Do the ladies wish to go out?
The first time I encountered Hermès "Calèche" was as a very young woman: A bottle of the original "Calèche" always stood on the mirror shelf above the sink.
I had never seen anything so elegant before. But that was no wonder, as my boss's wife, to whom it belonged, worked for a few hours a week as a saleswoman in one of Bubi Scholz's perfumeries.
She provided me with the wonderful Dior fragrances for which I was actually far too young.
So I admired the bottle, secretly enjoying the scent on my boss, but I never had the idea to try even the smallest bit of it; not even when I was completely alone in the office and no one was expected.
(This still falls under the category of "You don't do that!" for me, and therefore my last boss could leave his "personal/confidential" documents on his desk without worry: He knew they were taboo for me.)
However, I never had the courage to ask if I could try a few drops:
My shyness and the learned "being invisible" ran too deep.
I am sure he wouldn't have minded; perhaps he would have even appreciated my interest.
But I have never forgotten this first encounter; even without personal acquaintance.
A calèche is a light four-wheeled carriage with a folding top: For gentlemen, it was certainly driven with a four-horse team at a brisk trot, while for ladies it was more likely a two-horse team and, of course, with the top folded down: After all, the new artistic hats and playful parasols should be displayed during a leisurely ride, while greetings were exchanged with acquaintances who were themselves being observed.
The eternal feminine theme!
Jane Austen and later Georgette Heyer accompanied their protagonists on these outings.
Hermès original "Calèche" was surely drawn by four impressive horses, whereas "Calèche Eau Délicate" rolls along with a two-horse team under a wide summer sky, infused with aldehyde lights and ylang-ylang scent notes; both are skillfully intertwined.
How enchantingly alive these cheerful air games are before we reach the world of noble fragrant roses and the richly white jasmine with its animalistic sensuality.
The previously playful brightness transforms into a rich, mature feminine radiance full of allure.
But the carriage rolls on and naturally encounters the very special final spice of cedar and sandalwood.
How refined is this composition?
A few floral-bright air whirlwinds, a sensually fragrant flower garden, and finally a classic base of woody, spicy scent notes!
I wouldn't be surprised if Titania had a hand in it, to wrap Oberon around her once again.
Flower fairies surely linger in the scent world of "Calèche Eau Délicate."
You just have to pay attention to them.
A fine sillage and the corresponding longevity (too much would not be good here) make "Calèche Eau Délicate" a summer companion suitable for almost any occasion.
The house of Hermès has created with "Calèche Eau Délicate" a composition that embodies the classic elegance of this brand.
I am slowly coming to terms with this brand:
I love the classic "24, Faubourg," the well-known "Gardens" fragrances I have tested, and the newer scent masterpieces are all worth getting to know.
The scent compositions of the past century are very interesting, and thanks to the decants from some dear users here, I have already had scent samples in various concentrations under my nose and on my skin.
Many of them are surely worth another contribution, a closer look.
So: Let's embark on new scent worlds; this time into those of Hermès.
Shall we take the calèche for that?
