Revitalizing and refreshing
According to the notes list, Tonkazure shares all but three elements of its formula with its sister fragrance Tonkapeach—peach and puff pastry in the latter is exchanged for blueberry and amber in the former, which also receives jasmine. Just for my tastes, these are upgrades.

There’s something refreshing about Tonkazure, like you just woke up on a national holiday with no work to go to and instead of the obligatory coffee you slowly sip on a cool blueberry smoothie in a cozy room with that book you’ve been meaning to read but haven’t gotten around to yet.

However, within an hour or so on my skin, it gets a bit weak, like a skin scent. With natural ingredients, I assume, that must be difficult to avoid.

Fruity, fresh, sweet, delectable but well-blended and not completely gourmand
The latest release from Pearlescent Parfums is Tonkazure, a vibrant, sweet, fruity blend involving a base of tonka but more noticeably opening ensemble of champagne, blueberry, and blackcurrant, a really enticing description that largely seems accurate. It’s fresh, with grapes and berries, dessert-like, and yet not too heavy, giving way to a floral heart, and pleasant balanced base. “Tonka” being in the name throws me off a little bit, as it has a bright, fruity, almost candied character, without much of the sharp/nutty/semi-sweet that I associated with tonka-named or tonka-forward scents. Overall, I love it; it’s my favorite release of the Pearlescent line and among my favorites of the combined Pearlescent/Gallagher catalogue.

Tonkazure is priced at $125 for 60ml, in a shift of the brand’s pricing to be closer to that of the sibling company Gallagher Fragrances. It’s sold via the house site and great boutiques like Perfumology, with samples available from both.

Unexpected Sauna Scent
My fragrance experience is actually surprisingly far from a sweet, floral gourmand.
In the top note, the scent is quite zesty and sharp in the nose - it definitely has a champagne effect. However, it doesn't come across as fruity or sweet to me, but rather fresh and herbaceous.
Once the top notes have faded a bit, Tonkazure reminds me one-to-one of the first gust of wind that comes from a heavily heated spruce sauna. Woody, slightly sour, and somewhat resinous-dry.
In the drydown, it becomes soft and the tonka comes through with a delicate sweetness.
Interesting fragrance experience, absolutely away from marketing and the notes that are listed.

Sparkling Champagne Meets Blueberry Compote
A table set with sweet blueberry compote as a side dish, and black currants are readily available as an accompaniment. Then, a toast is made with champagne. From afar, one perceives the luxurious facets of expensive perfumes worn by the guests.

One of the few perfumes in the Pearlescent Collection that somewhat justifies its price tag, as it smells very expensive.

The champagne provides a good base to blend with the blueberry compote. The result smells sparkling-fruity and, above all, intensely sweet.

The drydown can be overwhelming, and one is almost overwhelmed by the base notes, which are very prominent. Extrait de Parfum is aptly chosen here, as it lasts a long time and the sillage is also top-notch. If we look past the drydown, this perfume is extraordinarily good.

More reserved for specific scenarios and, due to its somewhat captivating strength, not necessarily a daily scent.

Fruity-sweet with an echo: sweet sweet sweet...
Perfumed sweetness, the pretty notes are hidden behind the sugar layer that blocks my view.

Family gathering, great-aunt Emma, already quite tipsy, is rambling at you with a wine breath. Annoying!

At first, unfortunately, it smells like citrus cleaner. But once that's gone, a very lovely gourmand blueberry emerges.

Bubbly floral fruity scent, warm-creamy & sweet yet refreshing and delicious without being gourmand. Blueberry tart with tonka cream.

Very sweet synthetic berries and sparkling champagne combine with roses and resinous earthy notes to create a very unique scent. It's too much for me.

A quick sniff of champagne, then blueberry/blackcurrant compote, sweet tonka - initially delicious, then overwhelming, dry iris, creamy flowers.

Damn, it's good! A really lovely fruity blueberry taking a champagne bath. After the bath, of course, a nice cream follows. Yum!

Sunset, 5-course dinner with a view of the picturesque Tuscany... Italy, wine, fruity dessert. Not for direct sniffing, sillage bomb!
