a momentous walk
The Count of Artois, brother of Louis XVI, bet Marie-Antoinette during a walk that he could build a castle in less than ten weeks at a place called Bagatelle.
A real challenge in the 18th century!
The bet was made within 75 days!
From this folly springs, so incidentally, an enchanting flower garden in a magnificent landscape.
Of course, Jean-Paul Guerlain visited this place during his extensive "fragrance travels".
He didn't even have to look for a name for his new eau de parfum:
How could this creation be called anything other than "Jardins de Bagatelle"?
Thus, in 1983, an almost rhythmic fragrance was created that resembles a musical fantasy.
Romantic as a bouquet of feelings, fresh yet warm, lively and sensual!
A radiant green prelude, almost following the law of chypre fragrance: hesperides and aldehydes!
But how beautifully the violet fits in with its violet little face!
White bloomers also lend a great sensuality this time:
Here meet the warmth of the golden-faced jasmine, the magic of tuberose, the presence and majesty of the rose and the bewitching noble freshness of neroli.
And not to forget: the lily of the valley! This perky little flower should not be missing in any garden fragrance.
So it ranks itself, without paying much attention to the "noble company", fragrance-intensive among these white-flowered beauties! There you look well!
The actually so distinguished gardenia smiles friendly and ylang-ylang surrounds them all with fragrant tendril arms.
The round warm vanilla aftertaste also contains nuances of resins and woods. As always, patchouli unfolds golden brown and touching the senses.
"Welcome!" wants to call this garden fragrance!
"Jardins de Bagatelle" envelops its wearer with the flowing drape of an enchanting perfumed robe; reminiscent of the statues of the goddesses that could not be missing from any garden design!
Quite naturally is also the well-known Guerlain quality; about sillage and durability are actually hardly words to lose with this generation of fragrances.
I would like to close with a saying of Jean-Paul Guerlain:
"He who has never experienced the magic of a field of roses or jasmine at dawn does not know what perfume is."
He taught us in the most beautiful way what he already knew: how wonderful perfume can be!
