A contrast of hot and cold nuances
Burning Ice comes with a nice bottle resembling the shape of a square block of ice, with light blue juice inside. Despite the aquatic tones of the juice, it's not straight summer marine fresh. It's called burning ice because of its complex development from opening to the drydown, it plays with opposite accords. As soon as it opens up its very sweet, velvety and citrus bergamot is the first note you get. It is bright but the contrast of fresh, warm, and spicy notes kind of clash together and make you wonder what type of smell you're going to get. Dashes of chic bergamot and chilled red apple join resinous mild cardamom to create a neat, exhilarating top. The cardamom adds a tip of spicy, yet it is not dominant.

But after about 15 minutes this settles down and you're left with a nice mix of patchouli and virile sea cliff accords merge with green clary sage, a bracing scent with leathery undertones. I do not get earthy patchouli, yet a modern and gentle one, and aquatic nuances that are not salty at all.

This fragrance dries down into a buttery base of vanilla, musk and golden amber that brings the heat. The base is a blend of fruity apple, mild cardamom, creamy musk, and luscious vanilla. The longer this sits on your skin the vanilla takes over and you're left with vanilla with faint traces of apple in the background. The dry-down is absolutely wonderful, sweet and calming, sexy and inviting, notably if you like sweet frags.

Not going to lie it is a little bit synthetic. I do like this scent yet there are so many scents that I would pick over this for what this type of scent does. The performance was 3-6 hours and only slightly below average projection. Recommended for daily use on springtime. For the price, you really can’t complain.

Vanilla Ice
Yes, there is unfortunately nothing to smell from burning Ice!
The top note is slightly citrusy, but immediately a vanilla scent spreads, which is faintly pronounced and the longevity is weak as well.
A fragrance that no one really needs!

Misunderstanding
Burning Ice is, in my eyes, a misunderstanding.
It wants to do everything right, does nothing really wrong but just doesn't hit the mark.

The top note is fruity and fresh. The apple, whether red or green or frozen (or a combination of these), is detectable, as is the citrus note. There’s also something slightly spicy in there.
This top note is not bad in itself, but it feels very familiar to me, even though I haven't experienced many fragrances yet. It has something trivial, something common. Not bad, but no "burner." It's certainly not a leap into icy water - as Iceberg puts it.

The heart note is fresh, bright, and slightly spicy. I smell the clary sage and a bit of patchouli. I lack a clear idea of the sea water. There might be something slightly salty in there, but I can't quite grasp it.
From the description alone, I would want to place this section in an "Aqua di.."-corner.
This doesn't quite fit with the top note for me. Overall, the heart note is not bad but doesn't really excite me.

The base note is soft and warm, with a hint of freshness and a lot of sweet vanilla. While this fits with the top note, I can't connect it with the heart note. Well, here the contrast is given, fresh, bright top and heart notes, and underneath a warm base.
So far, the impression from the paper.

On the skin, which for me means the upper body, both the top and heart notes are only briefly perceptible.
The vanilla from the base quickly comes in with a clear "Get lost, you fresh notes!" The overall impression is dominated by the amber-strong, sweet vanilla. At this point, there is no contrast left at all.

Burning Ice is often advertised at Rossmann. I think the sales are not so good, so they have to introduce this relatively new perfume to the market with discounts already. Fortunately, my investment was limited.

I've worn it a few times, but ultimately it's too vanilla-heavy, too sweet, too annoyingly warm for me.

I'm sure that those here on Parfumo who have sniffed a few dozen or more perfumes will immediately say upon smelling the top, heart, and base notes: Yes, I know it! It's like... .

It feels so washed out, without edges and corners and without a special moment.

My impression is that the developers wanted to create a perfume with three quite well-known notes that doesn't clash anywhere but is well-received due to its familiar and perhaps popular scent notes.
And that’s where the misunderstanding lies. It simply doesn't work. It becomes boring.
Additionally, and this amplifies the boredom, it’s not well crafted, as the scent development on the skin is poor. The fragrance feels one-dimensional.

Projection and longevity are okay. I can't complain about that.

So that this doesn’t come across as a total bashing:
It doesn’t smell really bad or unpleasant. And for the price, especially when on sale, you don't just get a bland alcohol-water mixture.
If you like vanilla-heavy, warm fragrances, you should give it a try. It should work well for that.
Perhaps it’s even better suited as a unisex perfume or in the women's fragrance world?
I can well imagine Burning Ice on a woman.

In my collection, it will sit for a long time, as I will only use it rarely.

Addendum from 02.12.2013:
I now occasionally wear it as a "cheap" oriental.
The base note is also well perceptible and lasting under thicker clothing.
And definitely a perfume for ladies too!
Addendum from 07.11.2014:
Rated up to 60%. After having experienced several fragrances now, I have to upgrade it. It's not that bad after all, and the price-performance ratio is top!

Despite the marine tints of the juice, it's not a summer marine fresh. It dries down into a buttery base of vanilla, musk and golden amber.

The fresh, icy scent fades quickly and makes way for a musk vanilla, which is a shame really.
