A more grown-up version of Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden
Ever since I've started my perfume journey, I've been searching for an exquisite, beautiful, fresh and uplifting green tea scent that lasts longer than an hour. Yves Rocher's interpretation lasted a good 30 minutes on my skin and Elizabeth Arden's interpretation had this green spicy aspect to it that I didn't vibe with well. Nest's interpretation was nice, but I felt the scent was clouded by other notes. During my trip to New York I got the chance to shop at an Armani designer store and try out Thé Yulong on a strip of paper. It was almost a blind-buy (because I hadn't tried it on my skin), but I knew right then and there I had to grab it.
Is it expensive? Yes and it's probably my most expensive perfume in my collection right now, but I really love it. I'm a sucker for minimalistic bottle designs and this one fits the bill perfectly. The square shape, the nice gold plaque and the black bottle cover (although I would've loved if it had been a bit heavier) are simple yet convey a luxurious look. I also loved the box in which it came. The sprayer had a bit more difficulty in spraying a mist, but overall it still sparays the perfume on.
As for the scent, it's exactly what I was searching for. A perfect balance between citrus, spice and tea. Fresh, exquisite and uplifting, I felt very put-together when I sprayed it on. At first, there's this nice blast of sweet juicy, fresh mandarin with a slight spicy undertone (nothing too overwhelming) and then the tea comes and takes you away on a nice refreshing trip. The flowers are never too overwhelming and they serve as support to the tea scent. I can't really differentiate the difference between green and black tea, but I can tell you I could smell a nice organic fresh accord. It's just exquisite. Everything ends up drying down to a lovely, slightly spicy scent with an undertone of tea. The drydown is different from the rest of the perfumes I have which was quite enjoyable to me.
Is it an expensive perfume? Yes it is. Is it the best tea scent out there? Maybe not, but to me it's a great addition to my collection and a perfume I will cherish for a long time until I stumble accidentally upon a better tea scent. Until then, I can check off tea fragrance from my list as for now, I have found one that checks all the boxes.
