Here I am again, wanting to test a women's fragrance, at least since I saw that there’s a flanker of the wonderful Mon Guerlain. Well, I seem to be testing quite a few women’s fragrances anyway, that can’t be normal, can it?
And yet I’m struggling. STILL! One would think that after so many fragrances I would have gotten used to it by now,… but no…! Especially now in spring, when the weather is finally getting nicer and people are becoming more lively and venturing out of their apartments in droves… not to mention the distractions from pretty bipeds, who are also increasingly hanging around in the women’s sections. And in warm spring weather, I can’t sneak through the colorful and illuminated perfume aisles dressed completely in black like a secret agent, so I have to smell the fragrance “normally” among all the people, especially women (heaven help me…!).
Although “normal” of course isn’t so normal for others when they see me. I KNEW I shouldn’t go to the comic store on the same day and then test fragrances… because I was dressed in a way that couldn’t have been more conspicuous for ordinary mortals: normal jeans and shoes, that’s fine,… but of course I had a huge messenger bag with an even bigger Batman logo on it. And my T-shirt featured a design of Darth Vader watering a plant from which a Death Star plant grows… eyyyy how nerdy can one be???
And with flankers, I also try to describe possible differences to all of you here on Parfumo as precisely as possible, so I had to spray the new fragrance here as well as the regular Mon Guerlain on the other arm. … Well, at least spring has one advantage: At least guys don’t see me spraying a women’s fragrance, as they are busy inspecting the legs of the ladies, and I must say that I often find it difficult to concentrate on the fragrances myself *sigh*
But in the end, I managed to spray both fragrances, as I recently had a moment of luck despite my nerdy clothing and for almost two minutes, no lady was in the Guerlain section… but still, after spraying, I ran back to the men’s section like a madman, hm,… better safe than sorry…
The Fragrance:
The fragrance may initially remind you slightly of the regular Mon Guerlain, but it feels much more relaxed. I smell bergamot and jasmine and think that the bergamot stays fresh a bit longer here. While the regular Mon Guerlain soon starts to smell significantly heavier and thus more autumnal, this one first becomes a bit more floral. You begin to smell the lavender, which is slightly herbaceous but not really intense. The roses are also light, spreading a lovely, spring-like aura. However, what you smell most intensely, and in my opinion is the biggest difference from the regular Mon Guerlain, are the ylang-ylangs. You can smell them quite distinctly due to their heavier and more sultry scent, which, by the way, I often don’t like that much. However, the ylang-ylangs become a bit weaker over time.
Otherwise, it remains floral-sweet in the base, with vanilla adding a soft, mild note that is lighter compared to Mon Guerlain. And I believe you can somewhat smell the iris here, while in Mon Guerlain, the iris is hardly noticeable at all.
The Sillage and Longevity:
The projection is quite okay. It starts off weak but then becomes heavier or more intense and is easily detectable at a normal distance. But it’s not as strong as the regular Mon Guerlain!
Also, in terms of longevity, it lasts a bit less, which doesn’t mean much, as it is still easily detectable for eight to ten hours before it starts to fade.
The Bottle:
The octagonal bottle seems unchanged, except for the “Floral” inscription, of course. The bottle is still beautiful, high-quality, but somehow quite simple, as there are no special inscriptions or labels visible. The fragrance liquid is pink, which looks nice. The cap has a band with dotted patterns at the bottom, which together look like diamonds. I believe the color of this band is slightly darker than that of the regular Mon Guerlain, which was more golden. Otherwise, the cap is also transparent and hemispherical. A beautiful bottle.
So, that was the new Mon Guerlain. As expected, the fragrance turned out beautifully. It smells similar to Mon Guerlain but still has distinct differences (the Floral, as the name suggests, is significantly more floral. The regular Mon Guerlain, on the other hand, is heavier, sweeter, and powdery). Therefore, I wouldn’t call this one a twin of Mon Guerlain.
I think, as a pure spring fragrance, it can be used well, especially for going out, but of course also for everyday use. For summer, I would consider the fragrance too heavy, so ladies should look for something else for the summer. In autumn and winter, however, it can be used again :)
Overall, I find the fragrance, as I said, good. I just can’t get along with the sultry and somewhat peculiar-smelling ylang-ylangs, so I find the regular Mon Guerlain much better.
Oh yes,… since I have been disappointed by almost every major brand’s new flankers lately due to the extremely noticeable synthetic notes, I can say here about Guerlain that at least they continue to do everything right and their fragrances simply continue to smell wonderful or at least not bad, no matter how many 1000 fragrances Guerlain should release per year. I hope it stays that way!
Well… hmm… it must look strange when nerdy people engage with such fragrances instead of reaching for scents related to Star Wars or something (yes, I like Star Wars, and no, I don’t have a Star Wars fragrance!!!). But we are also great people and not freaks :D *sniff* So you can love us (especially ME!!! :DDD) too :DD
*sigh*
But no… then not… and I can’t even threaten to never test a fragrance here again, as you wouldn’t believe that anyway, and neither would I :D
