Elegance is not what we are after
Nondescript slightly woody scent, can't detect any leather in it.
James Bond decided to blend in with the crowd and to wear an unobtrusive scent for the masses. Probably he never read Wittgenstein, who, in his Blue and Brown Books (1958) criticises our "craving for generality". As Wittgenstein argued: "Elegance is not what we are after."
The clever producer of this fragrance took into account both the brief of the company and the target culture = recipient. The only thing that seems to interest the guys who produced "Quantum" are figures: gross-net=net in real terms.

With a License to Spray?
To get straight to the point, yes. Just barely. Just so. But let's start from the beginning...

...and with how and why I even own this fragrance. I've had it for a while - it comes from a time when I, like many (perhaps most) other perfume buyers, would go into a store, spray my fragrance of choice onto a paper strip, and evaluate the top note. My purchasing decision back then was based on: a) a pleasant top note, b) a beautiful bottle from a great brand, and c) a price reduction. At some point, the fragrance disappeared into the drawer, and by now, my taste has evolved quite a bit. I no longer buy everything, I test thoroughly, I think about it, I "disassemble" scents with my nose. And then it occurred to me, yes, there was something! I looked at the mediocre reviews in the forum and wanted to form my own opinion. So I took the pretty little bottle out of the cupboard again, and...

...tested it. And my first realization was: there isn't much to test here. And this is not a devaluation, but a factual statement. This little water is, I agree with one or two previous speakers, anything but complex. The scent progression can be summarized quite briefly: after spraying, there's a not particularly natural bergamot opening with alcoholic undertones...Mr. Bond, are we drinking on duty? Unfortunately, it becomes quite clear that this is not the quality of a designer or even niche fragrance. The intensity of the perfume is not overwhelming from the start; you really have to press down quite hard on the agent tube to create an acceptable sillage. And even then, it doesn't last particularly long. The bergamot waves goodbye after about 5-10 minutes and makes way for a rather aromatic sandalwood with very slight aquatic undertones. I personally do not perceive leather. That brings us to the end of the description; the scent lasts about three hours on the skin before it dies a gentle sandalwood death - James Bond would probably have just smiled tiredly.

And since I want to remain objective, no, this scent is not bad! It is uncomplicated, in its own way masculine, and considering the inexpensive ingredients, cheap to.... um pardon, stop. And here we come to the actual major flaw of the overall presentation. This scent is NOT cheap, quite the opposite. They have clearly saddled the horse from the tail end. The intention in this case was probably not: we create a beautiful fragrance and give it an appealing presentation. Instead, they must have said to themselves: we have the James Bond 007 brand. A perfume marketed under this brand could bring us good money, especially since we can comfortably neglect the content with such a large brand. The economic analysts must have assumed that a purchasing decision in this case is not primarily driven by the scent, but by the brand. Which man didn't want to be a little secret agent as a child? A bit of Bond flair on my skin! And the beautiful bottle in my bathroom! A little bit of 007 I am too...and hey, that's understandable! I can understand that too! From a purely economic standpoint, they maximized profit by selling an expensive brand at a high price while keeping the content as inexpensive as possible...

...what ultimately annoys me is that this presentation of the James Bond brand simply does not do it justice. They could have created a really beautiful, noble, masculine fragrance experience here. I imagine the freshness of English mint in the opening, underpinned with rugged masculinity, perhaps from oud or high-quality musk...a gallant, masculine scent, refined by a beautiful bottle made from high-quality materials. Yes, I know, the bottle is quite nice here, but when I look closer and relate it to my idea of a James Bond perfume, this scent becomes a toy.

I have just downgraded during my writing efforts. I give the scent a solid 50%. As an all-rounder for subtle masculinity, to simply smell good for a short while, it actually fits into a plain drugstore bottle for 5-10 € and is quite recommendable for buyers there. However, the presentation and the way the traditional James Bond 007 brand has fallen victim to quick money annoys me so much that I ultimately downgrade to 40%. In this case, with a deduction for label deception. Speaking of deductions - if Mr. Bond had personally seen what has been done with his good name here, he would have certainly acted swiftly. Who would have become the target in that case is left to our imagination.

Conclusion: A scent for 007 fans who would like to place a perfume of their favorite in the bathroom and value the brand over the scent experience. In that case: recommendable. Purchase for the beautiful scent: rather not, as it is too expensive for that. Those looking for a short-lived all-round scent with subtle masculinity will find cheaper options in the drugstore. A scent with a license to spray? Yes. Just barely. Just so.

