I have no words ...
Before I start choking on my thoughts generated by this tepid liquid in front of me, I better write them down.

Which scent is James Bond wearing, actually?

As a matter of fact, he needs none - the man happens to have so much testosterone overload that he naturally appeals to women and intimidates his opponents.

In the event that James Bond should be reaching for a scent, many classic English Gentleman scents come promptly to my mind: all bitter, spicy, male, and seductive.

And now we have THIS: A flat shaped bottle in smoke grey with a coarse mesh pattern similar to a pistol grip and adorned with the classic 007 logo. A little showy perhaps, but handsome and weighing nicely in the hand.

The fragrance, however, is short of great revelations: Fruity fresh notes with too much citrus, some tart green flowers and the usual modular building blocks for a spicy earthy basis, just the bare minimum because of savings. So synthetic that in its entirety the scent provides no fun and is taking its leave rather soon. Not even long enough to last through a movie house visit. And finally, its durability is unimpressive.

Now, then, which of the many James Bond actors would be able to carry off this scent?

No one! Not even Timothy Dalton which I deem the weakest of all performers. Don't even think about the veteran Sean Connery or the tough Daniel Craig.

I better hold back any opinions about which target audience this scent is aiming at ... it might lead to some controversial answers.

All I know is that for a long time already, the sale of rights linked to a name can make lots more money than the movie itself. But when one hears how successful the recent Bond movies were, including the DVD market, one wonders whether there actually was a need for this fragrance.

And if so, would there not have been better quality scents, and even an obligation to choose one of them? Because I find this unimaginative liquid rather damaging for James Bond's reputation - and come to think of it - for the perfume industry as such.

James Bond 007
I went to the drugstore recently and was "attacked" by the sales associate who was holding a tester bottle of this. The bottle itself looked tacky, gimmicky and cheap so I had no interest in trying it but she sprayed a paper strip anyway and handed it to me. I inhaled deeply and to me, it smelled just the way the bottle looked and I hadn't expected it to be any better. It smelled generic, boring, cheap, sharp, old and outdated. Smelled like many other colognes I had smelled before and hadn't liked. I told her it wasn't what I looked for in a fragrance and she backed off. I feel this scent was only done and released to coincide with the new Bond movie coming into theaters around the same time. Just a marketing ploy. The cologne isn't worth the price, nor is it worth your time or attention.

I must confess, I am anything but a James Bond fan. On the contrary. I hate the movies. My father is a big supporter of the series, and so I had to unwillingly watch some of them when I was younger. I just can't get into it. Yes, great, he jumps out of a plane and immediately goes skiing. Yeah, yeah. Wow.
So how is the olfactory interpretation of the super agent who can have any woman (except for me and my grandma, her heart beats for Winnetou)?

To keep my fragrance description from being as tedious as the films, I'll shorten it a bit:
Pffft - sweet - mushy - annoying - herbal - penetrating.

This agent doesn't do his stunts himself; he only goes to kids' gymnastics.
This agent doesn't get all the hot women in the world; he waits until a drunk one is left over, whom he then dares to approach. And even she will reject him.
This agent doesn't drink a martini; he drinks chocolate milk.
This agent doesn't drive a cool car; he has a rickety ladies' bicycle.
This agent isn't wearing a snazzy suit; it's laundry day, and he's walking around in baggy pants.

Failed.

Someone here smells like Nut***perfume...*sniff* in case of doubt, it's me...
...says James Bond in "Diamonds Are Forever" to a rat, as he was trapped in a pipe on a construction site and was supposed to be buried. But it was the scent of a certain Mr. Wint, a villain. I now believe I know what Bond thinks of overly sweet scents.
Well. Let’s give it a try, thought the Flui as he recently saw this fragrance with the James Bond logo on the shelf. I find the cuteness has been a bit overemphasized. The scent might be something for Jimmy Bond, but not for James Bond. There’s really nothing new to sniff out, but maybe Bond relies on tradition. The base is unimaginative beyond compare. The sweetness, however, is too much; I don’t know how that’s supposed to fit. The scent is also so simply constructed, so superficial. Is that supposed to suit a man like Bond, who has all the tricks up his sleeve and is soft, hard, clever, cool, and street-smart?
And since I am a huge Bond fan and have inhaled all the films and still do, I thought, which Bond does this actually suit?

