At night, alone in the woods… one discovers all sorts of mysterious things!
Yes, my title says it all. However, I think it’s never a good idea to go into the woods alone, especially at night. Aside from potentially dangerous animals and other crazies, there’s always the risk of walking straight into trees :D
A forest already has a mysterious aura during the day for most people, but at night everything seems even more mysterious. Despite all the dangers, one would love to go in and discover things that one would never see otherwise. Alleged mythical creatures like unicorns, which are only known from the rare Ritter Sport packaging; pink cats with bushy fur and glowing eyes; fairies (in skimpy dresses, yes yes, that’s a must :D); Venus flytraps as big as cars that can eat people; chocolate that grows on trees or treasures like the Nazi gold that everyone is after.

Anyway, today I’m talking about the fragrance “Sacre Noir” by House of Matriarch, which means sacred black and reminds me of a dark, yet mysterious forest with its dark woodland notes.

The fragrance:
The fragrance begins with dark-scented woodland notes. Sure, it’s always difficult to imagine what a “dark forest” might smell like, but believe me, when you spray the fragrance, you’ll notice that it is indeed “dark.” In any case, it smells of wonderful, earthy, and green forest scents, mixed with lovely resins, primarily mastic, as well as woods, from which you can initially smell the juniper and cypress best. In the background, there’s a nice little sweetness; I don’t know where it comes from, but to me, it smells like a mix of amber, pink pepper, and the sweet parts of resinous notes like frankincense.
A little later, it still smells of the forest, but the fragrance becomes a bit woodier and resinous. Oud can now also be detected, which has been dosed quite well and, despite its strength, doesn’t really overshadow the other fragrance notes, where I hope it stays that way. Otherwise, there are still sweet fragrance notes that seem nice and fit well with the resinous notes like frankincense. Balsamic notes give the fragrance a softer impression, and general herbal scents, which are not further identifiable (but remind a bit of rosemary), enhance the feeling of being in a forest.
Much later, the resinous notes become significantly stronger, while the herbal and green scents lose intensity. The woody notes lose a bit of strength, and the oud remains basically the same, so it doesn’t become significantly more intense. The later base therefore smells more of frankincense and myrrh and similar resinous scents with a bit of sweetness and a warm aura.
I think Sacre Noir is quite a successful autumn fragrance!

The sillage and longevity:
The sillage is good, so it should be easy to smell on someone. You’re enveloped in a nice, but not very intrusive scent cloud (unless you overdo it with the dosage and spray yourself from head to toe!). The longevity is also quite good at just under ten hours.

The bottle:
The bottle is cylindrical and dark blue. At the top, it slightly angles upward. It is surrounded by a continuous, shiny gold label, on which, in addition to the name and brand, you can also see the logo and a pattern that looks like it could be the cover or a drawing from a Dan Brown book. The cap is cylindrical and gold-plated and also features the pattern from the label. A beautiful, slightly mysterious bottle.

So… that was Sacre Noir. If you’ve read in the statements that the fragrance smells like a forest, then that’s actually true, even if one might initially think of something ecclesiastical or generally religious with that name. The fragrance indeed smells like a wonderful combination of resins and herbal-green scents. Additionally, it has this “dark” aura, which makes one think of a nighttime forest (unless one has to think of sacred things like church or so on the side).

In terms of type, I think the fragrance belongs in autumn and winter and is equally suitable for both genders. It could be worn both in leisure time and in the evening (however, it’s not a club/dance fragrance :D). Or you could use it when having a role-playing night (yes yes,… I bet some are thinking of something naughty now, right? :D). I think I should also wear the fragrance when I’m playing an online game like The Elder Scrolls Online again and wandering through the forests in the game with my Khajiit character (… that’s a character of a… CAT RACE!!!! So typical of me, right? But hey, I also have an Orc character! But still, it’s so cool that there are cat races you can play in the game :D)

Anyway, the fragrance is highly recommended and smells different, provided you like resinous and woody scents. A test could definitely be worth it!

So, that brings me to the end again, and I wish you all a lovely evening :)

Heaven of Gods and Witch's Forest
Uncommented Scents No. 117

Thanks to the commendable aroma chemistry (no, I do not mean that ironically or derogatorily), pretty much every conceivable ingredient has become possible: concrete, wet asphalt, suede, ink, and cockroach juice.
Now we have golden apples (see the list of ingredients for this scent). I read this as an ironic reference to the educated bourgeois special knowledge, as golden apples are the favorite food of the Germanic gods (Aesir) in the heavenly realm of Asgard, granting eternal youth until the twilight of the gods. You can read about it or marvel at it on stage with Richard Wagner (The Ring of the Nibelung). You can't smell anything there.

What is really clearly recognizable, however, are needle resin or sap, and it is less that of spruce, fir, or pine, but rather that with softer needles (probably referring to evergreen plants here (yew? Thuja? I would need to do the test of rubbing the needles between my fingers, as the extremely green-sappy scent contained here seems familiar to me, and I suspect you know what I mean).

Once this truly amusing top note has faded a bit, a herbal, still very green, but slightly spicier note as well as resinous tones emerge in the heart note. One could say that the scent goes through various stages of green tones. Unlike many fragrances that initially foreground bright, white, or yellow tones (bergamot, lemon, lavender), then become more floral (red roses, white flowers), and then transition to warm tones (amber, moss, tonka, labdanum), this scent remains consistently cool green. In these many layers and facets, it is indeed original and fascinating.

In the base, the resinous-green tones (moss and resins, forest floor, yes, you can actually smell that here) intensify and condense without veering into the warm, oriental direction we are accustomed to from oud, amber, or civet scents.
In other words: At first, we pass by hedges and low-growing forest edge shrubs, penetrate deeper into the forest, and perceive berries, pine resin, crushed needles, and green saps, and then we find ourselves in the deep, dark green forest, where only the forest floor and black-green resins are perceivable. It gets dark, and we should quickly make our way back.

From beginning to end, there is a feeling of a forest walk, where one encounters one or another green, can breathe in the fresh air deeply, and wishes to stride home invigorated, if one can find their way out of this mystically green, intoxicating witch's forest.

This evokes the herbaceous green of a primordial forest. Deep and complex, rich with woody resins, spice and freshness. A beautiful scent.

Incense mist in the coniferous forest.
Nothing is visible anymore.
The path outside is arduous,
past junipers and resins.

Fruity-bitter resins, marked by mastic and green. A cool-plant aura, quite linear yet also multifaceted. Gradually more herbal infusion.

It shimmers and shines from light to dark green. I actually wanted to like it more, but it's too much and too overwhelming for me.

Deep dark fairy tale forest. Crackling silence. Earth, moss, and needles. Beings. No elves, no gnomes. A giant tree spirit on the path.