Mass Product
James Bond OO7/ Quantum was delivered to me not in a mini vial or mini spray, but in a foil-wrapped aluminum package.
After cutting it open, I dripped and rubbed it on my arm, and a rather pleasant scent note unfolded.
Spicy-aromatic without citrus advances, unfortunately, the intensity is quite weak, as is the sillage and longevity.
This little water in any random bottle, given a fanciful name, could easily be found on any supermarket shelf for 3-4.-.
As with most fragrances, a brand is being built here, launched on the market with a cheap off-the-shelf product to make quick money.

007 on a Secret Mission
I love the James Bond films, and for me, every movie, every actor, and every story has its justification.

Nevertheless, I couldn't imagine any of the actors with this perfume. The rather inconspicuous mainstream fragrance doesn't fit the character of a James Bond, a sometimes ruthless guy with edges and corners. A type who doesn't care much for conventions and has his special preferences... just think of vodka martini shaken, not stirred. A James Bond should smell intense, elegant, and charismatic to me. So that he is immediately noticed when he enters the room.

I already knew that a drugstore scent would hardly meet these expectations. That's why I was more than skeptical about this line. Then I was looking for a Christmas gift for my father. He loves the 007 films just as much as I do. And celebrity fragrances don't scare him off.

My nose said: fresh, subtly spicy, and with a slight leather note... Better than expected. Not a scent for a grand entrance, but wearable as an everyday fragrance. Somehow 007 on a secret mission when he doesn't want to stand out. More Timothy Dalton than Sean Connery. Whatever. Bought.

I'm curious about my father's reaction. But the scent is so pleasing that I'm sure: it won't gather dust with him.

Quantum of Hope
Quantum of Solace is a short story by Ian Fleming from the 8th volume "In Deadly Mission."
The plot is actually unspectacular; it revolves around the relationship between man and woman and the necessary quantum of comfort that characterizes this relationship - not just between man and woman - when this, according to the narrator, is missing, then every interpersonal relationship is worthless.

Now I ventured with this knowledge and Ian Fleming to Debenhams to test Quantum once more, so I could put the 007 fragrances behind me, at least what is offered here.

Quantum uses the same bottle that Ocean and James Bond are known for. So I went with the intention of finding a small quantum in the James Bond range, and lo and behold, I found it.

Quantum is indeed one of the better fragrances from P&G on this topic, not exactly a masterpiece but at least there is a quantum of fragrance understanding present. Not a masterpiece, by any means, but also not so bad that it would be a complete flop.

According to Parfumo, the fragrance pyramid is very simple, and I think this makes sense and is certainly justified, because sometimes less is more.
At the start, bergamot came through, and honestly, it wasn't so poorly executed - well, they had time to practice. The juniper berry was not noticeable, but the sandalwood was very subtle and well blended with the bergamot.
So I took the bottle again and smelled it, wondering if I had been mistaken and if P&G distinguishes between tester and finished product?
After I perceived the perfume the same way at Boots as I did at Debenhams, Sherlock Holmes was called for, and a bit of foam was needed. It took a while to get a sample of Quantum, but it was worth it. And lo and behold, there is no difference between the tester and the retail product.
Quantum really smells the same.
After the bergamot, the sandalwood blends in, you can smell leather - not very strong - but not unpleasant. Violet can be perceived, if you really try hard, very faintly.
Of course, synthetic elements are present here too, but strangely enough, it doesn't bother me much, not at all.

Quantum is truly an acceptable fragrance that one can buy and wear with a clear conscience if one has a small budget but still wants to dive into the world of perfumes. And I think that this fragrance can also be purchased in a drugstore with a clear conscience and is a better buy than for €8 all the way down on the left.
As for longevity, Quantum is no different from Ocean or James Bond; rather, it lives up to its name and offers a quantum of longevity that fades quickly and can only be perceived very close to the body or on the scent strip.

The bottles are very well made, there is no doubt about that. They are quite clever, except for the content, but I had already mentioned that, so I was completely surprised when I tested Quantum multiple times.
Often enough I thought, "This is not P&G, no way," yet it is from them. Therefore, I find it very difficult to rate it; it would have certainly deserved a 60% if it didn't fade so quickly and if one didn't have to smell oneself so closely, so... I give it a solid 50% but with a plus. Really not badly done; I sprayed it on a test strip yesterday, and it still smells of sandalwood, respect.

The scent is fairly decent. Can be used as a daytime perfume. For this price, it's okay.

Synthetic leather, but above all synthetic. Unpleasantly intrusive.
A waste of money even at this price. My no-go.

For young beginners, it's totally fine? What you get in a gift set for Christmas when you're 14-15. Performance is rather weak. Scent progression is okay.
