Bellemorte
Another Oud, then it's good... *sing*
I like Oud - really. Even as a stinker. Even with rose. I also own several Oud fragrances or fragrances that contain Oud. Still, there’s no feeling of anticipation anymore when a new Oud scent hits the market. The horse has been ridden to death.
From House of Matriarch, I’ve had two discovery packages under my nose by now, found some good/wearable, others not, but none were able to entice me to place an order - because even though Orca was really nice, the last spark was simply missing.
Overall, I was mildly curious (I just like to test) but had no great expectations for the scent.
Today, the sample of Bittersweet Symphony arrived, and I am thrilled - must-have-thrilled.
BS is an Oud fragrance of the moderately animalistic kind; there’s a bit of stable/animal next to the resinous wood, but subtle, not front and center. There’s also a rich but not piercing smoky or roasted note that melds very well with the bitter cocoa, together creating roasted cocoa bean. I have to think of those Creola pralines from Lindt *yummie*
The most fascinating thing about BS is a bright, clear, almost fresh note that is present right after spraying and then flashes briefly every now and then.
Overall, a nicely balanced, everyday-appropriate composition that stands out with a lovely sillage (a bit more than arm's length but not overwhelming) and good longevity (5 hours and still quite perceptible).
