Warm and cozy
It's so exquisite, so elegant, totally my style. It smells like a soft, powdery wood with a delicate floral hint. Warm and cozy, it feels like a beige color - but not the soulless one. It feels like being wrapped in a soft cashmere blanket and floating away into a dream. It's like a dream in a bottle itself.

Where is the intrigue?
I am not intrigued. The name is misleading, and it bothers me. Sure, alright, I looked at the notes, so I should have expected this, so I won't complain about the name further. Besides, sometimes a scent can surprise you. I also had high hopes for rice milk coming through. It didn't surprise me, and the rice milk didn't show up. This is such a faint scent, it barely lasts and it clings very close to skin. You spray it on -- half an hour later, poof, it's gone! It's really just a faint neroli on a sandalwood-vanilla base. The price is simply outrageous. I feel like you can get this neroli-sandalwood-vanilla by the pound from any cheapie brand. I have smelled this smell before, many times. So there is definitely at least one very popular affordable perfume out there that smells very similar to this. No osmanthus, no white tea, no rice milk, no intrigue. Pity. I was hoping if not for the devil's intrigue, then at least for a creamy cozy scent... What bugs me the most is that you can smell how synthetic the sandalwood is in the dry-down, it's scratchy. Javanol, girl, this you? :D

I wouldn't be so angry if brands didn't try to peddle scents like this for over 300 Euro. This should cost 50 bucks, and I'm being very generous here.

I didn't want to love it… and lost
Devil’s Intrigue was a classic blind buy for me - completely without testing. I didn't know the scent at all beforehand and to be honest, the price had long deterred me, 75 ml for so many euros. I was actually convinced that this fragrance was not at all my type. Well… one can be mistaken.
But let's start from the very beginning. The presentation is - as is usually the case with Haute Fragrance Company - a true highlight. The heavy box feels incredibly high-quality and luxurious. Even when unpacking, you can tell: No one tried to cut corners here. The packaging is so beautiful that I simply couldn't bring myself to throw it away. The bottle also feels just as valuable: heavy glass, solid glass cap - simply gorgeous. A small note for anyone like me who likes to control their fragrance usage: Unfortunately, you can't see the fill level with a flashlight. I weighed my bottle right after unpacking. If anyone wants to calculate the remaining content later - just write to me.
But now to the most important part… How does Devil’s Intrigue smell to me? My bottle was allowed to settle for a few months. And I am firmly convinced that the wait was worth it. Some niche fragrances just need time to recover from their journey - this one definitely belongs to that category.
The opening starts with a beautiful osmanthus and white tea. Slightly bitter, yet soft and seductively sweet. Shortly thereafter, the sandalwood accord takes over. And what a one it is! Creamy, velvety, and beautifully cozy. Over time, the scent becomes warmer on my skin. Suddenly, I perceive a thick caramel note - even though it doesn't officially appear in the fragrance pyramid. To me, it feels like someone poured sandalwood, flowers, and vanilla over warm caramel sauce and frothed milk. The fragrance constantly develops new facets and surprises me again and again with nuances that I hadn't noticed before. That’s what makes great niche perfumes for me.
The longevity? Dangerously good. Two sprays are more than enough to accompany me all day.
By the way, I always chuckle a bit when I read that Devil’s Intrigue is “nothing special.” I sometimes wonder if we really wore the same fragrance. Or if the scent was perhaps tested right after shipping. Especially high-quality niche perfumes often change significantly after a few weeks of resting.
And then there’s of course the infamous label as an alleged escort scent. Honestly? I find this label quite unfortunate. Yes, the fragrance is incredibly sensual, confident, and sexy. But it is also elegant, creamy, and refined. It can seduce without being loud.
Devil’s Intrigue fully deserves its name. It is mysterious, warm, creamy, and incredibly fascinating. A fragrance full of contrasts that I want to rediscover again and again.

Not My Scent - Despite All the Enthusiasm
Unfortunately (or fortunately), I did not understand this fragrance at all. After reading so many enthusiastic reviews, I initially wanted to order it blindly, but then thought about it again and ordered a sample instead - and that was a very good idea.

The first spray - I did not like the fragrance at all - something old-fashioned and heavy. Tea is certainly present, but it conveys no freshness to me whatsoever. Combined with osmanthus, it creates a heavy, oily, tea-like, floral, earthy opening, completely without sweetness.

As it develops, sandalwood is added, which smells salty to me - and all of this does not make the composition any better for me. I waited a little longer to understand when the fragrance would fully unfold - perhaps I would then understand it and be able to appreciate all the enthusiastic reviews. But no, the miracle never happened.

The vanilla emerges a little, but it does just as little to save the composition as the woods (dry and wet, earthy). Perhaps this fragrance smells enchanting in certain weather conditions, but at this price I am not willing to find out when it might smell reasonably pleasant to me.

However, when I run my hand past my nose, I do understand why so many people are enthusiastic about its sillage - perhaps it comes across as feminine (but mature) and high-quality or status-conscious (little sweetness, lots of earthiness/woods and a complex, oily floral quality). Nevertheless, I cannot imagine wearing this fragrance myself at all.

I would only buy it after wearing it for a longer time or testing it extensively, or at least after trying it in a store - but definitely not blindly, despite all the enthusiastic reviews.

P.S. By the way, this fragrance vaguely reminds me of Amouage Guidance - and I do not understand or like that fragrance at all either.

Unfortunately no devil with missing intrigue
So much anticipated and so much read about this fragrance, I just wanted to inhale it on myself.
Barely applied, unfortunately disappointed. Where is the intrigue? just one of many similar ones already tried and smelled a dozen times. Sweet-floral and slightly citrusy-sparkling-tart in the dry down, but then this tartness remains on my skin until the evening. No further development...
Definitely test before buying, please. Luckily, I only have a small sample.
Definitely not a bottle worth having for me.

Not so devilish at all, what Mephisto has concocted here on Faust's behalf from orange blossom, cream, and a nearly fresh sweetness.

Froop Mango-Orange and Fanta. If you like sweet fruits, you’ll probably enjoy this little devil. Nice, but I expected something different.

The devil's greatest intrigue was to make people believe he smells beautifully floral, creamy, and a bit like rice milk.

The devil must have run out of material for intrigues. There's only enough left for a nice floral-sweet attempt, with a cream pot as the base.
