As a mushroom nerd, I have long wanted to test a fragrance that smells of mushrooms, among other things. This mysterious, partly still quite unexplored species (by the way, mushrooms are more closely related to the animal kingdom than to the plant kingdom) fascinates me. I know a few varieties and have been an enthusiastic collector since childhood. (With the prospect of a few porcini mushrooms, I suddenly climb steep inclines of 85 percent effortlessly...) During my work as a goldsmith, I made molds of some specimens and cast them in silver, which looked incredibly beautiful due to the lamellar pattern. Anyway, the scent "mushroom" does not exist as such. Some smell like flour. Others like anise. Some are floral, while others stink of carrion.
Of course, there are also those "intoxicants" that transport the spirit to other realms, alter perception, and can induce hallucinations. Such "trips" only interest me theoretically.
What I wished for as a child, surely inspired by "The NeverEnding Story" and the Czech series "Arabella, the Fairy Tale Bride," was to discover a door to a fairy tale land, just like the main characters. To experience wonderful adventures there and, of course, to return home with a magical ring, a magic flower, or something equally useful and cause a stir. Well. What can I say? This morning, this little bottle suddenly appeared at my door. And judging by the ingredients, it seems to be a real witch's brew. The bottle says "Forbidden." And since such bottles are always opened in fairy tales, I will do the same now.
Attention... Open and spray!
Ah, here it comes, this shady seducer tuberose. (If this scent note were a person, I wouldn’t buy a used car from her!) When she is present in the perfume, she does not shy away from making an entrance. Here, however, she enters the stage quite gently and enchantingly. Light, like delicately flowing dark pink silk. Nestled on woods and the scent of sun-warmed, clayey earth, which can also be directly perceived.
Wrapped in light, dark leather, she appears - or should I rather say snake skin? She smiles dark-honey sweet and holds a glass of absinthe in her hand, with a distinctly noticeable greenish-bitter aroma that, however, typical of spirits, soon evaporates a bit. The glass of rum is already empty, and she appears quite tipsy overall.
The entire fragrance experience has a very warm, relaxing character. Lean back, let go, and enjoy, wafts the message to my nose. The tuberose is shown here from a very calm, earth-connected side. The otherwise sometimes almost shrill sedative flower has been gently sedated here, without losing her character.
Is there finally a mushroom to be found here? Well, I’m not sure. If so, I would say a hint of a chanterelle adds a delicate spiciness here. I also perceive a hint (but really no more!) of spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. It is impossible for me to really break down this warm-woody-earthy-spicy medley that underlines the fragrance into its components. There is wood and animal and earth and spice...
A scent of cozy warmth, but at the same time a mysterious depth, which is due to the tuberose and the leather, the animalic notes, and certainly also to the mushrooms that are somewhat hidden here. ;-) Towards the base, it changes again in a distinctly attractive direction. A spicy-soft-bitter, dark honey-resinous-warm woodiness develops, ultimately leading to a warm-soft-earthy-gentle and the inevitable amber-sweet at the very end.
I suspect with my expert nose that the contents of this forbidden little bottle might once again be a kind of love potion that has snowed into my house. However, more details need to be discussed here.
This fragrance certainly invites you to spend a cool autumn evening relaxed by the crackling fireplace, with a nice glass of wine. It is also well-suited for dining out, as it does not have a particularly strong sillage. It does not interfere with tasting.
Overall, I think it fits best with any kind of relaxed, pleasant togetherness. It smells interesting, but far from as quirky as one might suspect.
I found it quite wonderful right away and am glad that I was able to snag it at a much lower price than the original. Because as wonderfully many fragrances from this brand are, they are unfortunately also quite costly. I would like to say thank you again to Bescho for the
HoM-Wanderpaket, without which I wouldn’t have been able to get to know the fine fragrances of this brand so quickly!!
Some of the HoM perfumes have door-to-fairyland potential.
Just like Forbidden, for which I hereby advocate.
