Takes me to a Happy Places

When I first watched the notes of this fragrance, I got instantly intrigued. The price is quite high, so I bought a decant. I received it the day I was heading for my summer holidays, so I took it with me. Once I smelled it, I was fascinated, and all week I used only this perfume. Naturally, now it reminds me of this vacation, the last before the Covid crisis. That's why I say that it takes me to happy places. You all know how perfumes awake memories, right?
Anyway, on the perfume. I didn't notice it before, and so today, I was quite shocked when I found out that this is marketed towards men. No way! This is completely unisex, if not feminine! No one should hesitate to wear this, I swear!
The perfume contains resins in the opening, and this is not that usual, from what I have experienced. It's a bit spicy and fresh, then sandalwood slowly creeps in. But to me, it's not lactonic in any way.
To be honest, it is not that easy for me to grab separate notes in this perfume. To my nose, it is just a perfect combination, perfect beauty.
On the skin, this scent is bright, but it also gets a little sweet. Where is this sweetness coming from? I have no idea, but it makes this scent feel positive and happy (I hope it's not only my good associations). These sweet and kindly leathery notes follow all day long, and even when you already forgot about this scent thorough the day, it suddenly sparks and reminds you of its existence.
The projection of this scent is moderate, it's not a beast mode. This makes it perfect for the summer.

A Safe Bet

Too many fragrances have yet to receive a 10 from me.
Usually, there's some note that stands out too much over time or the scent leans too heavily in one direction without maintaining a good balance, meaning too floral or too sweet, etc. So it's completely subjective.
However, if a fragrance is as well-balanced as this one and nothing bothers me about it, then it deserves a 10.
I can't write much about the scent itself other than that it smells soft and harmonious and is definitely unique. And of very high quality. This uniqueness probably comes from the orange tree, as I haven't discovered this in any other fragrance. I also imagine perceiving some saffron that might be hiding behind the term "spicy notes." The softness I mentioned is likely achieved through sandalwood and musk.
If a survey were conducted about this fragrance, I am sure most people would simply say it smells good. Or maybe it smells very good. Or even sooo good.
But not that it smells fruity or sweet or woody or masculine or sensual, etc.
It never becomes overwhelming. It's never too penetrating.
Or Noir shines through understatement.
It is always pleasant to perceive.
And it fits many occasions and complements, in my opinion, almost any outfit. Whether office, leisure, wedding, or black-tie event. With sporty clothing, casual, a bit dressier, or even a leather jacket. Even with a flannel shirt and jeans. Suitable for young and old, in any season, and absolutely unisex. A versatile weapon or an everyday go-to.
My definition of this fragrance is: It simply smells very good!
And that's why it also lands on my wish list. Because sometimes I just want to smell good.

Fell for the Hype

Or Noir piqued my interest because it was mentioned by a certain influencer, and the notes also appealed to me. Unfortunately, I can't verify the hype mentioned in Russia, as I'm not proficient in the language, but I'll just take the word of the aforementioned influencer at this point.

Unfortunately, Or Noir did not meet my expectations. The reason for this is simply its similarity to other well-known fragrances that are also significantly cheaper. Here I would mention "Rehab | Initio," "Spicebomb | Viktor & Rolf," and "Reflection Man | Amouage." I simply cannot ignore this similarity. The only difference is the leather note, which is noticeable in the base. However, that is just not enough uniqueness for me, and I don't particularly like this leather note. It simply doesn't come across well. I had the same issue with some Memo creations. Or Noir is a sweet spicy fragrance, just like many others, nothing more and nothing less.

My theory on why Or Noir will never experience a big hype: Or Noir fails to create a completely new direction like Aventus or Sauvage, which will embed itself in people's minds. Or Noir is a fragrance that will always lead a shadowy existence.

The price isn't that crazy in my opinion: Roja, Xerjoff, Tom Ford are priced at a similar level. Of course, it's not a bargain, but it's also not extreme, as it is with some Rojas.
The longevity is good and leaves nothing to be desired, but after 8-9 hours, Or Noir is no longer perceptible on my skin. The sillage is good and noticeable for 4-5 hours at arm's length, but becomes close to the skin after about 7 hours.

Unfortunately, I probably just expected too much and really fell for the hype.

The Next Aventus?

Okay, the title is a bit of a stretch, but HFC is currently being hyped in Russia like Creed was at the end of the 2010s here…

Or Noir has a bit of similarity to Reflection Man due to the orange tree, but Or Noir comes across as significantly spicier and darker.

The scent has something warm and calm about it… but then also something woody and spicy, though not as damp and in-your-face as Encre Noir, rather more refined and slightly creamy.

The longevity is really very good, and the sillage is not to be underestimated…
I’m curious to see where HFC's journey will lead…. Who knows, maybe in half a year everyone will be wearing this scent like once Aventus by Creed?
The first YouTubers have already reported on it; it seems that the house is becoming more and more known here in Europe week by week…
