote.

The overpowering tar/smoke scent in the beginning is definitely not for me, I had to wash it off after five minutes.

Lord William expects a lot from his butler:
- To shave his beard fresh and herbal
- To clean the earthy floor
- To smoke spices.*

It's not making it easy for me.
Sweet fruity, a hint of cannabis, dark leather.
And suddenly an incredible elegance.

Not very British: Combination of fougère with smoky and leathery notes, sourness (grapefruit), lavender, powdery. Bold? Rather too daring!

This scent can best be described as a blend of Beau de Jour and Strawanza.
It combines the best of both worlds.

Dark fougère from the forests of Avalon. Shadowy-spicy (Patchouli/Cedar) + simultaneously bright-fresh (Galbanum/Ginger), rounded off with a tarry-smoky finish.

Oh guys. It's really not bad at all. Very green, grassy, minty, herbal, long-lasting, fougere, modern fresh. But the bottle is just enough...