SEAN CONNERY: This masculine, elegant big cat with rugged masculinity, I believe, would reject the scent in a gentlemanly manner. Something dry would suit Sean Connery, like Apicius describes so wonderfully in his comments. Nothing floral. I believe Dr. No or Goldfinger or Blofeld would laugh at Bond and ask: "Since when does MI6 rely on floral scents that fade so quickly?" Yes, and Sean Connery's fur on his chest doesn’t quite align with this floral nonsense.

GEORGE LAZENBY: This Bond made only one film and got married right away. But even then, I thought, it can’t be that he reaches for such a scent after having the wildest chases through the snow with his enemies. Bond is the epitome of the macho type, pure masculinity, and has something animalistic about him. The man doesn’t mess around and wouldn’t reach for such a scent with his charisma.

ROGER MOORE: Here I must say: Fits best. He certainly infused Bond with a bit of silliness. I would say this floral scent fits. The sweetness goes well with the outfit he wore in Octopussy. There, he defuses a bomb in clown costume at the last second. Something kitschy could fit very well there.

TIMOTHY DALTON: No way. In "A View to a Kill," Bond is too serious, profound, and thoughtful for this scent. Because the scent is rather cheap sweet and superficial without a plan or thought. Especially in "License to Kill," when Bond goes on a rampage and goes on a vendetta tour, even disregarding orders from MI6, how could he take a liking to a floral scent?

PIERCE BROSNAN: Maybe second most after Roger Moore. This Bond seems insecure in all the films. It may be that he also made a mistake with the perfume, which unfortunately cannot be sniffed through the TV. As stiff as he dances around, it could be that he wants a bit more suppleness with a linear sweet scent, like Connery has so naturally. In the end, the sweetness fades, but it becomes the most generic scent, with such a meaningless base. So that you can hardly find anything to criticize, because it’s just so disarmingly flat.

DANIEL CRAIG: Even less than Sean Connery. Craig is the type of Bond who doesn’t even care whether his martini is shaken or stirred. How could he suddenly say: Okay folks, I don’t care about the martini, but I want such a flabby sweet scent, oh yes. And how he just almost died and 5 minutes later, after quickly winning 150 million at poker, says to Vesper: "Now would be a little celebration in order," he’s supposed to smell like the most superficial scent, that’s weak, like D&G The One Sport?

Well, who knows, maybe in the new Skyfall, the bottle will fall from the sky and Bond will sniff it and say: Yea, that’s a gr8 smell. Who knows....

Bond couldn't do anything?!?
Is it an extravagant, exclusive, unique scent?
Is it an olfactory revelation with many individually discernible notes?
Is it an absolute novelty in the bazaar of fragrance creations?

Not at all!!!

Nevertheless, I find it very unfortunate that this Eau de Toilette receives such poor ratings in many reviews/comments here. I can even understand many of the criticisms directed at this scent, but (and this must always be emphasized) we are dealing here with an inexpensive designer toilet. Especially in this lower price segment, I have not encountered many fragrances that have elicited such a positive response from those around me after I applied it.
To me, it smells fruity (apple) and fresh at the beginning. Especially after a cool shower in the summer, 007 reveals its best effect. During this season and in spring, Mr. Bond accompanies the wearer excellently and provides a lovely breeze of its scent character.
Of course, the individual stages of this concoction are not perceivable in their separate elements; this area is mostly reserved for niche fragrances, which, however, operate in different price ranges.
If you keep this in mind, you might find a bit more to appreciate in this 007.

“Bond: ‘A charming hint of nothing that you’re almost wearing. I like it.’ (Diamonds Are Forever) - somehow fits this little fragrance too ;)

Good, decent fresh scent
Nice citrusy start
With lavender undertones
And a woody finish
A bit synthetic, but I like it

Unnecessary double zero with a license to bore - maybe interesting for a few Bond fans, but unsuitable for wearing.

This is where it all started! Tried a lot in the drugstore, found this one good, bought it right away. Not nearly as bad as rated here.

It's not worse than Boss or Banana etc. I think many just join the negative opinion. Suitable for everyday use!
